quicksilver Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 The Field of Dreams was transported through a time portal to the 1970s today Another fantastic day and it was great to meet a very happy LightBulbFun who was over the moon with his first car. I also got to drive Zel's camper, which goes surprisingly well for something with the aerodynamics of a brick and about 80bhp to lug around nearly 3 tons. Also this happened - when did you last see a pair of ZXs together? Mrs6C, BL Bloke, beko1987 and 10 others 13
beko1987 Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 You could have closed the boot you know! I just left it open as it was easier to get the Genuine Optional Dealer fit baby change mat out...

Quite terrifying! And I nearly reversed at speed through the tent we’d just put up. I’ve just been reading up on LBF’s thread with its ups and downs. Some great research and detail on the vehicles, but I’ve no real idea why the car register has thrown all their dummies out of the pram, and the connection with the conservative councillor oddball is weird and worthy of a letter to private eye. But the engine sounds very sweet and starts instantly, brakes need some work I think and apart from the tyres and a couple of bulbs that’s about it. Oh I forgot quicksilver tried to take a windscreen wiper shot to make DW happy. But the motor doesn’t work. Overall pretty good for 40 years old. And quite a unique first car. Investigation (above) revealed the slack was all in the attachment of the steering wheel. Slowsilver then directed beko to chop 3mm off the end of the collar, which he did cackhandardly and got the children to do again properly. So we put it back together, and slowsilver told us to take it apart again so he could grease it. this seems to have been an improvement, and the next hour I spend cutting the grass was mostly problem free. beko1987, Mrs6C, worldofceri and 2 others 3 2

Six-cylinder Posted July 13, 2019 Author Posted July 13, 2019 As richardmorris said earlier successful start up of the Jinling followed by the disappointment of no drive. Richard took the cover off and found the belt was toast. After everybody left, following advice from Andyrew I took the front drive pulley off and clutch/reardrive pulley off and sure enough as he predicted there were hands full of shredded belt in the front pulley workings. The good news is it looks like the clutch is fine. Now I need a belt, it carries the Markings 139 C, 140 C, 141,C, 142 C TZBRT, VARIABLE DRIVE, FOR MOTOR CYCLE. richardmorris 1

richardmorris Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 For reference, before I forget. The one very long bolt was bottom right, and the one short bolt was bottom left attaching the brass coloured plate etc. Mrs6C 1

Zelandeth Posted July 13, 2019 Posted July 13, 2019 Good - if very long - day. LBF's Invacar (and it is an Invacar not an AC) is in downright astonishingly good nick. I reckon that new tyres, a full brake service, fuel system overhaul, carb strip and clean, a couple of really minor bodywork repairs and the obligatory chasing of dodgy earths and electrical connectors should see it good. I'm not insignificantly envious! richardmorris, Mrs6C, beko1987 and 3 others 6
