I don't know whether he took the photo, or someone else. Looks like the quality is shite . His farmhouse is bottom RHS.

I think that photo is the otherside of the village from where we were.

The 1100 is absolutely lovely. I have a factory manual for one of these kicking about somewhere,I will dig it out for you.

You should do a back to back comparison test with the Toledo!

Incoming!

Man maths says this should not count against me in 2024 because I first asked to buy this 1968 Morris 1300  in July 2022 and it has taken this long to come to fruition!

As I knew I was buying a car that needed some fettling I had it taken to the FoD but when it arrived it started easily and sounded sweet so when it became time to go back to the house I could not resist taking it home. It has a bit of a misfire but still cruised along at 50 mph no trouble.

Winter is not a great time for a 55 year old BMC product, but I am looking forward to the summer with it.

It looks like a nice example. My first car was a blue Austin 1300 2 door that I paid £150 for back in 1979. I'd love another one but like all the other BMC/BL stuff I used to own back in the day they're well outside my price range these days.

That's a very intentional shot to avoid the back corner of the range rover there... 🧐

Awesome!

I see you listened to my advice after all  (although now its getting dangerously close to me!)

should go nicely into your fleet seeing as its already MOT exempt, and come the 1st April, It will be Historic Tax £NIL rate too, I assume thats what finally got your resolve to crumble? :)

I look forward to seeing it in person and if I am so allowed pinching it for a trundle around the FoD at some point, I am personally most curious to see how it compares to the 2CV I have driven, given both have umbrella gear shifts and where kind of competitors in period. but are otherwise completely different

I am home.

A bit more drama when the wipers stopped in the rain, I was pleased when the rain ended. Trouble was it was then all the dirty spray from other vehicles stuck to the windscreen.

The Renault had started missing a bit around Norwich and was particularly bad up hill, some miles later we were coughing along the dual carriageway at 35mph flat out and I manage to park safely in a layby. I was worried about fuel as we had discussed it and the filter was 80% full now it was 20% full. I decided to have a look at the points, the gap was tiny and a bit of by eye adjustment did the trick.

The throttle started sticking and needed a toe under to get it off, but with a manual gearbox more of a nuisance than a problem.

Sort of, we sold the other R4 some time ago so we only have one to share.

No thanks, you can not have a fiddle with that and make it work again.

You sold the white one from the side of the road? I thought you had only just bought that!

EDIT: see that you start the tale with “In 2005”. Must read more thoroughly!

It’s an easy mistake, he buys all the lost and lonely things he can find.

Nearly grinding to a halt on a dual carriageway and then driving without wipers at dusk in and out of rain is a bit tense. I have now had my tea and had time to think about driving the Renault 4 for the first time in 17 years.

This 4 GTL drives very nicely, steers well, brakes well and cruises at 60 mph comfortably. Yes there are things to attend to which we will tackle in spring when it will get free road tax.

* Have a laugh on me, I used a toilet in a garage on the way today and went to hang my fleece on the back of the door but the hook was broken. I laid my fleece across the basin instead, but the automatic tap turned on and soaked my fleece! *

I’ve always seen R4 as the great 2cv rip off. Not helped by my parent’s first new car ( as I came along ) being a white Renault 4. It failed the first mot in 1976 as the floor was not attached to the body. That was the end of that as the dealer I’m told said it was nothing to do with them. I think it was briefly replace by a Humber super snipe ( px at the main dealer my gran worked at) before forty years of Citroens started with a 1977 green Dyane.

So basically, we’re exactly two weeks in to the year and you’ve bought two cars?
