The latest update should appeal to our resident bus and coach pervs: not one but two posts reviewing the infamously chaotic Showbus rally held this year at Woburn Abbey.

Part 1 (the chaos): http://rustyoldrubbish.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/shambolic-showbus.html

Part 2 (the exhibits): http://rustyoldrubbish.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/showbus-part-2.html

Enjoyed those. Thanks. What a fiasco it sounds though! As was said, you'd think experience would count for something...

Good write-up, I had a vague memory of such a thing but even seeing the pictures on the Stony threads I still didn't click what it was...Makes a nice change to learn something interesting on t'internet!

I wondered what that Fiesta was when I saw the photos. Nice write up of a very interesting, and unique car

It's now been a year since I started the blog and I've celebrated by writing about everyone's favourite veteran car, the infamous Horsey Horseless. I honestly thought this had been made up by a shiter so I was quite surprised when I googled it and actually got some results. Incidentally, there are no fewer than 153 results for "Horsey Horseless" when searching this site!

Enjoyed reading that, an interesting article. I've always wondered if it was a real car.

Interesting story!

Apart from Mercedes, Citroen were offering diesel autos on the CX and BX.  Always seemed a sensible arrangement to me, especially when matched to turbo diesels with their ample torque.

Posted

Lots of Japanese import autos in the early nineties with diesel motors, like Liteace, Hiace, Townace amongst others, but them oriental chappies were always up to something interesting :-D

That car is the ultimate in shite. Must have grail like status

Posted

Interesting car, I'd like to have a go in it. Article is ok but the facts vs. flam ratio is a bit unfavourable

Posted

It wasn't only Mercedes selling diesel autos then. Many of the 604 turbo diesels on the continent and USA were automatics, and the 505 diesel auto was common even in the UK in the late 80s.

Posted

Volvo diesel cars were available with automatic gearboxes from the early-mid 1980s but it was an unusual combination in cheaper cars.

Interesting to hear more about it, I always thought Rover missed a trick not offering their diesels with automatic transmissions, especially with their aged target market.

birmingham airport ran automatic di transhits on car park shuttle duty in the 90's

I know a previous owner of this car. He made the mistake of taking it to the BMC BL rally, where everyone told him it couldn't possibly be what he said it was. He rather lost faith with the crowd after that.

Back in 1996/7 I owned an ex gas board astramax van fitted with a 1600 non turbo diesel and a 3 speed auto box, drove ok if a bit slow, never saw any more autos but im sure it wasn't the only one.

Something new today, the ultimate in coach shite. You may never have heard of Quest 80 but they had it all: dubious mechanical design, hideous unappealing bodywork, chronic reliability issues, a tendency to go up in flames and an enigma of some extra chassis that appeared out of nowhere. Read all about them here: http://rustyoldrubbish.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/a-futile-quest.html

Two new entries while the forum was down, following the amazing spectacle that was Shitefest.

The holy grey grille: http://rustyoldrubbish.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/the-holy-grey-grille.html

Lovely write up there.

I will honestly never ever forget driving that car out of London. I was partly terrified and partly guilty for removing part of London's fabric.

It IS in good hands, and I have no doubt that it'll be around for a very very long time yet.

I've just been outside tinkering with it! Such a brilliantly simple car to work on, I've become quite attached to it and will be sad when it moves on to its next custodian.
