Spotted in the Citroen club mag and Mrs6C said we need to go and see it. Just as described a 67k miles, owned for 400 miles CX with some lacquer peel ready to use so we had to take it........ and how long was its stay with you?
Six-cylinder Posted February 5, 2019 Author Posted February 5, 2019 ... and how long was its stay with you? Aug 2015 to Oct 2017. On the road most of that time, about 3,000 miles including a classic car tour in Wales. Remember I still have the 1983 CX 2400 I/E Pallas Auto and I have asked a mobile mech when the weather warms up to help me get the throttle cable off to get it remade and sort the major LHM leek from the rear. Mrs6C, Tadhg Tiogar, Sudsprint and 1 other 4
Six-cylinder Posted February 6, 2019 Author Posted February 6, 2019 A little success today, the bush on the gear selector is the right one and fits. The car now starts because the lever on the gearbox is moved the correct amount to clear the inhibitor switch. Booked for MOT tomorrow......... Mrs6C, eddyramrod, RobT and 12 others 15
paulplom Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Love the binnacle in the visa. Like you really need to be reminded you're driving a citroen everytime you check your speed. Six-cylinder, SierraMikeHotel and egg 3
Six-cylinder Posted February 7, 2019 Author Posted February 7, 2019 The posher ones have a clock without hands, then you could always have one with hands and the poshest have a rev counter! Mrs6C, paulplom, Skizzer and 2 others 5
MorrisItalSLX Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 But how do you check the time in the poshest model?
Bfg Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 .^ perhaps a comment on reliability.? It's a sun dial Tadhg Tiogar and beko1987 2
Six-cylinder Posted February 7, 2019 Author Posted February 7, 2019 But how do you check the time in the poshest model? In a GT you are going so fast time does not pass! Real answer, they scatter gun a digital clock onto the lower oddment tray. MorrisItalSLX, Mrs6C, Lacquer Peel and 3 others 6
Eyersey1234 Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Sorry to hear about the Cadillac. What use is a clock without hands though?
Six-cylinder Posted February 7, 2019 Author Posted February 7, 2019 What use is a clock without hands though? Ask Hairnet he bought the car like that! 320touring and The Moog 2
Momentary Lapse Of Reason Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Cadillac MOT fail. Hurrah! gears Boo! MoT fail

Six-cylinder Posted February 7, 2019 Author Posted February 7, 2019 that list aint bad its only covers - brake is only cos its sat fixd by monday then I have to gets the bits yet USA spares said they would phone back and they haven't, 247 said they had them and on screen and have not come back to me.
Six-cylinder Posted February 7, 2019 Author Posted February 7, 2019 More failure, this time the E Type which we have been trying to get back running after the core plugs were changed and found blue water in the back carburettor throat. Two ways it could get there one from the inlet manifold gasket leaking from waterway to a port, but there is nothing obvious. Or second there is a water way built into the inlet manifold and that could be leaking internally. I have ordered a new Gasket and my mech will use his cooling system pressure gauge to test the manifold next week. Sigmund Fraud, Exiled_Tat_Gatherer and RobT 3

Six-cylinder Posted February 8, 2019 Author Posted February 8, 2019 I am taking the VP to Bognor tomorrow to have a manual gearbox conversion and check over before it returns to the road. My friend who owns the trailer volunteered that I could park the loaded ensemble on his drive overnight as it is the end of cul-de-sac while mine is reversing from a 50 mph road not to far from a blind crest. Funny thing since he made the offer he has a viewing on his house this afternoon and made me park the Allegro round the corner until his prospective house buyers have been and gone! richardmorris, Skizzer, oldcars and 13 others 16
Six-cylinder Posted February 8, 2019 Author Posted February 8, 2019 I now have this C5 for the evening, useful car but not quite as enjoyable as the XM he used to have, that I could borrow. Mrs6C 1
wuvvum Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 manual gearbox conversionThis is a good thing. I don't normally mind autos, especially in a comfy squishy relaxing car like a Plah, but the AP 'box is sheeeeite. richardthestag and Six-cylinder 2
BeEP Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 I prefer to think of them as endearingly quirky. I had an Allegro 1500 auto (Austin, not fancy VP) a number of years ago and it was quite safe to pull away at T-junctions provided you could see half a mile of clear road in both directions! richardthestag 1
Six-cylinder Posted February 8, 2019 Author Posted February 8, 2019 This is a good thing. I don't normally mind autos, especially in a comfy squishy relaxing car like a Plah, but the AP 'box is sheeeeite. I agree autos in most cases are fine but not AP. The friend who owns the trailer sold them new and remembers having to buy an Auto Allegro back from a customer because it just would not pull itself along when starting from cold.
Six-cylinder Posted February 8, 2019 Author Posted February 8, 2019 Six speed box? AP Auto 4 speed Manual for 1500 5 speed
Asimo Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Does that AP autotransverseoboxamatic use ATF or engine oil? I'm sure I once read somewhere that it uses the E-series sump oil but that sounds such a crap idea, especially with 1970's style 20w30 that turned to sooty jelly in just a few thousand miles.
