I've tried desperately hard to forget i owned one of those for a while. 1993 vauxhall midi 2.4td van with column change. Drove ok, but GOD IT WAS NOISY. Anything above 60mph resulted in conversation that had to be shouted and the column change was soo vague that it was pot luck whether you hit 2nd or 4th gear. Having 250k on it probably didnt help.

I love forward control and the way it felt when you swung wildly around corners. Nissan Urvan driving positions always felt low to me, I imagine the Midi felt similar.

Actually GM have a long and illustrious history with this sort of thing. Here we have a Pontiac 6000 with a huge zebra finch face. I dont think it was marketed in Europe.

It appears that there is a new Suzuki Baleno.

 

 

I don't recall ever having seen one on the road.  It does seem a tad overpriced to me, especially by Suzuki standards - the base 1.0 turbo model is £13K.  You could get two (similarly sized) Dacia Sandero Accesses for that and still have a grand left over to spend on coke and hookers.

I've always fancied getting a second gen Impreza WRX-STi and seeing how much it't cost to import the front end of the Saab 92 over (lights, grill, bumper, etc), just because having a near 300Hp AWD Saab would be cool.

...I think ive seen the later generation ones in car parks or whatever, but was too dis'interested, cause it was a modern... this 05 shape, I don't think ive ever seen, or knew existed, but stumbled upon while paroozin adverts for cars under €500...

CAR magazine slated it so badly they tried to give it no stars.   A blu tacked in CD player was mentioned.  The Peugeot diesel technology was referred to as archaeology.   Used to see a silver one around Kelso but that's the only one.

I think the 600 may have been a kind of spin-off from the Saab/Fiat "Type 4" collaboration that resulted in the Saab 9000 and associated Fiat/Lancia/Alfa models.

Toyota's answer to the Hummer, powered by a 4.1 Inline-4 turbo diesel.

Not made to 'look the part', it actually it's an out & out off roader. Used by the Japanese Army Self Defense Force for everything from hauling troops about to having Anti-Air guns mounted on the back! 

Did sell small amounts to the public, but not many in part thanks to the tax you'd pay due to the size of the thing.

I've seen a couple of their other micro vans around, you can get campers and 4wd if you want. Fulfilling the gap in the market left by the Suzuki super carry and Bedford rascal.

Chevy Tracker. Badge engineered and "face lifted" Vitara. You'd think the country that gave the world the Willys Jeep wouldn't have any problems making a medium SUV but apparently not. I saw one in Sainsbury's on Irish plates. From Google pics it looks like later models are Vauxhall Mokka based (I think).
