Hmm. Driving past a used car bomb site yesterday.

2005 118d BMW £4495. It's a ten year old diesel hatchback.

2005 Golf TDi £4295. It's another ten year old diesel hatchback.

2003 Mini Cooper £3295. WTF? It's a soon to be 12 year old hatchback built in an old BL factory. I can hear the rattling trim and seat runners from here.

Whilst there is an abundance of OMGVFM metal about for peanuts, there appears to be an equal abundance of halfwits willing to buy a car for what is realistically twice its actual value. A 2003 Mini is a shitty old hatchback worth £1200 tops.

Agreed? Or not?

I think if you had a supply of 03 minis for £1200 you would make a flippin packet

But who in their right frame buys these turds for 3 and a bit grand?

And therein lies the issue - define "right frame of mind"?

The british public don't have a right frame of mind - only us posting on here.

Just checked Autotrader.......number of "on the road" Minis for less than £1200..................one.

Think you know the answer, peeps who value perceived style over substance or we'd all be driving ZX diesels.

All a question of perceived value. The typical British retard will squander money on what the media tells them is desirable; not prudently purchase that which has intrinsic merit.

There's a number of style-over-substance cars I really like.  I can't justify the asking price of any of them.

Anything with a scene tax is style over substance, perhaps?

Just for a bit of fun...

2005 118d BMW £7,551

2005 Golf TDi £7,947

2003 Mini Cooper £7,155

Pfft, it's not like I'd want any of them anyway.

Can't see what's wrong with someone buying that for 3 grand if they want to. The same people that spend £3k on that will look at Vulgalour spending weeks repairing an old Austin Princess and think he is mad when he could simply spend £3k on a Bini instead and probably have less hassle.

In the words of Ten City, 'Different Strokes for Different folks, whatever makes you happppppiiieeeeeee'

However, what I do not agree with is that I bet the places selling these are also 'We guarantee car credit' places. The only people that will pay all that for a car when they can get a similar one down the road for £2k are probably the ones that don't have £2k so will pay £3k on a 20% interest rate for it.

Its a shame that these people are able to do this.

The FCA makes sure that I can't sell dodgy protection policies that people cannot afford but still lets people sell guaranteed car credit on a product with no value.

There is an Audi a3 for sale near me for 6 grand. 56 plate . god loves a trier. That's not even a dealer just a bit of paper in the window on a rough housing estate .

I guess the same could be said for anyone wanting to pay £7000+ for a rusty automatic Nissan Micra.

Blimey is that what they are going for now??? My girlfriend is laughing then, she drives a Figaro and she didn't pay anything like that for a very tidy one with 45k and FSH.  8)

If you put a BMW badge on a dollop of dogshit you could sell it for loads. Some would argue that's exactly what Bavarian Motor Works has been doing for some time...

I'm a fucking trendsetter.

Was queuing on the bypass earlier, thinking my engine sounds loud tonight, and needs an oil change quite soon. Then I looked and a 12 plate Audi was sat next to me, drowning out my own clatter...

If you think your prices are high, just try living here on the far side.

'95 Corsa  @20,000 miles bought in UK 500 pounds 18 months ago.

same here today @ 2300 pounds.

etc.

It is because they are 'premium', which is what all the media, including the car magazines, tell people to buy now.

I'm gonna say it. The mini cooper s is a good car. Goes like fuck, super charger whines like toddler who's just dropped their ice cream in a pile of horse shit and does about 12mpg.

I'll tell you are utter pisstakers - Available Car.com.  Take any car they have and you'll find a better spec one cheaper at a main dealers. They obviously target mongs with a shit credit rating.

Yup, and the S is worth less than a well specced Cooper because of the insurance and MPG factors - just like with the original Cooper S. No bugger could afford to insure one.

Yeah, but the Dutch get a €30,000 tax refund and a night with Máxima, if they buy a car older than 30 years.

Only yesterday I was making this point to Mrs straight6 as we were waiting at some traffic lights next to a bunting clad used car sales lot with quite a few of the Bini things on offer at what seemed like ridiculously high prices. We both drove one last year for the first time and thought it was awful, still there must be plenty of mugs out there willing to pay over 3 grand for an example over 10 years old.....

So Wladimir bought that Diesel Tagora? He can certainly do with some love..

Yes go like fuck, but my mates three new bought  bastards all had engine work under warranty several times each, mainly timing chains but valve gear too, one new supercharger under warranty, the last bastard BMW ended up exchanging for another new car cos they couldn't fix the bloody rattles.

Yes i've told him he needs help, one mistake i could understand, twice he needs his bumps read, but three times?.
