New Uniroyals probably cheaper than used tyres.

With the Euro rate at a good price these are even cheaper I paid £113 for two Hankook Evo 225/45/17 for the Saab a few months back. I was sick of having the ditch finders on the front so bought two more and they was £103 this time.

I forget who asked the question now, but a quick flick back through the thread shows that getting a tyre fitted by your local indies is going to cost you, on average, a tenner.

These have been great tyres through the wet winter and grip best when its slimy - neither wet nor dry. Seemed to wear a bit quickly, though - if a tyre grips harder then perhaps it's used harder. Great for the money.

Mine have been gr9 too! Agree about the wear, the fronts are about half worn. will swap them to the back in the spring

I'm rocking a set of Jinyu's on my ZS at the moment and they're surprisingly grippy, even in the wet.

The Chinese stuff seems to be a total lottery - I had land sails before and they were desperately bad. The Jinyus however I've got no beef with as yet, although I'm only a couple of months in.

My Dad had Jinyus on his Bravo that I expected to be laughably bad, they're mega low profile (19"?) and wide wheels but he never had any problems in snow or ice. They just wore out eventually so were replaced.

I drove a customers 2.0hdi berlingo ( so hardly a powerhouse) that had maxxis tyres fitted and had a job to pull away in the wet without spinning . They had plenty of tread but just had no grip at all . I thought they may have been over inflated but when it had a service I found them on 20psi .

They would be bloody lethal if you had to stop in a hurry .

Let us know what you both think, had T1R's on my W124 Merc and they stuck like the proverbial to a bloody blanket

Well she is more than happy with the grip they offer, I have experienced a country road at speed on boost with very little use of the brakes, its grip was phenomenal they are decent in the wet as well

The Nexens fitted to the 'F were unspeakably shit and made it understeer even more than normal - and that's saying something.

Try an 800 on Nexens. You could only have less grip if you covered your wheels in KY jelly. It's just stung me for a grand on the MoT so the fucking things will have to stay there for another month.

I bought a ST170 focus a while back and when looking it over noticed one on the fronts had a gash in the sidewall, dealer fitted a Nexen and wouldn't budge on matching the other 3 tyres which were continentals. I was Max's out for cash at the time so was to tight to bang him any cash and got a good price on the car so didn't grumble, front left Nexen... Turning right was a lottery compared to turning right, really couldn't believe how cack they were, never again so always stuck to proper brands since, except on our Terios which has Ovation tyres. Got 4 on a deal and have been ok but not driven hard and only used for dog walking and dumping garden rubbish, not exactly a comparison for R888's on my Capri.

Never understood why the Terios had 1999 tyres on it when it's a 2002 reg, the old Bridgestones lasted until 2014 though :-)

Daughters!!!

She's came round to have dinner with us today, Civic daughter that is, those new Uniroyals fitted to it just before winter are down to about 4mm, she drives like the devil himself is after her.

Up to a point thats OK on 195/65 x 15's @ less than £40 each for decent stuff.

Just about to order 4 Vredestein Sportrac 5's, apparently the Uniroyals have been prone to wheelspinning in the wet @ 6 x G's...where's the double face palm smiley when you need it.

However she takes delivery of her new Civic type R in April, effin tyres are supposedly £250 each on that, WCPGW.

Jesus - seriously? I've got Uniroyals in exactly the same size on my 406, fitted last summer, done 5000 miles, fronts 7mm, rears 8mm and I don't hang about (or maybe I do compared to your daughter!).

Michelins are pretty loud in my experience - when Old Man was running Bini wheels on his Civic instead of the standard wheels with Dunlop SP Sports, the car was about twice as loud just about everywhere until we put the 14"s back on.

I had to swap my uniroyals round after 9 months and 20k. The fronts werent bald, but I swapped them before they were too far gone.

Their amazing tyres, in heavy rain their bloody ace, but I might try something different when the time comes, maybe something with a stiffer sidewall

just put michelins on my 318 and they are so much quieter than the continentals they replaced. Pretty much zero road noise, the other half commented on how she hear the climate switching in and off last week.

The Falken all weathers that are fitted to Mrs Wombles EV2 C8 are doing OK wear wise, a little noisy compared with the Mitchys that came off but grip dry and wet is OK.

Far cheaper than the Mitchys that came off to replace as well.

Might get some for the Almera.

Daughter came round in the new typeR last week, sod me its a bit of a beasty, i wouldn't want one but her money her choice.

No spare wheel, pot of goo and a toy pump, what a load o' bollocks,  i'm going to find out if there's a spacesaver that fits...no way would it ever fit over the front discs though, those 19" wheels only just clear the calipers as it is, looks fairly normal at the arse end though so i'll try and borrow one from another Civic and see if it fits, if she gets a flat without a spare on the road they'll sting her for £300+ without a doubt.

Tyres are 235/35 x 19 Conti 6's, eff me £220ish even from t'internet, however lots of other Contis plus other good makes from around £140 apiece, below that and you're into unknowns which won't be going on, WCPGW with feeding 300+ hp through the front wheels on ditchfinders.

I've now got Dunlop Sport Blue Responses on the 800, and they seem very good. Very good in the wet and standing water. They feel nice through the steering wheel as well. £180 for all four - not bad.

Have these on my Leon - agree they are fantastic at dealing with standing water. Quiet too.

My only tiny concern is they are nice and soft which means they probably won't last too well, but surely the point of tyres is to be soft and grippy?

Yes if they can be bought for sensible prices i'd rather get 15k of sure footed grip than 30k of crapping mesen on bad surfaces.

The worse tyres i ever had were Michelin ZX's which were on a Ventora i bought aged 20, they had no wet grip to speak of, four wheel steering standard, slung them a put a set of the then new Goodyear Unisteels on and it was different car completely, i was used to Michelins being shit in the wet anyway, that 7.5 tonner D series i drove aged 19/20 was on Mich's, Jesus wept it was terrifying, never had so many slides in the wet before or since...don't ever want to go there again.

Tyreleader was twice the price of Blackcircles.

Toyo Proxes inbound I think!

maybe go up a notch on the load rating- eg civic is 91 as std but 94 are listed as xtra load alternative

Most unusual, but if they're a bargain and what you want buy 'em quick before BC spot what is possibly an error and correct it.

I've bought obvious mistakes before now, usually from the German online suppliers, the mistake i suspect was putting the euro price in ££'s, they've always honoured the sale though but by next day its been fixed.

Getting 4 Rainsport 3s fitted on my Ibiza on Thursday morning, paid £65 a corner fitted which is the cheapest I managed to find around here. They're replacing two only-just-legal Landsails on the front, with bad alignment wear on the insides, and on the back a Zeta and almost new Infinity. Can't wait to finally have some traction.

I've noticed that Halfords Autocentres have been very competitive lately on tyre prices, it could be worth a look first.
