Wires look almost thick enough for it to be part of the starting circuit.  If it's not connected to anything I would just bin it.  Possibly a project a previous owner had started but then failed to finish.

 

Definitely pop the cap off and have a lookie.

 

 

Just while commenting, The picture above with the Triumph on axle-stands looks a tadge precarious!  A small nudge from one side and that will be off those stands and on the floor in a nanosecond...

I'd be chopping the blue wires, spoils the look of the engine bay.

That's also the advice in the HBOL on bomb diffusing.

The Spitfire is all sorted and has driven away under its own power.

 

A local Motor factors in Milton Keynes had a set of front brake pads in stock, the spring and diff have made the car feel much better to drive.

I think I am losing my mojo as well!

 

My CX 2400I/E is supposed to be moved by the end of December. Today I had the Auto electrician booked to see if we can progress my red CX, after two hours freezing in an open barn we are no nearer running, we have a spark but the no fuel pump, We have tested the pump with a direct feed and it pumps fuel fine but some where in the mass of green wires and relays/signals power is not getting to the pump. To make matters worse the wiring diagram we are using is just the Haynes manual and does not seem to be the same as the car I have. In the end we were both two cold to carry on.

 

Even getting to the CX was a nightmare, I planned to use our C15 van because if I used it for a jump start there are no electronics to upset, but Mrs6C said she need that for moving stuff out of my mothers house which is being sold. That left me with the ZX TD estate with plenty of room for tools, battery etc and simple electrics if I jumped from it. That had a flat battery so no problem the jump jack is already in the ZX, then I spotted the flat tyre, abandoned it and took the Range Rover. 3 miles later the Range Rover put is Air suspension failed sign up!

 

The Range Rover is definitely broken and the suspension has gone hard, not sure what to do with it yet.

 

I charged the ZX battery at the weekend so thought going flat again meant it had failed so fitted another battery I had. Then I noticed the alarm kept going off, not the horn just flashing headlight and indicators. The remote is bust so I locked and unlocked the car but it would pause and then flash again. I disconnected the battery and reconnected and it still flashed. I went to take the battery terminal off but touched it back on again and it did not flash so I re connected it and so far so good. The flat turned out to be pot hole damage luckily it is a steel rim so the tyre place reshaped it for me with a big hammer.

 

The C15 also has a rear lights issue still to be dealt with.

 

I have been cold and buggered about with cars all day without any real progress, where do I sign the lease for the new Golf!

The only Haynes I ever had that was electrically accurate was for the Austin Ambassador. Probably because it was only made in one version. No updates, no overseas models, one engine, electricity-free gearbox etc etc.

 

Actually it was such a simple car that the Ambassador Haynes was the thinnest of my collection of multicoloured and black fingerprinted books of lies, errors and omissions.

Re: Cx no go. When I had a ftp in my CX (same as your gold one) same symptoms, Mr RAC just swopped a relay. Wipers didn't work but at least the engine ran. Not much help I know. But it is probably just a duff relay or corroded connectors to said relay.

Finding where that relay is with an HBOL is roulette though.

All cx electrickery is generally along the n/s engine bay. Relays under headlamp and on the bulkhead hidden by the LHM reservoir.

I was so cold and being too fat and getting old means changing car wheels is no fun. You don't have to feel too sorry for me as I have been given the use lovely 2007 Mercedes 320CDi and when I took the puncture repair to the garage I popped the heated seat on , yes everything works in it!

 

Anyway I know if I leased a new car I would like it for a couple of weeks and then regret signing up for it and not having any fun buying bangers!

Better news today I collected my Alfa 156 with a new MOT, front discs/pads, free off handbrake cable and weld up exhaust without destroying its loud bark for those who know the car!

I had to move our 330Ci E46 from one storage to another and it started immediately and run perfectly.

 

I also went to move 325i E30 from the drive to storage and it started fine. After a few minuets it stalled and would not restart. I opened the bonnet and the whole engine is soaking wet.

 

Better news for the Rover 216 convertible as it got to go to storage instead of the 325i.

There has been an update* since then - current advice is to reach in and grab as many wires as possible, then yank them all out at once.

Been years since I last had a car that cared about the engine being wet...that was an L plate Fiesta...and a new set of HT leads resolved that!

 

If it's that sensitive to damp I reckon the ignition system could do with some TLC.
