If you don't swap for the sierra, some specs on the Hyandry would be nice. Much interest in a roffle from Chichester in that there Sussexshire in Englandland.

They're fantastic, is it welded to the proton? Did you photoshop out the steel support?

I welded a small section of square bar onto the towing eye then slotted a smaller tube of square bar inside so I can easily remove it.

I edited out the pole, here's one without editing.

I have absolutely no idea what you're trying to ask/tell me. Could you try again in English please?

Thanks.

"Could you let me know the basic spec of the Hyundai, please? If you don't end up swapping it for the Sierra, I'd love to buy some raffle tickets for it despite the fact I live about as far away from you as is possible"

That first shot of the Proton is great, looks like a late '80s CAR magazine feature shot

I'll have a ticket if you roffle it.

Sorry, has had scotch this evening

I would be careful if there is any knock that isn't the usual diesel noise, the only time ours knocked was when one broke a ring and it came out through the top of the piston, another came to use knocking and it had smeared most of a piston down the bore due to overheating. Still ran fine until being pulled apart.

TLDR we ran these engines, they didn't used to knock unless bollox'd

Here it is!

It really is as bad as it looks, I don't think the engines is actually knocking, it just sounds (loud) like any other ancient diesel I've driven whether that be the Tata, R18 or a smiley Transit with banana engine.

The bodywork doesn't look too bad underneath the matte black but there are a couple of areas that have been fixed by riveting metal over the rust instead of welding it.

The headlights don't work and the battery is knackered.

I did a straight swap with the Hyundai which I bought for £200 so essentially that's what the Sierra owes me and I'm quite happy with that.

Ooooofffff Indenor!!! Brilliant. Will the matt black clean off with a bit of thinners???

It would be ideal for a low budget remake of Mad Max! :-)

Potentially swapping the Hyundai for this on Monday, it looks grim but I'm looking forward to improving it.

Amen. What's the plans for this one then?

Posted

Wow, was it hearing aid beige? I've never seen a Sierra in such a miserable shade before. I will grudgingly admit these things drive pretty well although I imagine the mighty Indenor saps a lot of joy from the experience. 10/10, fully approved

Those old Sierras are starting to be worth a few bob. If you can spray it’s probably well worth tidying it up, even if you hand painted it with some good brushes it’d look 10 times better and wouldn’t cost a lot. Not sure on your luck getting another back bumper, unless you can tape it that’s a test fail.

I don’t know what’s gone off with the Matt black, it looks awful, stuff like where they’ve got it all over the lights is annoying. The previous owner must have been extremely dense.

Annoyingly he is correct. If you made this one vaguely tidy it could produce a decent return

It was white previously but someone has brush painted the engine bay in beige

I’m not one for putting stuff in a white show room etc but 3-4 tins of ALDI Direct to Metal white paint would look tonnes better if you did it properly with some decent brushes. Then try getting the black crap off the lenses and trim. Sills look a bit patchy so get them solid then a thick coat of shutz and paint them black. Then claim ‘old skool Ford tax’ and whack it on for a massive profit.

Who has time for all that though?  Just leave it as is and use it.

That has to be the worst paint job I have ever seen. Even worse than the brush painted brown Metro I had where the paint peeled off everywhere.

You must have missed some of my previous efforts if that's the worst you've seen!

In the rain it'll look shiny, so another one for Leave As Is.

Not to mention how great it'll look in the dark.

Wonder if that would come off with a scrub and steam clean?

Was it being prepped for some end of the world rally with the spare wheels and lots of lights?

Check the rear chassis rails for cracks, ours went after lots of towing.

That looks like what the warlord king of the estate will drive post brexit.

The wee Skoda is still going fine.

I picked up a nearly new set of winter tyres yesterday fitted to some 6n Polo steels, I fitted them to the car only to find that one of them was seriously bent and was fouling on the track rod end so took them all back off and swapped a pair of the winter tyres onto the original Skoda wheels. The other pair of tyres I'm going to put on the front of the Proton.

The Skoda's mot is due in February, it's really quite grown on me over the last month so no doubt I'll spend time/money on it come mot time and keep it for a while longer.

Looks like a good swap for the Hyundai . I thought these all had the 1.8td at this age.?

Could the knocking be diesel knock from the injector timing being off?
