dollywobbler Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Can't wait to see this one in action again. There's a GTi auto on Ebay at the moment. Bidding is already at £2500! WTF? The 'cheap BX' days really are fast disappearing. I think a GTi auto would be a very jolly combo. Junkman 1
bramz7 Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Yeah a relative of the owner of that GTi on eBay generated quite a bit of interest for it on the BX Club Facebook page, plus it does look especially nice. My two BXs were cheap but both need work. If anyone is interested in a BX i might know someone who might sell their TZI Estate to the right person for not too much. Oh also, loving that GTi Six Cylinder, i imagine you must have some very strong emotional ties to that car. Bear 1
holbeck Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 empty it into a nearby canal, that's what I do I used to know an old school service engineer who was a great all-round chap, except he didn't give a flying feck about the environment. His parting shot after doing some job on the engine on a yacht was to chuck a bowl full of genklene over the side. He and the owner watched in horror as this glob of genklene floated against the side of the fibreglass hull and did it's worst. demag, Skizzer, somewhatfoolish and 1 other 4
somewhatfoolish Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 Mix in with old engine oil which they're happy to accept? That or light bonfires with it. If you're a fully qualified minge-bag you could pour it back into the tank small amounts at a time with each new tank of fuel, but that seems like a lot of work and bonfires are for winnars.
Six-cylinder Posted April 10, 2017 Author Posted April 10, 2017 The Alfa looks good in the first photo, but what you cannot see is, that it is there because driving alone yesterday 40 miles from home when there was a bang and smoke out the back. I thought the turbo had gone then I remembered this is not a turbo car, further investigation showed the o-s rear suspension had collapsed and when the AA turned up they think the bottom cup for the spring has parted company with the strut. Anyway the car is now with a garage waiting investigation.
Six-cylinder Posted April 15, 2017 Author Posted April 15, 2017 Getting ready for PoL yesterday my Rover 75 shat its exhaust. 1st reserve the MG ZR was got out of storage and given a clean. This was followed by a few photos with me trying to hide the ZR in plain view. BorniteIdentity, HMC, RobT and 10 others 13
Six-cylinder Posted April 16, 2017 Author Posted April 16, 2017 We took the DS for a run today, while we were out it turned another 100,000 km. This is 300,000km now, I know this because in spite of it being 45 years old and starting life in France I have the full history of the car. demag, Skizzer, Vantman and 13 others 16
Six-cylinder Posted April 16, 2017 Author Posted April 16, 2017 Something very strange happened to me today, two girls turned up and asked please could take away and properly clean my BMW E30! It seems to be something to do with the fact it has been in a music video, but guess what I said - yes. It seems they are going to do some more tomorrow! RobT, hennabm, purplebargeken and 4 others 7

Afterwards you find your wallet missing. As you say they are coming back, you can get a wallet for £1.99 in Home Bargains purplebargeken, Sigmund Fraud, Skizzer and 2 others 5

DodgeRover Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Aside from a big fire, how can you dispose of old fuel? I have a couple of cans of it that I want shot of and our local tip won't take it.How stale is it? Our Fergy tractor will run on it.
Six-cylinder Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 I was supposed to be taking Vitesse to Wales Friday for a classic driving tour but yesterday it ran like a pig and would not start this morning. Compression all 140 – 150 psi. New plugs, points, condenser, rotor arm and distributor cap. Now starts but still spits back violently from time to time. I have had the tops off the float chambers and every thing looks ok. The shut of valves seem to both work well and the only thing I noticed was the petrol level in the rear float chamber seems slightly higher than the front. I can’t see any way of adjusting that.
Six-cylinder Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 My Alfa 156 has been bashed again this time by a carer for next door, my friend who witnessed it said she made no effort to steer the car and just reversed into it across a fast county road. Pushed the door in a bit, but the door works and car still drives ok. My problem is whether to claim on her insurance or would I be worse off in the long run given my low value car would be written off?
dollywobbler Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 That car doesn't have much luck does it? On the Vitesse, when was all the new stuff fitted? Before or after it started playing up? Condenser would be my first thought. Hope you get it sorted, though I guess you've no shortage of back-ups... alf892 1

Six-cylinder Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 Interesting to see SUs on it. Spitting back implies timing out or a sticky valve. Or possibly tracking in the distributor cap. Float height is adjusted by bending the float arm. Then fine tuning with the jet adjuster on the carb. Ben No Vitesses had SU carbs they are probably off a 2000 saloon and have been on there the 12+ years I have had it. It spent 5 days parked up where I had driven it 5 miles away and ran like a pig when I retrieved it. I always thought a little variation in fuel level was normal and the jet set accordingly.

I'm sure a s/h door could be located for around the £50 mark, plus the same again for you to "get it fitted". £100 to avoid losing her NCB is a small price to pay. Bear and purplebargeken 2
Six-cylinder Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 Sounds as though it needs an Italian tune up. Ben I just don't think this would work, something is wrong it has never been like this before.
Six-cylinder Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 I should be able to find it, I bought my first Vitesse in 1977, yes forty years ago and I have owned them all my life and worked on them. This is the only bit of picture I can find of my 1st Vitesse. hennabm 1

My problem is whether to claim on her insurance or would I be worse off in the long run given my low value car would be written off? Turns out to be a company car that hit me and the girl had no idea what to do so I rang the company today. I was called back by a helpful person who asked if I would mind settling this without going though insurance. He suggested I got some repair quotes and they would consider just paying for the repairs. I think the repairs will cost more than the car is worth and said as much, suggesting that rather than me and them spending time and effort on this I would settle for a very modest payment in return for not having to get quotes etc. I was asked to email photos and within an hour I had an email to say the cheque is in the post. I still of coarse have a damaged door but the rear door is off colour and the front wheel arch scraped so I will decide what to do after the next MOT in November. My neighbour told me the girl was quite upset today so I called her to say it was all sorted out. Sheefag, RobT, sporty-shite and 8 others 11

Needs must, I think I will stay there although that is my favourite spot for the car I am using and that seems to be the MG ZR at the moment. Maybe people will see a yellow car and miss it!
