You think it would only take a year to get it fixed?  Ever the optimist!

A Neptune year?, which is 60,182 earth days.

I have to admit that the CF is worse than I first thought and would understand if it is parted out and scrapped but would still like to see it saved.

It's not that bad, really. It won't be scrapped!

Biscuits, coffee, a diesel pump and some dry weather…… il get it running and you will resign it to field duties!

It passed its MOT!

Yes thanks to @ianbmw the red Carlton Estate is back on the road with a fresh MOT.

The Garage who failed it in May claimed it was not worth the effort of MOTing it and even if I did it would cost a fortune!

Ian worked very hard to sort the minor faults without parts. @Andyrew had helped a lot by finding the new brake discs front and rear that were intended for this car and rescued them from the scrap.

In the end I just had to buy a steering Rod and subframe bushes.

Yey!

Has it made it home without an ftp? Does that make it a journey record so far

So far do good! It’s going to living with me for a week or so before the grand hand over back.

Basically, it’s been sitting in the FOD for a year or two and if it’s going to breakdown, it’s better it does it with me, so my children can push us home!

Not really car-related... other than I nearly walked into the back end of the ex-Richard Morris Mercedes 320CE as I walked down the drive in the dark...

The Northern Lights have come down south and are visible currently. Just taken this photo...

I had a look, but Bracknell is directly north and so has too much light pollution

Confused... didn't 6cyl show a photo of it when he owned it a few years back and it looked straight?

That photo was from way before Ian V and then I owned it. I was just showing the original style of wheel trims it had that I liked.

Great result on the estate, really useful motors and well worth saving 👍

It just needs a nice new Omega 3.2 V6 engine(that I might have sitting in a crate somewhere) to go with the wheels!

The problem with a raffle for the Carlton Estate is it might end up with somebody who does not have room for it or does not really want it.

I would sell it on to somebody who is committed to keeping it safe and running. At the moment I am quite happy to keep it and relive 30 years ago when I had this model in this colour brand new as a company car.

How/when did the doors get battered?

Posted

As a home worker, I was excited to leave the village and help bleed some brakes with a friend who needed a hand today.

So I fired up the nosiest starter motor and made hast with all roaring 115 horses( some of which have long since retired since 1993).

43 miles completed….. nothing exciting to report, 80s suspension and balloon tyres are the future for comfort.

I think at 100 miles it’s deemed as fixed as any 30 year old Vauxhall can be.

When they were taken out of storage as scrap cars. I bought them before they got to a scrap yard knowing they were damaged so that is where it ends.

We then had to do to Tesco and get a mug shot photo for crime watch of my son.IMG_8422.jpeg.15398bd3b279596147662533dff4d668.jpeg

then a quick splash and dash….

before off to do the family shop, parking next to a vehicle which can easily do a million miles IMG_8424.jpeg.40b3753ba0c735bcffbac0e6f2769a4e.jpegIMG_8425.jpeg.77f6391387e5567bff245412e8ba806d.jpeg

before back home and slowly looking it likes been on a rally stage.IMG_8430.jpeg.2c09e0d72ca916d959c00a12b39ced3b.jpeg

if anyone has 9 or more points on their license, I can strong recommend driving a 4 cylinder Carlton estate.

If its not going to turn into a rainy winter that could do with a good wash (once it's proven itself) 👌

Rainy winter? What, like the rest of 2024?

It’s had the noisiest starter motor known to man for over 10 years, but it keeps working……however a used gooden will drastically improve first impressions.

It did also have an intermittent starting issue whilst it was on the FOD, which it only ever did when @Six-cylinder tried to start it. However it finally did it with me, resulting in a tap of the fuel pump resulting in it springing into life.

so a new fuel pump and fuel filter will do it the world of good……..but it’s working just fine for me!
