Lacquer Peel Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 They are great on veg and dead simple mechanically, that's about all they've got going for them to be honest, shame Nissan couldn't be arsed fitting a TD to European ones.
Cavcraft Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 my missis is 5' 4" and its never bothered her. You're better off with small ones as you can not only balance cups of tea on their head, but you can hide your wallet, car keys and bongo mags on high shelves too and they can't reach them. robinmasters, Twiggy, Vince70 and 1 other 4
PiperCub Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 Galaxies used to be very popular taxis around here some years back and seemed to have no trouble clocking up 300K so wouldn't be too worried about the milage myself, esp at four ton.
stuboy Posted October 5, 2014 Posted October 5, 2014 one of the ex's bought one and was auto too, she was convinced it would great on mpg..oppsThe only way I could be convinced to have a Sharan/Galaxy/Alhambra is if it had the VR6 engine in it. Yes you read that right, they actually put VW's VR6 engine in them. MIND. BLOWN.
cort16 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 This one is for sale near me for £450 with MOT until June, cpl seats torn but has never let me down it also needs a strut mount bearing Sounds like the bus I went to inverness on
dollywobbler Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Was it you who asked your mum if the chap running through the downpour into the paper shop was running from the awful wiper sweep of his new XJ40? When you were 6! Yes. That was me. I remember William Woollard complaining about the Mk2 Golf's 'wrong' wipers too. They got changed at the facelift. Note that the red Galaxy above has the 'recall' wiper mod.
Lankytim Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 I'm still on this whole Galaxy lark. Apart from badges, whats the difference between the Ford, VW and Seat versions?

Lankytim Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 Tbh, at this level im gonna be buying on condition and length of MOT than the badge!
beko1987 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Dad had a v ref sharan derv as a company car when I was 11 till 15ish. Was comfy in the back, went to France for a few years on the trot and I think it was quite reliable Best bit was when he would take the centre seats out and we could sit right at the back with ample legroom... He did miss it for a few years iirc
Micrashed Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 It wasn't height that was the issue. It was the fact that it made A pillar about a foot thicker due to unwiped areas. It bothers me more than the missus because the "unwiped" area is fatter at the top than the bottom. Im sure they could be swapped over just like the BX and ZX wipers can be persuaded to park on the drivers side. But if Im honest I cant be bothered to faff about with it.
Timewaster Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 At shitter level there is no reason to chose one make over another. Also, if you have squabbling kids, take the centre seat out and they can't reach each other.
Lankytim Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 Humm, I've spied a cheap 2002 Galaxy that's chucking water out of the expansion tank but not over heating. Google suggests it could be the water pump impeller that's dropped off but then I think these PD lumps can crack heads or have HG problems...
Lankytim Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 Virtually all of those are mega mileage borked bangers though. Saying that, this Mk2 sounds borked as well. I thought PD engines could handle veg?
Lacquer Peel Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Not without modifications to the engine or fuel.
Lacquer Peel Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Here's one for you, these are top motors. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nissan-Serena-8-seater-people-carrier-diesel-Car-Van-/171499980491
dollywobbler Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 As long as you aren't in a hurry. Seem to recall 0-60mph is akin to a 2CV.
Lankytim Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 Love that pic of the exhaust on the floor.
Micrashed Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Those Serenas are not that bad. Its a van with windows and seats, yes, but my mate Bob the Builder had one and took it to over 300,000 miles with no major issues aside from galloping rot.
Lankytim Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 £285 a year on those later Galaxies, atleast in auto form, which this one is. F#CK THAT!!1
Lord Sterling Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Drove a VR6 Sharan, great bus, the right engine for the right size of people carrier. Makes a great noise to boot. Can't remember if I have driven a Diesel one, I probably have given the amount of these things we had in at the garage.
Lankytim Posted October 18, 2014 Author Posted October 18, 2014 I was so impressed with the Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra that we went out and bought another Multipla. Seems OK actually, loads of history with it, 104k, 3 owners. There's a few dinks but meh... It's the red one.. VAJ..... I found it on streetview too, when it lived in that thar London. Am I the only person who does this?
HH-R Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 I'm still on this whole Galaxy lark. Apart from badges, whats the difference between the Ford, VW and Seat versions? The Fords had Aldi oven chips ground into the carpet, Rola Cola stains and Poundland crayon on the seat backs, whereas the VWs had Waitrose finest Maris Piper "homestyle" oven chips ground into the carpet, Oasis Orange stains and genuine Crayola on the seat backs. Lankytim 1
Lacquer Peel Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Where does that leave the SEAT versions? Cavcraft 1
doobietoo Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 Had an Alhambra for a while efficient but boring to drive. In fact so boring i had a rape alarm taped to the back of the seat with a cord tied to my head so that it went off when i nodded off. Oh and dont tow anything heavy with it in the wet as it will just sit at up hill junctions and spin the wheels.... Lankytim 1
