I've had a look through some past copies of Cosmopolitan, can't find anything like "How much does your fellah fancy you?  Find out by counting the number of Reliant engines he's given you!"

Are you absolutely sure about this idea, Mr_Bo11?

Well the date is happening next weekend. Must admit i have never given a lass a 'full engine' on a first date before as its not generally my style.

Do you usually start off with just the head on a first date? - No need to rush in with the big-end, "the best things come to those who wait" ;)

Seriously Boll, you're mental but in a good way...

You have a very rare engine there, one where the head is actually detachable from the block, last one I had to change took 6 days and an oxy torch...

I had big plans to spend today cleaning this up, freeing it off and reassembling it into somthing that looked like an engine. Woke up with a banging headache and have spent the day chundering. f***ing brilliant innit. See you later saturday.

I think I'd know SWMBO about three months when I had her lifting a VW TDI engine for me. ASV, engine code pervs. Chicks dig engines.

Spent a couple of hours on this today

Basically reassembled it (without a head gasket) and got it turning over smoothly with the valves operating and that, cleaned up the sump and valvegear and whatnot and stuck them on. Shame theres no rocker cover but hey ho its still a good effort. I can pick it up and chuck it about no problem so all my criteria are met for a total of £15. Cheers!

I think i must have spent a 1/4 of my life staring at one of these, arms contorted, eyes squinting, trying to change no4 spark plug or set number 7 tappet (7 is harder than 8 for some reason) in a cramped, roughly finished, oil soaked engine "bay" lol

When is the date again ?

As i can try dig out the rocker cover, and get it over to you before Suck, Squeeze, Bang and Blow.

Yo!!!!

For information, the reliant engine was a MASSIVE SUCCESS as was the whole date which ended up lasting almost 4 days instead of 1 evening

We had a proper Rex Garrod-style practical lesson on how engines work!! I think some of the bits are gonna get cleaned up and drawn/photographed and the block is gonna have a new life as somewhere to grow some parsley!!!

Brilliant!!! Cheers all

Jesus Christ, man!  You must be walking like John Wayne after 4 days of "a date"

Some say it with flowers, but real men say it with a small 4 cylinder engine from a 3 wheeled car.  Imagine what would have happened if you got her a 6 cylinder engine from a 4 wheeled car.

You da boss!

For date two will you bring her the gift of a Rover with a suspect head gasket for you to both play with?

Yo!!! The reliant engine was a great success so now I am thinking about the next date. Has anybody got a semi-serviceable turbo knocking about?? Not too fussed what its off. In fact ideally I would like a wastegate AND a VNT turbo if I could find a couple cheap.

If you're not fussy about what you want I'd check ebay for cheap turbos's.

I've bought a few badly listed ones for the start price, 99p etc.

Posted

I reckon you should continue with Reliant bits... Bring her a gearbox next, then a rear axle...

She will soon realise that, as long as she continues seeing you, she will eventually be able to build her own Rialto !!!

Is there much to see with a turbo and wastegate?  You might also consider a progressive twin choke carb, or vacuum advance distributor if you want to show her no mercy.

I don't think I could explain the 'magic' that happens in a shitty 80's European of japanese carb, they are a mass of tubes pipes valves and flaps!!! Can explain an SU no probs though. I think I could get a good story out of a WG turbo alright.

I have never known a woman that the way to her pants was via the workings of the internal combustion engine :)

Blimey Boll, you've a lot to learn - I suspect a knackered Garrett wasn't what she had in mind when she suggested a blow job...
