They really hold their money too,surprisingly. A bloke round the corner from me has got a red R Line 4.4 V8 and I think it looks great, the only XC90 I've seen that doesn't look like it should be a Kath Kidston special edition.

Yes 300 odd compared to 270bhp, but those in the T6 must be Shetland ponies as they don't feel any quicker than the 185 bhp D5s . Thirstiest car of evah though, Mrs N borrowed her sister's T6 to use on holiday 10 years ago , it was worse than the V8 Disco or Turbo R we left at home .

Thanks all for the input, I hadn't considered the XC90. Just to refine my requirements, I don't want a diesel and aren't too concerned about fuel consumption (hence the appeal of the Murano).

 

I do like driving X5s, but I'm really struggling to get over my negative perception of their owners.

Aye fuck it just get an X5 if that's what you want who cares? Make sure to root out a sport and not an SE as they're much nicer inside etc. You should be able to get a really nice one for your budget as the petrols don't hold their value as well as the diesel one.

Only 340 BHP I'm afraid you'll need to spend another couple of grand for the 450 bhp Turbo.

With petrol down to a quid a litre ,it's only a matter of time ( and a decent 4.5 manual turning up) before Mrs N is parking one of these amongst the Priuses at The Council offices.

I've driven a couple of those chubby porkers and the v6 is shite but the v8 is pretty peppy. I once saw one give birth to a Nissan Juke. FACT!

That's a very fair assessment, DW. However, a bit like the 928, I do believe if you're prepared to stomach the running costs, it's a hell of a lot of car for the money and fits my needs well enough for me to justify owning one. I know the ongoing costs will be heavy, but the 159 has cost me more than its purchase price in repairs over the last 18 months, and while it's a nice car, it's certainly doesn't have the "sparkle" of a Porsche (or big Citroen).

 

I also know there's little scope for DIY repairs on the Cayenne, but with another project taking up a lot of spare time, I'm having to shelve my shite-fettling urges for a wee while anyway.

 

As for my investment skills, I'm typing this while lying in bed looking at my genuine Rolf Harris painting hanging on the opposite wall...And you thought Citroens knew how to depreciate!

Yes most of the energy from the fuel just goes into making noise. It's pretty grim I think it's the vw 3.2v6 given the Cayenne is 80% Toureg. I didn't think much of the interior its very similiar to the interior of the 996, which feels a bit old school and shiny.

 

I wonder if the v8 bears any relation at all to the one in the 928?

My neighbour got an 04' Cayenne before Christmas, it then disappeared for about 3 weeks until last week while they had a porky courtesy car, I haven't been nosey enough to ask but I didn't spot any body damage so I am guessing something went seriously wrong with it.

I suspect a £6k one may be a bit brave...sensible mileages & decent service history seem to start around £8k (around here, anyway). Any older Porker will be a gamble, but you might as well play the odds as best you can.
