Six-cylinder Posted August 28, 2018 Author Posted August 28, 2018 LNA wiper update – I have done a temporary fix, the pivot shaft in the arm runs in a thin tube that is pressed into the monkey metal casting and the ends of the tube are broken away allowing the long part of the wiper arm to wobble. I have put a nut and bolt though it with largish washers which seems to have limited the movement. I think it should MOT like this and I have found a second-hand one that I will be getting at the Visa’s 40th Birthday in two weeks. egg, Mrs6C and RobT 3
Talbot Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 The component in question (the monkey metal bit) is common to hundreds of different cars. Lots of moderns now have interesting and bizzare shapes to this bit, but a staggering number of 70s, 80s and 90s cars use exactly the same component. I've swapped a few in the past when they've worn like this. Mrs6C 1
Six-cylinder Posted August 30, 2018 Author Posted August 30, 2018 At last the LNA got its MOT today. D Spares & Tyres, Mrs6C, uk_senator and 14 others 17
DSdriver Posted August 30, 2018 Posted August 30, 2018 Looks very similar to the DS wiper arm - you could always swap one of those for the MOT. Edit/ I see I am late to the party as usual Six-cylinder 1
Six-cylinder Posted August 30, 2018 Author Posted August 30, 2018 Tuesday while preparing No.2 Visa 17RD for MOT the driver's wind glass dropped down. It turns out the channel that supports the glass and the window winder runs in had rotted away. I asked the headmaster from the Independent Visa Forum if he knew of any and he said you have got one!!! Sure enough the yellow spares car I have had one is great condition. I have had it fitted today and I am hoping it will MOT early next week. egg, Mrs6C, Skizzer and 1 other 4

Six-cylinder Posted August 31, 2018 Author Posted August 31, 2018 This evening was another fix it job, the O/s front indicator on my BMW E30 suddenly stopped working. This evening with the help of Mrs6C we took the bumper off to get the indicator unit out and clean and adjust the contacts to make it work again. Skizzer, RayMK and Burnside 3
Mrs6C Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 ^^^ I think you mean Mrs6C took the bumper off and got the indicator out and put it all back together again while you took pictures? You did clean the bulb contacts and test the electrical connectivity, though! holbeck, RayMK, Skizzer and 2 others 5
Six-cylinder Posted September 4, 2018 Author Posted September 4, 2018 4 out of 5 ain't bad, so far! I collected the C15 yesterday with a fresh MOT, the brakes still feel a bit dead and I might take it back for another go. Anyway for now it stops the MOT rollers going round in the prescribed way. For this weekends Visa Rally I now have two Visas, LNA and C15 ready, just a second 17RD to go! This evening I am taking our Metro to a MG meeting in Pinner (100 mile round trip) to join the shiny MGA, TF etc! How the drive looks today. Zelandeth, egg, Mrs6C and 5 others 8

Six-cylinder Posted September 4, 2018 Author Posted September 4, 2018 This is still a lovely thing to see amongst all that horrid frogtat. It is being British and queuing politely behind all the Citroen's that need an MOT in spite of being wounded with a suspected UJ failure! egg 1

Tadhg Tiogar Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 .... the barn it was in, due for demolition! To be honest, it looks like it won't need any help; it looks like it could fall down by itself.
quicksilver Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 To be honest, it looks like it won't need any help; it looks like it could fall down by itself. Are you talking about the barn or the CX here? mat_the_cat 1
Talbot Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 I'm surprised no-one has said anything about the Ropiest trailer of Evah being used in the rescue effort. It really is the worst piece of Autoshite trailerage. The second picture is brilliant. All I need now is some "Autoshite recovery services" stickers for the rear quarterwindows of the Merc and I'm all set. But it does work. Glad we managed to get the CX moved today! Six-cylinder Posted September 13, 2018 Author Posted September 13, 2018 7 days and nothing to say, in fact this is because I have been so busy I didn’t have time to type! Lots of my time last week was spent organizing the Visa 40th Birthday and the weekend was terrific. 3 x Visas, C15 and LNA all working and thanks to the Silvers for helping me get them to the show using their Maxi as the slave car. E30 has behaved itself and took me to Derby on Monday to join a BMW Club tour of Rolls-Royce aero engines at their training school and the RR heritage Trust. What a fantastic day out for any body who likes engines, vintage right up to date. We had very knowable guides on both sites. Yes RR Ghost may not be a Autoshite candidate valued at 45 million! MGB GT has had a propshaft UJ changed and all the little vibrations have left! My Range Rover has been neglected and when I did want it, it had a flat battery so now on charge, not about to eat a passing car! Mrs6C has found a bush for the Cadillac gear selector so hopefully that will return to the road next week. Mercedes 200TE heater is still stuck on max and I have no idea how to fix it, having changed the control unit and the water valves. DSdriver, Mrs6C, RobT and 6 others 9
RobT Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 I thought you'd been quiet. Glad to see the busyness is all car related!
SierraMikeHotel Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 Just seen that pic in the calendar thread, I thought it must be Talbot! A top chap indeed. Six-cylinder 1
Six-cylinder Posted September 22, 2018 Author Posted September 22, 2018 With the wet weekend I have put all my Visas away in storage and my MGB GT. The MG was at home and had a flat battery in spite of only resting for a few days and unusually it is one of my best cars for holding a charge. It started with a jump and Bucketeer who was helping me noticed when he parked it the speakers were hissing so he checked the ignition was off but the radio was lit but not on. We went to pull the wire out of it and noticed a distinct smell of electrical burning from the radio. It is now out and and still smells so I guess was draining the battery.
Guest Hooli Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 That'd explain it, now you've got the music of a B series to enjoy instead. Six-cylinder and LightBulbFun 2
Six-cylinder Posted September 26, 2018 Author Posted September 26, 2018 Today we took the Honda field bike to a local friend who has agreed to work on it as it stopped running during the Festival of the unexceptional weekend. He was thinking about a project bike when he agreed to look at the Honda and has now bought a 1970 Honda CB175, I should have been quicker to get mine over to him as there is now a queue. Mrs6C Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Van de Pomme has been busy too! After delivering a few dozen bottles of special 'Van de Pomme' branded craft cider to the Visa 40th birthday celebrations, where two other C15s were available for comment, Van de Pomme has settled down to hauling the fruit mill, apple press and other equipment around the various venues for this season's Autumn Apple Days. Last weekend the Buckingham Garden Centre hosted us, so VdP enjoyed a couple of days out in their sunny car park. It's nice to be at the wheel of a C15 again, especially this time of year, where it is evocative of Autumn holidays spent in the villages of rural France... 2cvspecial, HMC, jumpingjehovahs and 6 others 9
richardmorris Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 I have driven one, but it’s not easy pulling out of junctions when you can’t look out of a side window. Mrs6C 1
