are you sure there is no jack and that it isn't in a cunning hiding place

Most shite cars I buy have no jacks.  WTF do people do with them?

There is a space for the jack and that space is empty.

I have got the space saver, shitty wheel brace and towing eye, nowt else.

The mini toolkit I brought, which consists of socket set, gaffer tape and cable ties is of no use today.

I think some Alfa's ,like 155's may use the same mounting, bore and offset wheels. Not ideal but may help temporarily. Is petrol shot a good sign?

Does maintaining thread silence mean he's driving? Or chucked his phone in a temper?

I've never checked the wheel nuts on a car I've just bought, but having seen this and beko's wheel loss incident I think I will from here on.

Home ... under my own power.

12 hours since I left for what should have been a straightforward collection.

Ok, the car, ignoring the loss of wheel bolts, it's got a few faults.

Currently not working:

Speedo

Thermostat, the car stayed at 70C all the way home, in traffic it got to 90C, so I'll take this to mean gauge and fan are ok, stat not.

Other trivial shit.

The car is very hesitant and doesn't seem to run properly most of the time. I'll put this down to not being used much in the last few years (last taxed 2011) stale petrol and probably running rich with the u/s thermostat. Unfortunately with a few missing wheel nuts I wasn't comfortable giving it a proper Italian tune up, also with the running temp being low I wasn't sure how much good it would do.

To Do:

Cambelt & water pump ... only 7k (plus broken speedo) since belt was done, but also 7 years

Thermostat, to be done with the above.

Filters & oil change ... check plugs & leads.

Once the above are done hopefully it'll be running better.

On the plus side, it sounds awesome, and on the odd occasion I did depress the loud pedal (and it fired properly) it went very well, fingers crossed it is just in need of a bloody good service.

Ps. Hairnet, yes I was just outside Hollingworth.

Phew. Glad you made it. It really does highlight the fact that wheel nuts coming loose does often give plenty of notice, but yes, things do get worse very quickly. My old Maverick did it at least twice...

Cheers for all the comments guys.

At present I can't see any damage to the car from the loss of bolts, the wheel moving on the hub occurred with just one loose bolt in, so the wheel centre (in the dark by the side of the road) appeared ok.

At least you got pulled over before you lost the wheel all together . Hopefully it'll just need a service and some fettling.

Also I'm with breadvan in the jacks why are they getting removed? I've bought so many cars with missing jacks is there a we buy any jacks website I don't know about?

Inauspicious start, but I hope things get better for you Chris as this looks a right corker.

Are you going to contact the seller and tell him what a fuckwit he is for leaving off the nuts?

They're Dedra hatchbacks essentially. Check and clean earth strap on engine as they're notorious for causing running problems. Wheels should be Tipo spec. Check floor to sill joint for corrosion. Other than that, ENJOY!

Jacks are like spare keys. For some inexplicable reason, I think previous owners must just keep them 'in case they ever need them'

Or, in my case, if I don't like the buyer.

Yes it is based on the Tipo platform and being this spec it should share quite a few parts with the Fiat Coupe 16VT, fingers crossed the speedo cable is one of them.

The switch gear, heater controls etc. are identical to an Alfa 155 (also Tipo platform) which I find handle very well. I do have a front upper strut brace for an Alfa 155 I never fitted to mine, which I'm hoping should fit this.

Cheers for the tip on the earth strap, I'll check it in the morning.

Wheel troubles aside I have to say that's a gorgeous looking car! What engine does it have?

The engine is the 2l 16V turbo ... same as Delta Integrale, late Themas, Alfa 155 Q4 and early Fiat Coupe.

So a real wolf in sheep's clothing then! Superb! I bet that will be great fun once you've worked your magic on it.

I reckon if you ever come to sell this, Mr & Mrs Bickle will be "on it like a bonnet".

Glad you made it back in one piece!

Wibbly steering is horrible-especially when it is lack of wheelbolt related.

Looks a cool car with just a couple of trivial things to sort.Look forward to seeing it in january!

Sure I have a water pump for this, was sent in error and never collected.

I'll check when I am up at the lock up

In answer to your original post, yes you should. I'm now going to read the thread from the start to see if you did. Nice chod btw, glad you made it back ok.

I'll try to get some more pics over the weekend G., but at present I'm working in Scotlandshire, so I am about 300 miles away from the yellow peril
