Model cars

I was visiting my Mum yesterday and she had dug out all my old model cars for my son to play with.

He played with a few but i had to keep a few back as they were mint and boxed!

Took them home, photos are on my sons play mat, not mine honest!

Not sure if of interest or not but some cool stuff in there

Dad also had a mini copy of Which Car December 1991, reviews of Dacia Duster, BX, Nissan Patrol LWB etc, should be a good read.

I had that police Astra and the 205 as a kid as well :-)

I trashed my father's toy cars as a kid.  I'm talking just post war Dinky cars.  I have always wished they hadn't given them to me at least until I was a bit older.

Thats it, my son will get them just when he is a bit older.

Also found a 2.3 Merc 190e that's not in the photos.

plus, I used to love the cars that came with a little sheet of transfers for you to put on :)

I had one of these, always thought it a strange towing combo?? the speedboat had an elastic band to hold it on the trailer

Also had the Mercedes-Benz & caravan set which is a more plausible tow car

Oooh I had that caravan! Had a little retractable awning that came out of the side, and a little vase of flowers inside on the table. For some reason I thought it was sold new with a Range Rover.

I'm ashamed to admit I trashed a lot of my dad's old toy cars as a child as well. I was always more interested in the older toy cars so played with the Dinky, Corgi and Matchbox toys a lot more than I played with the occasional cheap 1990's shit I was given. Used to love going to boot sales and buying Matchbox Cortinas and Corgi Matra Ranchos for 20p or so.

I had that Mercedes-Benz mit Wohnwagen set, but my 240D was metallic brown :)

For the record, my favourite Corgi model car of the early 1980s was the Opel Senator 'A' they did.

I still have a box load of mine too which our nephew currently enjoys (and our sons will too when they get a bit older) although they are all in 'well used' condition.

I just love the fact that most of the cars in the toy box they'll probably never see in real life - how to secretly indoctrinate your kids into the ways of Autoshite.

I turfed all of my 70s/80s toy motors in the direction of Gaffer_Norbert's nipper last time I moved house. Apparently his favourite is the orange Volvo 200 estate. The effect that this shite indoctrination has had is remarkable - When his dad's T-reg Omega was sold for a newer car the other week he refused to leave the Vauxhall for ages. He also much prefers his dad's 205 GRD to the 730d it now shares a drive with.

If Carlsberg made towcar's, that's possibly the worst towcar in the world lol

My son loves the old stuff more, he has a old Nova he loves playing with and a old MK4 Fiesta complete with tatty back arches.

Been trying to get him Reliant but no joy yet

My Corgi Matra Rancho came with a trailer & 2 speedway bikes. Also had a Blue Triumph Acclaim with wing mirror controlled steering. Had the caravan too but I think it came with Rover SD1 tow car.

Would love a Acclaim, Think my Rancho came with a tralier but cant find it :(

I found an acclaim but the mirrors had been chewed off, the windscreen was cracked, scratched to heck and he wanted a fiver for it.

The driving school one I had was an Austin Cambridge, it had a steerin wheel on the roof that when you turned it, it steered the front wheels - also it had 'L' plates front & rear  :-)

I have several of that Cambridge, including one I've had from new that's been much-abused.  It's finally ended up painted grey to match the A60 we had in 1975 after the Cortina, and which therefore was the second car I ever drove (213 FUY).  I also have a playworn Maestro which is going to get a coating of Moonraker Blue to match mine...

... I never had one but I'm sure there was also a VW Beetle version too ??

Yep Corgi did do a driving school VW Beetle

Posted

Three odd choices for school cars, I would have thought!  Corgi can't even claim they were just using castings they had, as the A60 and Acclaim were never issued in any other form.  Beetle was, but I wonder how many schools outside Germany used them...

Corgi did have an A40, which would have made more sense, and later a Metro; and of course the Mini would have been more widely used than the Beetle.  Moving in mysterious ways!
