Thats cracking, satin red too. I miss my old 2.0 pez a lot, went flipping great. I had to do the driplinks on mine when I got it, 15 quid a pair and buzzed the old ones off with a grinder. Just as well you live too far away from me. Also, I need to keep my 2 ton to get the rear axle done on thw Corsa in 2 weeks.

Thanks for saying the exact colour name, was racking my brain trying to think what it was and kept coming back to "Rubens red". Suits the SRi really well, don't see many that colour.

 

I almost bought an 02 plate 1.8 SRi. SRi 130? In that dark green they came in for £2995 from the local Renner dealer in 2008, decided against it because it was a 5 door hatch and I wanted the 4 door saloon, still regret not buying it now because it was MINT.

 

Glad this isnt for sale close to me either or I'd have your hand off at 200 sovs!!

Under rated cars IMO, although I have an irrational dislike of the hatchbacks and much prefer the saloon.

 

If you ever find a V6 SRi saloon in metallic green -Rio Verde I think? I would be interested. I had one years back and would love another.

Ah, thanks, looks like the one I was looking at would likely have been the Z18XE then, same engine as the 05 Astra H I later had, quite a good unit, decent mpg from a big petrol engine, went quite well, fairly reliable as well, was doing the common Vauxhall trick of using oil though but oddly garages couldn't find any leaks and said the 1.8 didn't suffer the 1.6s common piston rings or valve stem seals causing it to burn oil, tax was pricey too, £115.50 for 6 months but I'd have another with that engine no bother.

They go very well - my mate was overtaken by a 600 sports bike on the A562 going into Widnes.

 

Vectra was spooled up to 120 mph and bike was reeled in by Bush Boake Allen ( for those who know the area).

 

No doubt bike rider had his steed back to carnells wanting to know why a shitty vectra had gobbled him up.

Can't be too bad... i used to drive a zafira for a previous employer... it had 530k on the clock!!! Scruffy old dog it was too... and it used to carry passengers daily.

They are dead easy to work on as well. My mate dropped the rear subframe on mine on the drive in 10 mins or so to replace a suspension control arm. I also upgraded a lot of bits like the interior from higher specced models, again, very straightforward. As a 2.0, mine was spot on, and not bad on fuel either.

I wouldn't have a clue to be honest. It's got an oil leak I'm told, but the last MOT had an advisory for the same, so at the moment I'm not too arsed. All the pixels seem to be pixellating as well, bloody rare for ones of these and the mileage lights up, which about 97.6% of them usually don't.

Back in the day I had a V6 SRi from new - P reg. Superb car and would have one again. Fast, refined, comfortable, economical and reliable for the 50k miles that I had it. Apart from the naff image - people used to feel sorry for me driving a Vectra - steering is the only downside. Not as much feel as the 406 or a Focus. I see that P904DPB is still MOT'd but the tax is due.

What sends these to the scrappies are (IMO) the fact they're in and hopefully just emerging from that 'desperate' image where they're unpopular so unwanted. Any fair-middling repair bill is enough to see one off as a rule.

Sensors/EGR/throttle bodies/IACV etc are common fails, as is the image I suppose.

Oh, they do have that wanky slave-cylinder-in-gearbox arrangement which is daft.

 

I still think if there was ever one car that truly almost created the expression 'badge snob' it was the Vectra. Everyone's different but I find usually people who've owned or driven one long term-ish actually if not love them certainly come to terms with them and don't mind them at all.

the 2.2 eats timing chains, and if the head gasket goes, the engines dead due to the block and head being made from metal beads superheated and formed. same if a thread strips.......

Even though I owned a few Vectra-B's back when they were current, I never really appreciated the styling. I think they look great now though- sharp design and good proportions!

 

They had issues early on, mainly gear box failures and eml sensor glitches. However, once these were sorted (which they were), it was a good car. By then however, the damage was done, the media sharpened their claws and the reputation was poor. 2.2s did have problems but anything that has lasted 'till now is probably ok..

 

I had a V6 in 'Arctic' trim. It looked totally plain, like a 1.6LS but went like hell & was also economical- I loved it!

Just been to see another popular Vauxhall with a problem. The main problem I can't get to because the battery is flat, as is one of the tyres. All the while the vendor is telling me how great the car was, differing prices are banded about and he's expecting me to Beth Twiddle* about bring a spare battery and changing the wheel etc when I might not even want the car!

2.2 eating chains=MYTH. Its poor maintenance that causes the oil jet to block up and starce the chain.

 

Billy is dead right about a middling repair bill sending these to the scrapper. Mine was otherwise spot on but the steering rack shat its breeks big time. Only a hindred quid part but the subframe has to come down a bit to change it out so it was a bill too far*. Just managed to get the noisy rear bushes all replaced and had recently had new front arms too.

 

Nothing too much goes wrong really. Watch for anything that requires a subframe move for repair. Rear suspension bushes can get noisy but go on forever. Petrol tanks can get rusty and various engine sensors can fail but are cheap and easy to replace. Most 2.0 engines leak oil, just leave it unless bad. The hatchbacks boot can get wet and if you dont do your homework then you'll be chasing the leak forever. Theres a seam at the end of the roof gutter that cracks and a simple bit of tigerseal sorts it. Same for rear side windows, they bolt in though. Id love another one someday.

Fastest I've ever been was in a V6 GSI years ago. I can testify they are really quick... In a straight line. The guy who had it got banned shortly after, which came as little surprise.

 

I think the reason they get binned off is the awful image they have, go round any severely depressed area and they are full of them. Which is probably a bit unfair as for a few hundred quid they aren't bad for the money. It's accepted they're a bit of an also ran in comparison to Passat or a mondeo or whatever but I doubt they are as bad as what people would have you believe.
