Make the most of this chaps, it is absolutely worth the effort.

A shitefest here involves the max of 4 people, 2 of whom are working so can't come,1 who lives a very long way away and 1 lonely old fat man who sleeps in a car in the middle of a field, next to a sign that says shite

That reminds me, shall I bring the SF14 sign cunningly disguised as a front door off a BX?

in a perfect world, we would chip in for a '93 plate BMW 518 auto, rip out the interior, fill it with charcoal and put a grill where the sunroof used to be.

Not before we got the rear shocks off it;)

This year I will definitely NOT bring some homemade AS themed bread, then forget about it and find it a few weeks later whilst in France in the bottom of my rucksack covered in mould.

Also, as per last year, I have an almost new tent that anyone is welcome to have if needed. This is on the proviso that whoever takes it, keeps it.

And if anyone likes exploring the countryside, I can't recommend the walks around Devils Bridge highly enough. GR9 for hangover clearance.

I'm very interested in the tent bucketteer. Willing to pay too if you don't want or need it. More comfy than a punto and be better for jollys up derbyshire dales afterwards

Yes.

For optimal clarity and relevance, the number must be changed.  To anything  :)

Any news on a convoy passing through my way yet?

Too early, try a week or so before the event.

No need for cash monies. Get me a drink and it's yours.

Has anyone organised Barefoot's tea for Friday night? I'm starting to get worried for him now.

Posted

I ain't a clue what I'm munching Friday either. Or Saturday or Sunday come to think of it. Think a cool box, disposable bbq and some sausage, bacon and burgers! Last time I went to Wales I didn't see any supermarkets, fast food or even takeaway joints! That was in tal y bont though. I did get a pizza from a mobile trailer in a pub car park though!

Including takeaways, Tripadvisor reckons there's 54 places to eat in Llangollen, so very much at the touristy end of North Wales.

So if a barbecue is ruled out due to the weather, there's plenty of choice! Pretty sure it's already been mentioned, but there's a CoOp, a Londis-type shopattached to a petrol station if you don't bring any food with you.

I'm all over it, mate. Just as long as he likes dead animals washed down with cider.

Can't remember if I've mentioned it, but Saturday dinner is likely to take the from of a carvery as it's a relatively easy way to feed a large group in one sitting. If anyone who wants Sat night food DOESN'T fancy that, please let me know. I'm sure there will be at least one veggy option.

Gents, because I had a meeting nearby in Oswestry this morning, I undertook some cross-border reconnaissance.  I have been able to confirm that Llangollen has roads and buildings, some of which serve beer and food.  The motor museum is definitely there.

We popped along to the museum today and had a chat with owners, plus checked out the field for size. It's approached by crossing the canal and the town is walking distance along the towpath.

I reckon we'll be fine with numbers as they are - if massively more people sign up then some may have to book elsewhere. But there's always the car park for those who are sleeping in cars...

Great reconnaisance pics, looks like a perfect venue on all counts!

Edit- the company vehicle fleet confirms their shite credentials

Posted

Looks good Mat, 2 months and counting, I'm really looking forward to this.

Posted

They've even helpfully left a car transporter trailer there so we can winch the Renault van on and steal it.

Posted

Nice! Looks lovely. Will leave the car in gear though if I Park down by that slope...

Posted

I'm a soft southern ponce so have booked a B&B 10 miles away for Friday night. It's also a strategic decision to stop me getting heavily drunk on Friday night and ruining Saturday!

Nice one Mat. This appears a perfect venue. It does seem a lot of 'Shiters have an aversion to camping, so I reckon that'll be space a-plenty. Really looking forward to this. Am currently testing the venue for Saturday night. Well, I'm at home, but 2CVers are testing the venue! We'll also be testing the carvery tonight (veggie friends will be testing the veggie option).

Regarding Sunday morning breakfast, the hotel are currently providing a bacon roll, toast, cereal and tea/coffee for £5. Naturally folk stopping at the hotel have a different option.
