sierraman Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 The paint underneath is has been brush painted on so after I remove the black I'll need to try thinners on the white. I think the wins and bonnet have been replaced and were originally red. I think I will probably end up respraying it in the spring when it starts to get a bit warmer.I managed to get the original exhaust welded back onto the car which has made the overall driving experience much more bearable, I also filled the tank with diesel which seemed to quieten down the sound of the engine, I think someone might have tried running it on veg before me.That car has got red diesel written all over it.

greengartside Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Looking good! That replacement numberplate is pretty cool too, ironically better then the original which was pointlessly taken off it.It’s also a Preston registration ‘CW’ - which was the same as what was on there originally - ‘FR’! Kinda looks like a cow Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk Yep... perhaps the paint job could be remodelled to make it look more like one? The brush paint would add the right kind of texture, too! somewhatfoolish Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Tried a pressure washer which didn't do much towards removing it although after the paint got wet it was easier to peel off.Maybe try a steam cleaner if you can get a go of one; they can shift well attached things if used irresponsibly so got to be worth a go?
sierraman Posted January 11, 2019 Posted January 11, 2019 Some sort of solvent will soften it enough to get it off.

The brat is literally over the hill from my house. A lift from the train station if you've room for two passengers would be cool! I'll be arriving in Durham around 1030am but if you're tied up I'll get a taxi etc.

Presumably It's now down asNon transferable on the V5, otherwise you could offer it to the bloke who sold you it for $$$$.

DodgyBastard Posted January 12, 2019 Author Posted January 12, 2019 The last digits on the old plate were rfr, I think he thought he could sell it to a roofing company or something, I think he'll be hanging onto it for a good while. Jim Bell Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Sorry I couldn't help out this morning man. As it turns out I'm not too grand anyway this morn so probs would have called off sick anyway. Brat looks amazing!
DodgyBastard Posted January 12, 2019 Author Posted January 12, 2019 Stopped off at Bavarian Retro on the way back home, the big 6 cylinder Mercedes is now tucked up inside drying out, I have no regrets about selling it. Jim Bell Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 That really does look MEGA. I thought these were all ridiculous money these days. Love the multicoloured panels. And everything else!
Zelandeth Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Now that needs a proper onboard driving video done, preferably with good audio. Assume these used the same engines as the estates Subaru were selling around the same time? If so they should sound absolutely epic between the engine and gearbox whine in the lower gears. I was well dissapointed the first time I took an Impreza out and it had been smoothed out so much compared to the old 1.8DL that out neighbour used to have.
Lacquer Peel Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 They do sound great. You can adjust (up and down) the torsion bar suspension front and back with a ratchet by the way. Mr_Bo11ox, DodgyBastard and Sheefag 3

Lacquer Peel Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 It's a bloody 284, not a BRAT. Pedantry over, 284 isn't exactly a catchy model name. DodgyBastard and Sheefag 2
jonathan_dyane Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Shame I’m fairly sure I wouldn’t fit into one of these; I think they’re great.
dome Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Yas. Love these. Local farmers to me in SW Scotland were all over these when I was a lad. Good to see a survivor DodgyBastard 1
LessThanEqual Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Bit late and probably not much use to you, there is a red Sierra estate in Windleys, Tattershall if you're desperate for bits. 1.6 IIRC. DodgyBastard 1
Joey spud Posted January 12, 2019 Posted January 12, 2019 Well bought that man. It's good to see another Brat/Brumby/MV284 on here. This is my one that I have owned for six years and spent way too much time and money on. They are a happy, willing little truck and men of a certain age will often come over and chat about once having a Tamiya remote controled one as a kid. My one has a cherry bomb rear box fitted for a more fruity burble. Alas it is currently sorned as she needs some galloping rot on the sills attending to and the oil burning knocking engine swapping for a nice fresh one I have sitting up the shed.
