Well... it's home. Will write the rest of the antics up on the PC tomorrow. In the mean time, have a petrol station shot from the A23 last night.post-4240-14095225881_thumb.jpg

That's a relief. We can go to bed now.

I hope you survive the night without being killed to death... does Ms_CMS know of this yet?

At least that big hairy spider didn't hitch a ride.

I like these Volvos, though I'll need to work on my Scottish accent before I'm allowed to get one. It's a requirement now as I understand it.

Scotland's plans to ditch the pound move one step closer...

This is a surprisingly straight and tidy old bus.

Great stuff, better than Emmerdale Farm any day!

OIl from the filler cap is often a result of a blocked breather filter disk, small cheap and relatively easy to change.

Ex-GC, by chance?

All the signs lead to this.

Glad it made it back OK! Sorry for the lack of radio... What are your plans for it?

These things happen Gary! I'll blame Barrett and say no more about it. Has he given you the coinage yet?

It was running like a cow this morning on the way to work but seems to have settled again. Other than shitting oil everywhere and using about four litres of water to get home it was fine and sat all the way up at 70*mph. Barrett did tell me about the heated seat issue so thankfully nothing went awry there.

As for plans for it... it was collected about ten minutes ago by my tame MOT tester who is going to give it a look over then hit me with a bumrapingly expensive bill. Hopefully not, but we'll see when it comes back.

Having previously traveled in this beauty from Sussex to Wales I can confirm it's mega comfy and mega squeaky.

I can't think of a better place for it to go and live.

I hope you're going to fill the back up with 10,000 car magazines then sleep on top of them with your nose touching the headlining after having got really drunk and spending an hour trying to distinguish it from the other Volvos, as a tribute to it's previous owner.

... well it failed. Not as eyewatering as expected but still a fail.

Front discs, pads all round, back box and a broken rear spring; looking like about £300 including the test.

That's not too bad, is it?  Was the car cheap enough to soak that up and still make it viable?

Could be worse. I'm gonna pop round shortly and see what like the back box is as I've got one off an '88 760 which may well fit. The 760 had IRS so the springs will be different. Brakes are brakes, no point fucking about with those.

He said nowt about the screen then?

He reckoned the screen wouldn't be an issue because the crack is on the nearside outwith the prescribed area; I'll get it drilled and that'll stop it spreading.

Although the front marker lights don't work either the sidelights in the main headlight unit do work so that's not an issue either.

Not a catastrophic fail anyway. Retest tomorrow.

That does look quite dreadful, well done. I image upon reflection that you could have got a nicer one, nearer, for less money, when you take into account fuel and the MOT but that would have been absolutely no fun at all would it?

Do you still have the Council Estate or has that moved onto pastures new/being melted down to make weapons for the Chinese? I am getting confuzzled looking at your signature.

Council Estate is still here, long term parked up regathering patina after a wall/car interface moment during the winter. Ended up in Southampton so finding a car nearer home with an MOT would have been a bigger issue... had this 740 been gone I had lined up a 940HPT manual estate but it was dearer and without tax; in fairness I didn't set out to buy another car, it was a means to an end. It drives A1 so can't complain other than Barrett removing the stereo by mistake and it being a bit incontinent in the vital fluids department.

I think I have missed the point of this thread haven't I.

I see from reading it properly that you were down there delivering a bus and needed to get back and buying a cheap car would be a good way of doing that.

You have also told me about the Volvo/Wall incident before.

I whacked my head yesterday when putting the suspension in the Triumph and am starting to wonder if I have concussion. Beer cures that right? Maybe I should have a beer?

Hey, I was instructed to remove the CD player! It is a homogeneous CD/radio unit and it all popped out in one piece. That's what happens when you trust me to do summat: chaos.

I haven't given Gary any money yet because 1) I haven't seen him and 2) I spent some of it down the pub, impressing the lass I was with by flashing Scottish twenties around and proving what a cosmopolitan I am. Sounds like this failed slightly worse than the Allegro did, which is astonishing really.

And after 25 seconds of intelligent thought on my part, I now realise he meant 'please remove the CD from the CD player' not 'Please remove the CD player from the car' as I originally thought.

I'll post it to you!

I'm not actually blaming you. But I am.

(I'm not. You're still my favourite Barrett. Ta again for plan alterations to allow me northbound travel.)

As an aside, did you pull? If you did I may start trading in Scottish banknotes rather than sodding Volvos.

Did you take the CD out before removing it from the car?... If Andy has a stereo that'll fit I would quite like to keep it anyway as the one in the Peugeot is rubbish. He's welcome to it if he really wants it though as I was intending to leave it in (mainly because I couldn't be arsed to remove it)

Sigmund Fraud mentioned that the front brakes were upgraded, maybe 760 ones or something? He should know anyway, I wasn't really listening.

To be honest if I knew it would only need £300 throwing at it for the MOT I would have kept it! Annoying. Let me know if/when it's up for grabs again and I might have it back.

The oil thing's a bit odd, it's never done that before (that I've noticed...). I did put some oil in it about a month ago and haven't really used it since, perhaps I didn't do it up tight enough? Hopefully it's an easy fix anyway.

Argh. If you'd have said you were short on head unit-age, I've got loads of the sodding things in the unit. You could have had one and chatted to SCTSH_ANDY about trossachs, or something.
