... and how long was its stay with you?

Aug 2015 to Oct 2017.

On the road most of that time, about 3,000 miles including a classic car tour in Wales.

Remember I still have the 1983 CX 2400 I/E Pallas Auto and I have asked a mobile mech when the weather warms up to help me get the throttle cable off to get it remade and sort the major LHM leek from the rear.

A little success today, the bush on the gear selector is the right one and fits. The car now starts because the lever on the gearbox is moved the correct amount to clear the inhibitor switch.

Booked for MOT tomorrow.........

Love the binnacle in the visa. Like you really need to be reminded you're driving a citroen everytime you check your speed.

The posher ones have a clock without hands, then you could always have one with hands and the poshest have a rev counter!

In a GT you are going so fast time does not pass!

Real answer, they scatter gun a digital clock onto the lower oddment tray.

More failure, this time the E Type which we have been trying to get back running after the core plugs were changed and found blue water in the back carburettor throat. Two ways it could get there one from the inlet manifold gasket leaking from waterway to a port, but there is nothing obvious. Or second there is a water way built into the inlet manifold and that could be leaking internally.

I have ordered a new Gasket and my mech will use his cooling system pressure gauge to test the manifold next week.

*Safe to look at the time on the move then.

I am taking the VP to Bognor tomorrow to have a manual gearbox conversion and check over before it returns to the road. My friend who owns the trailer volunteered that I could park the loaded ensemble on his drive overnight as it is the end of cul-de-sac while mine is reversing from a 50 mph road not to far from a blind crest.

Funny thing since he made the offer he has a viewing on his house this afternoon and made me park the Allegro round the corner until his prospective house buyers have been and gone!

I now have this C5 for the evening, useful car but not quite as enjoyable as the XM he used to have, that I could borrow.

manual gearbox conversion

This is a good thing.  I don't normally mind autos, especially in a comfy squishy relaxing car like a Plah, but the AP 'box is sheeeeite.

I prefer to think of them as endearingly quirky.  I had an Allegro 1500 auto (Austin, not fancy VP) a number of years ago and it was quite safe to pull away at T-junctions provided you could see half a mile of clear road in both directions!

I agree autos in most cases are fine but not AP. The friend who owns the trailer sold them new and remembers having to buy an Auto Allegro back from a customer because it just would not pull itself along when starting from cold.

Does that AP autotransverseoboxamatic use ATF or engine oil? I'm sure I once read somewhere that it uses the E-series sump oil but that sounds such a crap idea, especially with 1970's style 20w30 that turned to sooty jelly in just a few thousand miles.
