Not as dead as I thought then, I will have to call in when they are open sometime. (And see if they will sell me a cab)

One advantage of having a drive clear out was I found an old 7 series BMW lurking in the back corner so I used it today to run my errands!

Mrs6C reported a revering light out and n-s tail light was out although the on board system said R/fog light! I have replaced the bulbs now and they seem to all work.

I'm not a bmw fan in general, but do like the look of those - understated and not flashy.

BMW allegedly spent something like £700 million developing the E32 over the course of about seven years. An extraordinary sum for 1987.

is the Sebring Mercedes based? if so which model Merc???

Posted

As widely covered in the collection thread we now have the Sebring at home and I have been looking at it all day but just have not had time to lower the hood etc.

What I have learnt about the Sebring from driving it 350 miles.

Only fan speeds 3 and 4 work, no heat on ram even on the motorway

Heated rear window does not work

Rattle from suspension

Rattle from rear trim or hood

Hood inner lining coming away at bottom of rear screen

Worst bit is it would not hot restart at Sandbach services for some time. The seller said he had a problem and thinks it is the immobiliser so has ordered and is sending on a module and key. I am not so sure because the cars turned over but did not start. I think Richarmorris is more likely to be right with a coil pack problem.

The dashboard is blue

It has heated seats that pleases Mrs6C greatly

I really like that Sebring, I did look at one before buying the Merc but it was to far away so couldn't be arsed. Wish I had now as yours look great.

Fuel economy down from Scottishland?

Posted

He hasn't worked out the fuel consumption yet but 27-30 wouldn't surprise me. I seem to remember getting mid-30s from the 2.5L V6 Sebring convertibles I used to drive in the USA, so with this being a tad larger at 2.7L and @Six-cylinder having a bit of a lead foot, your estimate sounds about right...

My cat Jessica used to reply with 'Niaow!!!!!!' when asked when she would like her tea. I guess French cats would have to reply with 'Maintenant!!!!' :-)

Bother, the Sebring will not start this morning.

Your first FTP with it. Better now than later.

Already? Will this become a habit?

What’s it doing? Not turning over, turning with no firing or turning with the occasional splutter?

Posted

It is turning over and attempting to start but not catching.

On advice of the seller I have just locked it with the key and unlocked it it has now started up straight away.

I am going to the field this afternoon to work on the green Range Rover so I will take it and if fails to start there, then it can be left up there.

The fuel tank is being refitted with the help of ianbmw and he says then it will start up fine??????

That's a bugger with the Sebring Chris! Does sound immobilizer related if the immobilizer is on the spark side? IE it will return but no spark to get it to fire?

Seller is right then. Immobiliser.

The Sebring drove to the field just fine, stopped and restarted just fine, moved it just fine, but when I was ready to leave it failed to start until I had locked and unlocked it with the key. On the way home I decided to take my chances and topped the fuel tank and it started instantly.

To answer an earlier question 367 miles at 28.9 mpg, city streets of Glasgow and cruising down the M6.

The green Range Rover has had its replacement fuel tank fitted and while it took a while for the fuel to fill all the pipes it did burst into life, @ianbmw was right and I was wrong!

Amazing to have it running again after 5 years off the road and we did move it around the yard under its own power.

Still a bit to go to get it to MOT standard and build a hybrid gearbox tunnel to fit the old dash with a later transmission selector but it has felt such a big step forward. Thanks again @ianbmw.

Oh and what was I doing when all this hard work was under way, I cleaned it a little bit!
