2017 has been a fantastic year for cars, but I feel for 2018 I need to focus on the cars that I want the most and stop being distracted along the way.

 

 

The 3 big aims of 2018 are going to be:

Spitfire 6 to return to road

Citroen Visa GT welded

They fell off and the font has gone all funny and the photo loading requires a click less than it used to, is the forum beaking!

That's really quite useful information as it gives us a known dodgy area of wiring to point suspicion at.  Armed with a wiring diagram we should be able to ascertain if there are any problems there.

 

The fact that your electrician found continuity from one end of the loom to the other doesn't necessarily mean that a signal is getting through.  It's entirely possible that the wire has shorted to another conductor or to ground - especially if there's been a fire!  It's just a matter of being methodical and patient about it really.

 

If you can find the connectors involved it's entirely possible that it might be worth having those bits of the loom remade.

 

These cars do try our patience sometimes, but there's just something about real Citroens.

 

I managed about a month short of two years after I sold on my first Xantia 1.9TD.  

 

Now there's a bloody Activa in the drive!  I'm sure the air will be turned blue when that goes wrong the first time!

No idea if it's still there (going back 10+ years) but Sharpewoods Scrappy up by Huntly used to have one of those Alfas right at the back in the trees.  Was mostly complete, as with most of the stuff at the back being less common models.

 

Saw it the day I utterly failed to save the immaculate Nissan Cherry 1.3SGL someone had just driven in to the yard.

Sharpwoods still exist, it’s been for sale for ages as a going concern but no takers. They have never broken a 107 when I phoned them yesterday on an engine hunt.

All I can say is, thank goodness I wasn't around when you were selling that CX.

The two big successes of 2017 have been the return to the road of our MG Metro MK1 and Citroen LNA

 

The LNA was if I bid low I can dream of owning it without the trouble it would bring, £103.99 was not low enough!

 

The Metro was Mrs6C letting nostalgia get the better of her, her teacher had one and we could not afford a proper one so bought a project, It turned out to be much worse that described.

 

Both cars took more than a year but are now running MOTed just needing paintwork.

Hmmm, I seem to recall that a nice AS member sent us a lovely sales brochure featuring the S1 MG Metro in it, so obviously that was a sign that you had to get me one!

Mk I Metro...car I most regret selling.

 

Especially in Snapdragon Yellow.

 

Really sad as well that it seems to have disappeared almost as soon as I sold it, was sod all wrong with it either.

Mine could not think of a new fault to present me so let some air out of it's tyre, I knew it was doing it because in the rain I could see all the bubbles it was blowing at me!

Today is a special day, as we collected the Gamma fully running from the garage that has put it back on the road for me. I noticed there was fir tree debris under the rear vision louver, so the garage owner decided to give it a wash if we promised not to photograph him doing it!

 

After 3 miles I stopped for the petrol station shot and two people rushed over, one staying a while taking photos so I photographed him!

 

I knew the sun would be down by the time we got home, so we stopped for a couple of shots on the way and the Alfa was feeling left out!

 

We reached home safely and I have a Gamma meeting to attend with it on Sunday.

Yes, the power steering is driven off one of the cam belts so if the belt is worn or out of adjustment it can jump a tooth with load from the pump.
