What's the worstest car you've ever owned

One car per post with all the gory details please. The results will properly determine the worst car in the world ever and will be much better than those rubbish books endlessly poking fun at the ADO67's steering arrangements. I once owned an Allegro with a square wheel, I doubt whether the 'crap-car book' authors did.

Repeat from before the hacking twat screwed things up.

1990 H reg Ford Orion 1.4GLX (mk5 Escort shape) Total shit heap. Electrics worked only when they felt like it, carb was fucked, engine would cut out and refuse to restart at random but would do it on every trip, usually at roundabouts or traffic lights at the worst possible moment.

To be fair it was probably more down to previous owners abuse and lack of care that made it a pile of crap than the car itself.

I couldn't give it away, so sent it for scrap. Then a while later was surprised to see it parked outside some shops.

The new owner thought I was trying to steal it as I was taking so much interest in it! When I told him it used to be mine and I'd sent it for scrap he said it was a piece of shit and offered it back to me. I declined!

It's definitely dead now though.

Still that brand new Renault Scenic. Riddled with mechanical and electrical defects and given back after a year as unfit for purpose after it spent more time at the dealer than on our drive. I will never buy a Renault again.

A mk4 golf, every day a new problem with it. Moved it on after 6 months.

Oh god I'm not writing all that again. 2004 Toyota RAV4 (did you know RAV stands for Recreational Action Vehicle and not Rancid Antelope Vomit?) LBW 2.0 vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvti. It's shit.

I said pre hack 'Lotus' and I stand by that.... but it made me think.

I bought an XJS in 1989 it was three months old and looked lovely (one of my more affluent periods) and that, as a new car, was the worst piece of shit on the planet!  It failed to proceed on a regular basis and electrical problems with it were constant. Alternator, starter motor, central locking, full electrical shut down, got recalled for a fault with the cruise control and it never worked again, rear brakes cooked and caught fire to the oil in the diff...

It just went on and on.

It was also dog slow and drank like a piss head after a curry.

Got returned to the dealer after an epic fight with them. I hated that car and the dealer!

A 1986 Ford Sierra 2.0is D985TFT,made using Fords best quality 80's steel held together by poor paint and hope the wing tops looked like a cadbury's Areo. The rear crankshaft oilseal pissed oil,the alternator didn't alternate it constantly ran out of electricity. It was only 5ish years old when i got it.

Had to push the JU250 on this time as it wouldn't start again. Some advanced ideas like flat floor cab (underfloor engine) but launched using rear bodywork from its 1950's predecessor. Cable gear shift much longer and worse than early Maxi.  I got a Transit after enduring this horror for a few months.

^^^Those JU 250s, some people called them "kennex", I have always wondered why, and fancied a go in one.

Oh and the worstest car? A Volvo 145, but only 'cause it was completely fucked, worn out, broken and rotten. Bought with aspirational optimism.

Served me right.

Not long afterwards I bought a Lancia Gamma. Oh God.

2012 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4T "Black Edition"

Bought to replace a bullet proof '08 Toyota Yaris because I wanted to go fast. Hated it, steering was bad, ride was bad, it weighed a million tons, impossible to see out of, insipid to drive and it depreciated like nothing else out there. Oh, it also attracted vandalism which devalued it even more and the OEM tyres were £120 each vs £48 each for the Triumphs.

I sold it at a vast loss by borrowing money from my parents on the agreement that if I was free of finance payments I could actually move the fuck out of their house at 23 years old...

Ford Focus. On paper, great spec with touchscreen nav, electric everything, cruise etc. On paper.

Once those fuckers go wrong, they're never right.

Why would you buy a Corsa on tick if you wanted to go fast? Why were you surprised tyres for it cost more than £48? They're far larger and wider, for a start, plus nothing on a modern car is cheap.

Lucky escape, anyway.

Worst car I've owned was a Rover 827 SLi automatic. Every time I drove it I wish I'd walked instead. Hateful thing with no redeeming features. Nasty inside and out with shit ride quality and less available torque than a 1.0 Corsa with a couple of plug leads off.

still maintain that without doubt the very worsed car i've ever owned was a mark 1 golf gti.

rotten to the core, no 2nd or 4th gears and the interior smelt like something had died in it.

i bought it blind, the one an only time that i've trusted someone elses opinion as to what a nice car looks like.

a friend wanted to swap the tail gate off of it for his, while i was stood up in the back the floor parted company with the back panel, i sold it on to said mate at a considrable loss, and he eventually striped it and wieghed it in. the coup de grace was when he took the driver side windscreen trim off only to find that the bottom of the a-post was made up mainly of rust and air.

hatefull thing, and utter crap.

and yes, i do know that a nice one is very nice indeed. the one i had for 6 weeks was shit.

Land Rover Discovery 3.

Awesome vehicle.

Usual LR build "quality". Lots of niggling faults, few of which were covered under the LR used car "warranty", which Stratstone Darlington had initially "forgotten" to register. I did get a new heated screen on the warranty though.

Binned after the electronic handbrake stuck on in Monday morning rush hour traffic in Bradford.

