SambaS Posted April 3, 2015 Author Posted April 3, 2015 (edited) The gearchange is still atrocious and needs adjusting, the exhaust is trying to fall off, the tracking is out, and bits of body filler, huge bits, keep dropping off! But my heart is warming to this car. Edited April 3, 2015 by SambaS brickwall, Essex V6, inconsistant and 10 others 13
Pillock Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 Benji has the sort of garage contents that make my pants tight. I read it as friendly advice on how shite is too shite to drive on the road... But really glad to see the Alpine is out and about! tooSavvy and Skizzer 2
Skizzer Posted April 3, 2015 Posted April 3, 2015 +1 to everything Pillock just said. Great work getting this to MOT standard! tooSavvy 1

I was chatting to a chap yesterday about him. He had sold him a 22k Citroen AX a few weeks ago which is probably having £5k worth of work on it as we speak, which will make it exactly £25 more valuable than when he bought it. He does take the letter of the law quite seriously but then again he is a policeman, so can see where he is coming from. I am a pensions consultant and am horrified that you lot are spending money on all these shit cars when you could be investing them on a happy retirement. saucedoctor 1

SambaS Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 Gear change fixed at the weekend by Simcat, needed what the manual called an eccentric adjusting on the base of the gearstick. Have some parts to fit at some point: front pads, shock bushes, and some trim stuff to do. Also Simcat found some gray chequers material from a Horizon to retrim my seats. Have to admit, much prefer driving this to the Monza! Simcat and steve_earwig 2
Simcat Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 This so called 'repair' has got to go.... Lacquer Peel, Asimo and SambaS 3
Simcat Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 So, grinder in hand it was off in about 5 minutes, only really attached at rear pillar, tenuously around filler aperture and C pillar. Bodging of the highest order - done when the car was only two years old! The remaining piece of the original quarter (arch dog leg) was carefully removed - as another Alpine of this parish is in dire need... worldofceri, Skizzer, Semi-C and 6 others 9
Simcat Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Now on a roll, thought may as well remove the outer half of the wheelhouse,, which had been beaten roughly back into shape with a brick and a sledge hammer by the look of it. Talbotman, Grundig, Vince70 and 5 others 8
Simcat Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 A NOS panel was removed from the Talbot vault and offered along side, about 20 minutes of fettling got it back into decent enough shape to be used as a decent repair panel. Vince70, steve_earwig, anonymous user and 5 others 8
SambaS Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 Ahh so that's where the seatbelt mounting plate is meant to be! Simcat 1
Simcat Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 There we have it - a nice selection of 'genuine parts' to fit to the LE, if something solid can be found to attach them to... watch this space! chaseracer, Asimo, Dick Cheeseburger and 3 others 6
Simcat Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Cinnamon is now back in store, but it's turn will come! mouseflakes, worldofceri, Essex V6 and 9 others 12
SambaS Posted June 20, 2015 Author Posted June 20, 2015 As promised Alpine LE is getting some fettling.. I'll let the pictures do the talking. Simcat Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 As my reputation is at stake here, I should point out, that as assistant, the black sacks came OUT of that driver's door - and were not going in! anonymous user, oldcars, chaseracer and 3 others 6

vulgalour Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Best of all, there will be a magical moment where the rusty bits are replaced with metal and it will still look dreadful because of all the different colours. cms206 1

stillOrange Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 SambaS, I sent you a private message some time ago regarding some Lada parts. Did you get it?

Dick Cheeseburger Posted June 21, 2015 Posted June 21, 2015 I'm really enjoying this thread. I'm not sure which car I have the greatest admiration for - cinnamon for being so time warp mint*, the LE for surviving a holocaust of bodges, or the white one for not being instantly thrown around a primate oval. What's the future for the white one - doer upper or spares car? Orsomes work all round.
