The sodium is metallic and it is inside the valve; they're made with hollow stems, the sodium is put in(presumably under an inert atmosphere) and the collet end welded on.

I sold my Gamma to a chap who wanted the engine to put in a kit car he was building which was designed for an Alfa flat-4.  I thought at the time that using the Gamma was a brave choice - maybe the spares situation was better back then (15 years ago), although I rather doubt it.

I thought sodium = salt! And I thought salt helps to corrode?

Sorry to read of the Gamma's engine failure.  You may have just experienced the infamous timing belt snatch. Timing doesnt need to be far out before piston knocks head of valve sideways and clank......

I hope a head turns up quickly.  The cylinder liners are said to sink in these engines, make sure they are checked before reassembly, while the heads off etc.

The BX has lost its head today, but the engineering shop it has been taken to for pressure test and skim can't start it until the end of next week.

I don't see an MGB in that picture and far too many Citroens...

So I guess the answer won't be what I was hoping for!

Next time I'm over can I have a sit in it? It's the only citroen in the mid 90s range I've never tried! And whilst I'm imagining I'll not fit into it terribly well, I can at least tick it off in my head.

Unless Chris is bringing it to shitefest? In which case I'll have a sit there!

You're welcome to have a shot in mine this weekend.

You will turn his head with your wheel arch extensions, front fog lights, three spoke steering wheel and bucket seats!

I have been in touch with the club who are really the only UK source of spares, they are hopeful but need some time to look them out.

This one may still be languishing somewhere in Hertsmere:

Abandoned Renault 5 & Lancia Gamma

As already announced in another topic  I now have the replacement cylinder head for the Gamma along with a cam and followers for the other side. My favourite garage still has the car as well as the engine so space will be push them on to get it finished and gone.

While we were all enjoying ourselves in Devon at Shitefest 19 the AX has been shedding its lacquer sat on the drive. It was always missing some patches of lacquer but in the rain further large areas of lacquer have lifted and you could see the water under it. I have never seen anything like it!

Our MG Metro is currently in a bodyshop having a full repaint, I have been to visit the body shop this morning and they are asking me for decals and the side window weather strips that fit on the doors where the windows lower into it. Anybody know if these items are available and if so where can I buy them?

I think there are MK2. I may have found some, I am just waiting for confirmation.

I am still looking for outer weather strips for the door windows.

Well, if you’re going to be picky over stickers!......:-)

..all too much reminds me of the tank on my (previously restored*) motorcycle ..whose paint dissolves and wipes off at the first whiff of petrol !  :-x
