Any idea how much my Alfa is worth

As per the title I want to sell my 156, I've been looking through Gumtree to try and get an idea for a selling price but the prices seem to vary massively. Its a 2002 2.4 JTD 10V Lusso with black Momo leather interior, its just about to roll over to 80,000 miles. It didn't come with any service history so I fitted a cambelt kit about 10,000 miles ago when I bought it. It has a dent and two creases on the back left door as you can see in one of the pics, but otherwise the bodywork is straight. It could do with a replacement clutch, it doesn't slip but it bites right at the top of the pedal. I alway meant to get round to changing it but never had the time (even though I've owned it for two years!) and as my 60 mile round trip commute doesn't involve sitting in traffic it doesn't bother me. It's quite unusual as it has a really low mileage for its age, the interior reflects this and there are no rips or tears in the leather and the side bolster on the driver's seat is intact, which from looking at other cars at the breakers is rare. The air con didn't work when I bought it and I never got it the 'regas' it just needed. ;) but otherwise the climate control works great. It's got ~10 months MOT.

I know I could stick it on ebay at 99p starting bid but I think I could get better money for it if I put it on gumtree, hence why I need a good starting price for the ad. So what do you guys think?

Making that estimate is certainly a poison chalice, all I can say is it was very hard work selling my 2.0 petrol manual 156 saloon.

A man asking, how much is my Alfa worth? Is a bit like a pissed mate saying 'what d'ya reckon to my missus, would you shag her?' There is no possible answer that won't end in embarrassment, anger or despair.

OK........if someone sald to me............"make me an offer".........I'd be bidding about £450 tops.........which is probably not what you want to hear

No I was hoping for around double that, on the bright side it appears I own the lowest millage 2.4 JTD in the country!! :)

I think I'll give it a proper clean tonight, take some photos and then chuck it on Gumtree at £995 and see if I get any bites. Gumtree's annoying now as I keep having to make up a new email address every two weeks if I want to post a car ad for free. ;)

Why ask what's it worth when you already have a price in mind?

Gorgeous colour and a handsome car.  Shame about the air-con, the clutch and the door, I wouldn't want to give more than £600 for it because of those things.  Those bits rectified, I'd probably fork out £1500-2000 depending on how impressed I was with it in person.

That is if I were in the market for a 156, which I'm not.

I was just asking other people's opinions, if you look on gumtree/autotrader the prices are all over the place. e.g:

so there's a grand between two cars that are roughly the same sort of thing, if you ignore that one is from a private seller and a saloon and the other is an estate from a trader

I think 900 quid is about right with out the clutch issues. I bet the clutch on these is a right bastard so I recon you'll struggle to sell it unless it's cheap or you do the clutch.

Lovely cars the 156, I sold mine within 4 hours of putting it up for sale, which was possibly the worst motoring-related mistake I ever made, apart from buying a VW Jetta...
I'd echo the consensus, the clutch is a PITA on these IIRC complete with dreaded DMF,so a £5-600 hit at a cheap garage. WIth the dink in the door sorted (156s always look hellish with any kind of side body damage IMO) and a new clutch, with a proper ad you might get £1100-1200 for it.

If all the probs were sorted, I'd happily pay a millionty pounds for it, if it was red.

Wonder how Vin is getting on with my gaffer's old 156? That was pretty tatty outside but was mechanically bob-on (noisy driveshafts aside) and had had loads spent on it. IIRC that was £450 which seemed about right to me, considering it was the (slightly) more desirable estate but had done a fair old mileage and was a bit on the tatty side

As my dad always told me :- people can ask what they want , dont mean they are gonna get it.

I had a 1.8TS brand new in that colour and like yours it had those lovely Selespeed alloys.

It is absolutely gorgeous and in its day was a million times prettier than anything else on the road (rest of the Alfa range included).

That said (and tragically) it is probably worth buttons, and will be broken within three years, and the world will have lost it to that scrapyard in the sky along with all the Alfetta Saloons, Alfasud Sprints, Fulvia Coupes, Beta HPEs and all the other italian beauties that made the world a better place.

Emotive rant over.

Here you are Mr Barrett...My Sis is using it now. She lurves it...

To be fair, that one of Vin's sisters might as well be a different car. It's a facelift for a start, it's a sportwagon, has the best spec and will be a 16v JTD, which is as powerful as the 10v but makes the car less nose heavy. However, at £450, it was CHEAP!!!

Back on topic, though, I can only echo sentiments about clutch and door damage, which will ultimately hold this car back. As for value? Advertise and see.....

As said already, the clutch is the first thing to instigate rubbing of chins and tightening of wallets.

I would list it at £695, take 600 and tell them 'they are all like and the air-con just needs re-gassing' lol
