Six Cylinders Motoring Notes - a Workshop Day Today

Oooh...Argocat...had a shot of one years ago and reckoned it was the most fun you could have on wheels.  It wasn't fast...but at the same time it was utterly unaffected by the terrain you were negotiating.

Then I had to rescind the "most fun" title when I had a shot of an Alvis Stalwart.

New Rangie is quite something.  Really not my sort of thing but I can appreciate the attraction.

Having a virtual instrument panel and as much of the vehicle driven by that huge touchscreen seems rather a liability in a Range Rover though!

Mrs SiC friend (who bought my TT) lived along there and her mum still does. The houses are all quite new (last 15 years or so), so quite likely Mr and Mrs Anderson moved there at some point. The whole area was bought back up by the council/builders for redevelopment - must have been around 2006ish time. I know her friends mum moved in when it was all new. 

I'll ask her when I next see her if she or her mum knew the name.

The service book was filled in Feb 1988.

Possibly this house then? Going by the grab bars on the front to help someone elderly. Also garage at the back could have been where it was stored?

Despite generous prices, some residents refused to move. A lot were owned by the council too. Most buildings that got knocked down was of non-standard construction - i.e. postwar prefabs.

That house was sold in Sept 2019. Inside looks like it had someone elderly in it. So it all ties up.

Oh cool! one cropped up in the ebay tat thread a while back, I had seen them in salsbury catalogs etc when doing Model 70 research, but I never expected to see one show up let alone be in the UK road registries and all!

Normal Service has been resumed!

Normal Service being I broke down, today in the AX. Well not quite a failure, the last time I used it it had a lumpy idle, today it got worse and worse until it would not idle at all. I had taken the AX for new tyres today which all went well. The rear tyres were dated 1987 and the front 2004 and 2007.

I was trying a new place for the tyres 5 miles from home, after a recommendation from a friend. A one man village garage with all the decay and interest to make it a fantastic place to visit and hopefully become a regular customer. It has started well and while fully booked he agreed to keep the AX planning to strip the carb and make it run nicely between other jobs. I felt much happier leaving it there than risking driving it home to find it cut out altogether.

The day had started with me fitting new tailgate struts to the AX that turned out to be an easy job and stops the boot closing on its own.

I had planned to wire in my new radio/cassette this afternoon, but as the AX did not come home I could not tackle that.

I'm all 'bout that ax, 'bout that ax, no trevi!

he's risking overheating and burning out the ballast in the fixture if he leaves it in that state too long!

(if you leave a burnt out fluorescent tube blinking for too long, eventually the tube starter contacts weld closed and remain permanently closed, which stresses out the ballast/control gear in the fixture)

the fixture could also be a Semi-resonant start or quickstart fixture that someones installed a T8 tube into, those fixtures only work with T12 tubes and cannot strike a T8 tube properly

(like the 1970's 6ft Popular pack in your garage thats currently tubeless)

For anybody who does not like to be warm and comfortable on a Saturday morning I am opening the FoD tomorrow at 9.30 am!

The principal reason is the Auto sparks is coming to see if he can get the Citroen CX running for me.

Anybody is welcome to come and check it out, usual stuff PM me for the address if you have not been before.

I think it will be cold so we may not be up there that long, but if anybody wants coffee and car talk we will retire to the house 2 miles away.

I doubt I'll be in a functional state in the morning based on how things have been going over the last couple of weeks, but if folks are expecting to be about at the house in the afternoon and still nattering about cars I might look to put an appearance for a cup of coffee. 

Have done very little lately by way of actually interacting with the outside world and I really ought to push myself to do more of that as I've been getting kicked to do more socialisation by the psychologist.

Signature Update

Range Rover TD6 - sold

VP1500 - taken to have the exhaust fixed and as I got there it made a horrid noise from the clutch and dragging, investigation begins Wednesday.

I’ve just unearthed this cassette player from the garage. Came out of my 1986 CX.  Was working (2001, since when it's been in the same box), comes with instruction manual, power lead and two speaker leads ( odd Phillips shaped ones). Any use?
