First car I drove after passing my test was a CF2 which was quite a jump from the rover metro, the bastard builders I worked for as an apprentice all fucked off and deliberately left me to drive it back from Bicester to Kettering for a laugh which was an eye opener, mainly for other road users.

Got a soft spot for Astramax vans as well, being given one of those for 3 months as an apprentice, which I drove with all the responsibility a 17 year old can muster for a company vehicle, they could bloody shift though, especially with 6 mates in the back on a lads weekend to Blackpool.

You could hear Bedford commercials rusting though.

That milf  is loading  a canabis plant .. and a Triffid is trying to get out

That won't fit either. Too tall. The grocer is about to overload the Rascal but there is nothing in the big CF but gas! They've all got the wrong van.

Astramax's were the fastest van of all time Fact!

They must have found a mini-Arkwright to stand next to that Rascal, surely they're not that tall.

Thanks for the share!

Used to occasionally use a 1.6 petrol Astramax that was a colleagues company 'car' (only £500 per year off his tax allowance he used to tell me) in the 90's, it was a bloody great piece of kit, very quick, bulletproof, nice to drive and big enough to even get motorbikes in the back. Shame they don't have anything as good now.

Wouldn't mind a decent one as a hack but suspect they are mostly dead now.

Also, don't know if it was an urban myth or just some old BS but I heard from a few sources that the Midi was very prone to rolling over (presumably in comparision to the stock Transit of the time)? Can't recall ever driving one so no personal experience of how they handled.

My ultimate van would be a cf2 with the 2.2dti engine and box from an omega in it.

Could be cos dad bought one brand new in 1982 and I spent my summer holidays going to car auctions in it . His had the 2.3 na diesel and 4 SPD box tho. In fact I think it was a mk2 rather than a cf2

CF's were well loved by builders as they were much wider than a Ford Transvestite and allowed them to get a wide bit of board in the back.

Rascals were called Bedford Bastards by a couple of mechanics at City Motors as they could be a right bitch to work on.

Thanks for sharing these. This pic reminds me of a Super Carry pick up a mate had many years back. a great little tool for tip runs, fun to drive (for short distances...) and still the only vehicle I've been publicly laughed at in. He made the mistake of leaving it outside work one night...

My first experience of a commercial was a CF, it had the slant four 2.3 in and was a lot of fun.

I hired it for a photo shoot, it was a used as a changing room for the lingerie models...

That Astramax looks great, smart looker that.

Did they ever sell the earlier Bedford KB Pick-up here????...I've seen pictures of it all badged up as a Bedford, but I don't remember ever seeing one. I Remember seeing those in the brochure though...

I remember the cf with the 2.3 slant 4 was actually quite a pokey thing, they'd run rings around transits in the early 70s.

Bedford midi..I had 2. A petrol and a diesel. Both shit. Good for doing stoppies/nose wheelies though and column change is a much more sensible arrangement in a 3 seater cab.
