The car you've always promised yourself (not necessarily a Capri)

Jensen Interceptor FF,

Would probably be a disappointment as I've wanted one since the age of 7 and have never sat in one, let alone driven one so my expectations would be unrealistic and some dreams are better unfulfilled.

Chances of ownership probably similar to being eaten alive by whelks on Shrove Tuesday

We have one in at the moment. Not an FF just a normal one but its lovely. red leather and the exhaust note is orgasmic.

One car I dream about for almost 15 years now and that I will own one day is this:

An early 1990s Buick Park Avenue

It´s not expensive (good ones ~ 5000€ here), but I was never brave enough to buy a yankee-car. But someday I will.

The one I want above all others is a '58 Edsel convertible.

Zero probability of getting one.

My Allegro is a worthy substitute.

Can't you tie a toilet seat to the grille and pretend?

I was reading about the Edsel earlier, designed by the same bods as the Lincoln Futura apprently (Na-na na-na na-na na-na) and named after Henry Ford's son.

The cars I have promised myself are all cheap and obtainable.  I'm a realist I suppose, and easily pleased.

I will have sooner rather than later:

Peugeot 405 Dweezil turbot saloon.

Nissan hut Primera GT.

Something with a supercharged A-series in it. Ideally a Meastro or something equally unasuming.

It was the V8 burble that first drew me to Jensens back in 1979,

I was out with my Mum one Saturday and this blue car that looked like nothing I had ever seen before growled past us slowly, the noise made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and from that day on an old school V8 never fails to send shivers down my spine.

Now if you will excuse me I'm off upstairs with British supercars of the 1970's and the Freemans catalogue circa 1988.

The designer was a guy named Roy Brown. He was unfairly blamed for the car's epic failure and sent away from Detroit pretty much in disgrace to the UK, where he went on to design the mk1 cortina.

I like them. Behind that grille-that-looks-like-a-fanny it's all pretty standard RWD body on frame Detroit fare, but grille aside its quite a restrained design for the late 50s compared to something like a 58 Buick or Plymouth.

I'd not be rich for long.......

Pah! All this talk of vulgar yank stuff and opulent luxobarges.

I've been promising myself a Range Rover for the last 3 years but the only ones I can afford are shit and I'd rather not have one at all than a bad one.

So, in a supremely considered and intelligent way I've decided I need a Chevrolet Suburban . Just think of it as a 110 Station Wagon for Fat Bastards. Loads of seats, tow anything it'd be stupid not to have one.

Unfortunately management has decreed a holiday and sorting some existing shite should come before a 20' long pice of rusting chintz, but before the end of the year I could be smoking cigars and listening to Alabama 3.

The car I always promised myself is a Facel Vega Excellence. Chances of getting one are nil and I've tried it in earnest for the better part of a quarter century.

Apart from that, I lately developed hankerings for a Ford Model T, a Renault 16 and a Bentley Mulsanne Turbo.

De Tomaso Pantera GTS, although I wouldn't say no to a Longchamp.

Most other stuff I liked was easily obtainable and I've had/still got. VW Scirocco was the main one along with Lancia Beta HPE and a Saab 900 T16s.

If i sold all unneeded organs plus the house, and took out a mortgage it has to be a 68/9 Dodge Charger 440.

The noise.oh god, the noise!

R32 GTR Skyline.

Somewhat of a childhood hero and the one that was always on my old man's to-do list, feel like I need to tick that box.

look at that muddy funster, 18 & 1/2 foot of chrome and bad taste, drinks more than a darts champion, handles like a blancmange and has the turning circle of the Bismark. I would trade my 'nads for a shiny black one with a red leather interior.

In reality.... If I got my Galaxie to a decent level of paint & trim, then found an easily-pleased buyer, I could probably stretch to a tatty one. And that would do me.

Citroen Ami 6. I've always been pretty realistic. While I have long admired the Ferrari 288GTO, I was the only one at school who wanted a V8 Land Rover and a Citroen 2CV. Only one of those proved not to be a disappointment mind you...

I wasn't really all that aware of the Ami 6 before I got into 2CVing but by 'eck I simply must own one! Not until I've got the 2CV fixed up though.

You might want to give the back of that one a scrub out.

Porsche 911

I was brought up to think that engines should be at the back and be directly cooled with air and a 911 addresses most of the things I don't like about Beetles.

There was a short time when a 911 could be had with simple suspension, air cooled engine and automatic transmission, around 1989. In a good bright colour please, with no sunroof, and Pascha upholstery.

And a Jeep Wrangler for winter.

Would that be a 964? I used to want one of those until I saw the pedal arrangement, I hate offset pedals, and they are very offset in a 964.

Another vote for a nissan skyline GTR R32 here. In the last few weeks I've come to realise that the money I've been saving up for a new kitchen and engagement ring for the Mrs will actually be going on one of these. Thing about money is you can always make more. Nissan will never make more R32 GTRs

Gordon Keeble; any car with a tortoise logo makes sense.

I've always wanted a Rolls Royce or a Bentley. I have owned a couple but only ever for a couple of days while a deal went through - bought to make a profit.

I really want a Bentley Turbo RT. Last of the line and 400 odd bhp, got to be in Wildberry with a cream interior. But I want low miles, full history and mint. Rare as rocking horse shit.

I've seen a few now and they are all ... crap! It seems that too many people buy them then don't maintain them like they should - purchase price is the cheap bit!

So started looking at RRs instead. But I want a rev counter and they don't fit them in RRs. But they seem to be better looked after than the Bentleys, so who knows...

Also want a Hesketh V1000. Nearly bought one a few years ago when they were 8 thou ish, but they are now approaching 20 - 30 range!

In the zero likelihood stakes it has to be a Jensen Interceptor, preferably in this blue with that interior. It's been my all time favourite since I were a kid and I'm in awe of the things. My MoT place had one in last week in Jason King yellow and i just stood and stared at it for ages, the rear 3/4 view in particular is just bloody gorgeous. I'd like to think they are a bit shit in some respects, such as BL parts bin switchgear or whatever, just to add a slice of shite to the experience.

The only other exotica that I'm bothered by is the Aston Martin DBS, and for sheer mentalness the ultimate wedge, the AM Lagonda.

Real world want is a phase 1 Renault 25 GTX automatic, and an early Rover SD1. I REALLY want an SD1 this year, even if it means buying a slightly ropey one just so I've done it. The 25 will probably involve a trip Frogland via Leboncoin, so I need to get off my arse and 'do a Mr Bickle' at some point.

An E-type is the dream, but never gonna be that rich!

I've also always wanted a Reliant Robin... Grew up with one as the family car. Mrs B not that keen, but one day I'll have one!
