Daihatsu Disaster - Operation OMGHGF successfully completed

Saving a fellow Daihatsu is and can only be a good thing... I would of loved this myself but the mighty Move takes up that spot on my drive as my daily hack....

Ooooh, I love your mighty Move with the daft spoiler. It's a bader, too, right?

Do those later ones shift by themselves, or is it still DIYmatic?

I was Daihatsu triple powered before in my life, in form of a 78 or so Cuore.

That one had Daimatic, too, and I had to rebuild the gearbox.

Daimatic sounds like a Welsh robot.

Daimatic sounds like something you get from eating too many Dime**  bars.

**so I live in the past, you can't judge me here!

OH DEAR ....that Charade NEVER let me down, in the seven years I used it, the cambelt was replaced as a matter of course down here in Cornwall by Fraddam motors, you will see the old one behind the passenger seat along with its box and the idler, so the "new" belt can't be more than a few years old.  so sorry you have had a problem Christian.

HOWEVER...   an identical Maroon one has been spotted running near Bournemouth very recently, so perhaps that's your answer  -  one each !!!   (ask Dugong)

Yeah, I could do with a second one for my other foot...

I saw the old cambelt under the seat. But I'll change it anyway.

No point reusing the one that's in it, when you have it all apart anyway.

Don't be sorry. Headgaskets blow. It's not your fault.

Anyway, the head was removed last weekend.

Meanwhile the gasket set and a new cambelt have arrived, but the head is still away for being skimmed.

If the head is not finished by tomorrow afternoon, reassembly will be delayed for another week, since this daft switch between Vladivostok and Eritrea timezone twice a year,

dictated by your friendly fascist Brussels regime, only allows me to work on the car on weekends.

Don't blame Brussels for fiddling with the clocks, was happening long before the EEC happened (they just insist we all change them on the same day)

Well, it's a tad late for blaming William Willett, don't you think?

Hence I prefer to blame the self established unelected totalitarian 4th Reich government that currently micro manages my life.

Believe it or not, someone just rang the doorbell and asked whether the car is for sale.

When I said I'm currently fixing the head gasket, he gave me his business card and asked me to call him when it's finished.

I may be barking up the wrong tree but it looks from here as if someone has cut a cylinder off the end of you engine.... this may account for your lack of power and OMGHGF  :-P

Edit Damn beaten to it...

Three cylinders is best number of cylinders.

Only in combination with two strokes, I'm afraid.

Veterinarian.

Looks like it's been leaking coolant for quite a while,

judging by the rust stains on the gearbox.

Love the 3 cylinder thrum from these engines though.

Hope it all goes back together easily for you JM.

I don't know. When I came to the car, it wasn't running anymore and failed to start.

The culprit is a metal pipe conducting coolant, running alongside the block between the engine and eggzorst fannymould.

It has brazed on ramifications, which must have been leaking, thus it lost coolant and overheated.

Each and every one snapped when I tried to pull the rubber hoses off. My tame mechanic is now condemned to braze it all back together.

You're half right  :)

Today, the cylinder head went back onto the engine, after being skimmed and having received a complete valve job.

Timing belt is on, no big drama, and inlet and exhaust manifolds fannymoulds are back in place as well.

Lots of little things left to do.

Where do all these pipes and wires go?
