something about power to the fuel pump and the wires to it

andy was under the back giving it a tap and moving it about while mike read the meter so there was enuff signal then eventually start

not bad in under two hours

cant believe how calm he was :D we'd have been setting fire to it and being arrested for language and public order :D

What’s next with the cx then?

The CX had a wire missing to the coil that told the ECU what was happening and the fuel pump had seized.

Mike refitted the wire and  @Andyrew gave the fuel pump a tap but nothing so had to jack the car and hit it with a club hammer while Mike bridged the relay so the pump ran regardless of the engine not started. Eventually after a fair number of taps it gave in and started working. Mike then let the fuel pump run for 10 minutes before we attempted to start it, first 3 cylinders then 4 cylinders and it ran cleanly and we had the header tank return pipe getting warm so everything seemed good. Mike thinks the running on 3 was a gummed injector and the fuel does smell old and stale.

Just before we were ready to leave I said I just want to hear it running again, but it would not start. The fuel pump had stopped working again and no amount of tapping would bring it to life. The last job was to remove the fuel pump to get a replacement.

Better than mine at the moment. Mine starts, but I'm afraid to run it in case more internal damage.

That looks identical to the Saab ones (K-Jet system) in which case I've got one you're welcome to "borrow" for as long as you need.  It was replaced in an attempt to resolve what was eventually traced to be an ignition issue.

Now you look silly as I had corrected it before you even posted!

Where is the fuel pump? I didn’t think of this as a problem last time as it did start.

Fuel pump is mounted on the rear sub-frame driver's side.

I think the fuel pump was working last time we worked on it.

I have got a new 0580 464 069 but it has got the wrong fitting.

This was bought for a Volvo 740 GLE that should have banjo fittings.

Mine has the banjo fitting - but a hose barb adaptor on it (was used on the Lada until the in tank one arrived).

You could alternatively just rob the fittings from mine if that helps.

Chris wanted a fuel pump for the cx,

I took this seriously , no joking around when it comes to fuel pumps , so the Pressure was on, and I was feeling pretty pumped up about it.

Once I had got in my flow I began my search and after filtering out the rubbish I found a new one. It seems the terminals on the pumps are all bolt on now and bosch provided new crimps but that's replacement parts for You, there's always negatives and positives about these things.

I am going to strain this, how about a filter, Mann WK 613

Ebay has one at £12.62 and somebody else is offering a Mann Hummel for £8.56. Is Hummel an after market brand the seller is trying to pass off as a Mann?

Little milestone achieved by one of your fleet today.

It had done 125,000 miles when we bought it in 2008. It was always an extra car but I see from the MOTs we peaked at 7694 miles in a year 2008/2009.

Highlights include

Running it flat out on a German Motorway.

Driving it round the Nurgburgring as fast as I dared.

Driving it continuously for 7 hours 15 mins to get to Edinburgh in one go.

Our 735i has been out on loan for the last week and what a pampering it has received including a full polish.

Thank you Andyrew.

When Mrs6C took on the Visa Cabriolet in Edinburgh I needed to tax it so aldo135 could drive it, but it had disabled tax from the last owner so I could not tax it or change the tax class on-line. I waited for the new V5C to arrive in Mrs6C name ( just 5 days) and took it to the post office and explained the car was no longer entitled to disabled tax so I paid the fee and they taxed it. They said they needed to keep that V5C to send to DVLA so the tax class could be updated and a new V5C would be sent to Mrs6C.

In today's post Mrs6C got a letter from DVLA saying they did not know why the V5C had been sent to them so returned it to her complete with Disabled tax class!

Did the Post office not tick the correct box or the DVLA not process it correctly?
