You might recognise this, it's the Scirocco that was offered for free on here last year, a work mate bought it and has now fitted a new engine and gearbox as well as a new interior and wheels.

This belongs to a lad of the blue forum, he's just had it resprayed and engine done, it's mega stunning, I think it's only done something like 17000 miles from new, annoyingly i forgot to get a front photo as i got distracted.

Yay! So it wasn't blowing a gale this time? Damn my stupid work and perilous finances.

Posted

No, It was much nicer down there tonight! Got a bit nippy once the sun went in though.

Posted

It's nice to see that 'rocco done up like that after it was generously given away.

Is it wrong that , out of all those lovely cars , I want the lada?

Is it me or are the MK? Late 80s Escort estates getting prettier?

Lovely stuff, I was only reading the 7-series' thread on RR a couple of days ago, I don't much like lowering/stanced-type stuff but he's put a lot of graft and money into it and it does look fantastic, that respray can't have been cheap.  Anyone who restores a rare and unloved car like that deserves respect.

Glad to see the ex-Stanky, ex-TobyD scirocco in action again. Sadly, despite the engine being a complete monster when running, I'm not surprised he opted to swap it out. Lots and lots of £££ were spent on it (prior to my ownership) but it was too fragile to be used on the road really. 140mph was once coaxed out of it on an runway and it had more to give still, but after it developed the oil pressure problem it was only really going to end that way.

I'm glad it was loved enough to have the new engine, gearbox and interior fitted - I'm not keen on the new wheels but otherwise looks exactly as it was under my ownership. Even retaining the Gulf oil sticker!

Rather than start a new thread i thought I'd bump this old one to let you know what we have a all day meet on Ssturday at the Shipwreck pub in Shotley, we normally get over 100 cars plus turn up as many of you who have been will know, if your local and have nothing better to do then come along and see me, I'll be in the Rover.

I am pretty keen to go but will be working tomorrow.

Will it still be going on around 3 o'clock, or will everyone be gone by then?

Posted

Thats a shame, i believe there will still be a load of cars there by then, quite a few people have said that they can't make it until after 2pm. I'll probably be there until about 3 personally though as I'm out in the evening.

Ratbags. I've kind of promised Nicola a Saturday of her design because she's working Sunday.

At this rate I'll probably end up doing bloody DIY on Sunday, or something equally miserable.

Have an awesome say. One day I'll get to see that P6.

I arrived at around 3 o'clock when it was starting to die down a bit, but there was still a lot of interesting things still there, even though I was passing numerous vehicles leaving when I was on the way there, including a very nice Vauxhall Chevette saloon, Volvo Amazon (in Autoshite beige) and an NYPD spec Ford Crown Victoria.

Firstly was this very nice Cortina Crusader.

post-20228-0-83332500-1477159469_thumb.jpg

And this very early 1983 Sierra Ghia, with the 2.3 V6

And this nice Audi, from back when they made cars which exuded strength and integrity

post-20228-0-93271200-1477159688_thumb.jpg

And this Marina which was equipped with the first stick on Garfield I have seen for a long time.post-20228-0-36325900-1477159796_thumb.jpg

Also this 900 turbo was there, with the superb 3 spoke alloys you always see on these.

One of my favourite cars that were here was this utterly perfect Escort GL, which was immaculate in every way and not done up to look like an RS, which was nice for a change.

And I saw Trigger's P6, which looks amazing in the flesh.

Whenever I see one of these, I can't believe how big and imposing they are. It completely dwarfed everything that was near it.

I only managed to snap this Cresta as it went past, but it was definitely well worth a picture. You wouldn't believe that the company that used to make cars that looked this good now makes ones like the Mokka.

This really stood out too. I haven't seen a Mk3 in person for a very long time.

There were a few Capris at the show, but this late 2.8 really stood out. It was in great condition and that shade of green is, in my opinion, the best colour to have on a Mk3 Capri

This Cutlass was great though. The interior looked like you could sleep in it for a few nights and not mind as it looked so comfortable.

I've never seen a DAF before, but have to say that after seeing one I am intrigued by them. I liked this a great deal.

There were also quite a few P4s, which surprised me a lot.

post-20228-0-10788100-1477161930_thumb.jpg

And finally, this Jaguar XJ with a superb red leather interior, which I unfortunately didn't get to snap a picture of.post-20228-0-73826900-1477162357_thumb.jpgpost-20228-0-04476300-1477162590_thumb.jpg

Overall I enjoyed it, but wish I could have made it a bit earlier on in the day.

Posted

Wish I could have made it - looks like it was an impressive turnout.  Love the little blue DAF and the PA Cresta - Trigger_Jnr looks impressed too.  Not a fan of the silly big wheels on the Series III though.

Great pics and some really nice cars there too.

The mk2 Escort is just perfect, exactly how one should look! It's so nice to see one, especially a two door left standard.

Oof. There's some nice stuff at those meets you run Mr Trigster.

I'm thinking impure thoughts about that Sierra, although personally I'd want it on some of these:

Frustratingly I was only about 1/2 a mile from this at 16:30 or so - but the Stour was in the way. We were in Harwich.

I've seen that Sierra estate at a previous meet. That would have been right at the top of the Sierra price list at that point. Must have been pretty much XR4i money, if not more.

Mk1 RS 1600 escorts allways had round headlights & I think we're introduced on a J plate.

Lotus twincam mk1 had rectangular lights.

You're right there - XR4i £9170, 2.3 Ghia estate £9396 (at June 1983)

Sorry I missed you Brodders!, (I've been out all night so only just caught up with this thread), I am in fact in one of your photos buying brochures from the boot of that Scimitar! It was a really good turn out,. god know how many cars we had but there must have been well over 100 coming and going all day. I'll upload a few photos that I took in a bit.

The car came with those trims but my mate removed them, he got a set of Citroen Picasso steels for it that he shipped over from France, I don't like them personally.

Didn't some of the early Sierras have colour tinted plastic bumpers? It looks like that one has them in a brownish colour instead of the standard grey.