1974 Land Rover Series III 88.  Handled like a shopping trolley, slow, thirsty, noisy, kept breaking down on a regular basis including one memorable trip where the brakes failed with 20 miles to go.  Engine got knackered somehow (never knew how) and had to be trailered away by the local Land Rover specialist.

Lada riva. No redeeming features at all. It was one of the last cat strangled ones and had No power, no handling, no economy, with steering set in concrete and ludicrous free play at the wheel at anything over 60mph. I'd still have another though in preference to the C reg fiesta 1.1 popular plus I briefly owned. At least you expect the lada to be shit, fords massive selling fester led me to expect more. Ghastly bean tin of a thing with not even decent economy to compensate for its penny pinching misery. I straight swapped it after 6 weeks for a fucked, but still better, sd1 2000.

That boot spoiler was off a renault 19 or 21. It fitted perfectly like it was meant to be there, even the same colour.

Well as the Megane 2 dci is just so shite it would win this thread hands down I won't count it. Second worst car had to be the Chrysler Le Baron. Bought blind off ebay and what a heap of shite. The only car I have ever known to seize it's front shock absorbers. It also needed an ecu for the power house turbo engine. I spent a fortune on it getting it right hoping that one day it would be a nice drive. No such luck it was just horrid and sold on at a bigger than usual loss.

If I have to pick worstest... I've never hated any of my cars, but the Panda Selecta was the roughest, I picked it up in winter and I drove it home which was about 130 miles away, with no heat from the heater, the cold worked fine and was on at all times. The cassette radio had no FM reception, no window winder, sunroof bodged with thin plastic. I had to drive home with my hoody up. Oh and it smelt of petrol at all times.

But it was fun to drive, plus the Selectas are pretty nippy.

My Chevette.

A mate had crash repaired it, and the body work was generally quite well done, but the rebuilt engine was anything but. Over my short tenure it needed a decoke, new big ends, radiator, carb, clutch, alternator, starter motor and battery (eventually all electrical faults were traced to a loose earth strap, missed by two garages, Hometune, and the AA. The prop went out of balance, steering developed a huge amount of play necessitating a replacement rack, someone tried to nick it buggering up the passenger door and it developed an appetite for knives in the tyres - still to this day have no idea which neighbour took exception to it.

Eventually sold it back to my mate for £50 after it failed its MOT spectacularly on structural rot - he hadn't painted any of his welds so they had rotted through - and it lived at the bottom of his garden until someone firebombed it. I wasn't too disappointed.....

Looks like the hacker stole my original post. Wish he'd stolen the Golf Gti that was its subject matter. Hateful thing.

Smart ForTwo Passion, or something like that. Full service history with Mercedes, one owner from new, low mileage. On paper it should have been ace. It wasn't. More gearbox woes than anything else I have ever owned, useless Mercedes dealers (Loughton). Shite ride, didn't appear to have any shock absorbers, just scaffolding pole cut offs. No wonder my back is fucked. Roundabout fear was the norm. 'Shall I respond when he presses the accelerator? Nah, let him shit himself until I decide to go....... ha ha ha'.

Shit, shit, shit and shit. It was even more shitthat the red Mk3 Escrote I bought that set fire to itself when 5 mins from home.

Shit.

I had the misfortune of being a passenger in a 2008 one. The passenger footwell is about a foot shorter than the drivers side. I assume something is buried under there. You chew your kneecaps for the whole journey.

Probably the 2009 Clio I have now, first registered 30/09/2009, in July 2013 (not even 4 years old) the heater stopped working on speed 2, turns out the resistor had failed and melts the wiring loom, then a month later the wiper linkage seized up and needed replaced, its clunked at the front from the day I got it (when it was 2 years and 6 months old with 17,000 miles) and its been checked by countless garages who confirm thry can hear/feel it but nothing is worn, loose, perished or needing replaced. Tracking constantly out, it has had the tracking done 7 times in 3 years but the slightest thing throws it out, the interior is full of rattles (I'm anal and I like a car if you turn the heater and radio off and its got no mechanical faults then all you can hear is the engine running but this the trim rattles all over) and the steering is all light, floaty and lifeless and the 1.2 engine is gutless, totally devoid of power but still not cheap to run, £130 a year tax and only returns 34-35mpg and has done for the past 37,000 miles I've had it (trip computer reset every time I fuel up) which is worse than my vastly more powerful 1.8 petrol Astra previous car, the radio is shit also, most cars the stereo is perfectly audible at vol 5, in this car it got to be at 12 or above to be audible. Auto wipers are rubbish and come on when not needed smearing salt up your nice clean screen.

Citroen CX with not a narrow margin. What a hateful death trap. I just didn't believe how bad a car can possibly be, so I bought a second one - new.

Which turned out to be one of the most expensive mistakes I ever made and I made a lot of expensive mistakes in my life, lemme tellyas.

There is absolutely nothing whatsoever good to say about them and that includes the abysmally uncomfortable suspension and the seats made from shit.

No wonder they were state limos in the DDR.

Actually it was a very nice area of Romford! I have lived in far worse places.
