He left it alone so I thought it would be a good photo. Lawrie came back to see what I was up to and we had a happy chat including the perils of driving a Fire Engine halfway across the country. Now I wish I had asked him to pose between the pair.
Six-cylinder Posted September 30, 2024 Author Posted September 30, 2024 Another “Grand Day Out Gromit” on Sunday at the BMC Day, Milton Keynes Museum just with the Metro in the end. The MG Metro is one of the tidiest cars we have but I ended up next to the Applejack Metro, the best in the country and better than new! Mrs6C, MondeoBlues, Floatylight and 6 others 9
Yoss Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 Genuine mk1 PI estate? That's a bit special if it is. They only made 371 to start with. Survivors must be in single digits and roadworthy survivors in very low single digits. LightBulbFun 1

It belongs to Mark the proprietor of my favourite garage. It looked like a rotten parts car when he got it and he welded it all up then did the mechanical work. It is Mark's "everyday" 2500 so the paint is untouched and a bit scruffy. He also has a genuine 2500 Pi Saloon in lovely condition. The good news for me is he has lent the estate to me a few times and says I can borrow his best saloon next year. The P6 belongs to @Zelandeth of this parish. High Jetter, LightBulbFun and Yoss 3

I think any sort of mk1 would be a great companion for my 1300TC. I had quite a few many years ago but the days of picking them up for under a grand are long gone. This was my first. Had it a couple of years when a Ford Transit cut across a junction and wiped the offside front corner out. I sold it to another 2000 Register member who repaired it and sold it to another member who still owns it to this day. He must have had it 30 years now. I still see it occasionally at local shows. It's actually Cactus over Olive not the more common Conifer. Cactus interior too. somewhatfoolish, Mrs6C, Shite Ron and 1 other 4

I sold it because while solid it needed a full respray and many minor dents taken out of it caused by bicycles being leaned on it in storage prior to me owning it. Also the lack of power steering always disappointed me. Mark recently had a lovely original 1964 2000 manual saloon that he offered to me. I borrowed that for a couple of days but only being a 2000cc and having no power steering didn't quite hit the spot. LightBulbFun, Mrs6C, Yoss and 1 other 4

I was always more of a mk1 man back in the day but Mk2s in a good colour do look very elegant. I personally can't think of a more attractive four door saloon. I know it's all down to personal taste but if anybody disagrees, sorry, you're wrong. mk2_craig and RayMK 2
High Jetter Posted September 30, 2024 Posted September 30, 2024 I love the look of the Mk1 front, and the rear - that lived on through the smaller cars for ages

Six-cylinder Posted October 3, 2024 Author Posted October 3, 2024 Today we had a further session preparing the Carlton Estate for MOT. The first task was to fit the new front discs. Then look onto why the fanbelt was shredding, turns out the fixings for the cam cover was broken. Now we know what is wrong we can go back to it. The big success tonight was getting the o-s rear subframe bush into place. beko1987, Mrs6C, catsinthewelder and 12 others 15
