FOUND METRO! Peterborough

IMO unless you have an agreed value policy, it would probably be best not to claim. Payout is going to be pennies - a few hundred quid at best and you can sure-as-shit bet that your premium will be jacked up next year, regardless of protected NCB (if you have it).

I would be banging it on ebay as is, and quickly before you start getting charged storage by the garage.

Really sorry to see the state of that.

Personally I think DW had the best idea, although I can appreciate why you might just want to get rid.

Aye. Buy it back, remove the engine, then scour Ebay for a poor Metro that's had its engine removed.

Will the offender get a community order?

What is the point of insurance if you are fearful of claiming?

Personally, I'd salvage whatever is left and scrap the shell.

The case was moved on to the Crown Court with three charges, including the Grevious Metro Theft. So they're obviously angling for a fairly serious penalty if it's beyond the scope of a Magistrate.

It's not good, but it could be much worse. I liked the Metro but I can't say I was that attached to it. If this was my Land Rover I would be pretty devastated and be willing to put in all sorts of unreasonable time/effort/money into getting it back on the road. I was planning to get rid of the Metro anyway - just not like this. Still, I wouldn't wish the fact of walking around a corner and seeing your car (which had been a very straight and fully working example when you last saw it) on a rack and all smashed up on anyone.

The magistrate can only offer punishment of up to six months in prison, so I would imagine the offender has considerable offending history.

What a damned shame.  I too think stripping it for anything saleable would be the best thing to do now, but I understand your point about having nowhere to do it!  I'd be in the same boat...  Letting the insurance have it is going to cost you later, but at least it'll be a space freed and a cash injection, and no more headaches.  Will they let you have your lovely new rad off where it is?

Man thats a right shitter. I really feel formyour loss, not nice knowing some gurning twat whommay well get off with a slap on the wrist has caused you the loss of your posession.

Just in case it's in the slightest bit helpful, I have a spare lock-up where this could be stored for a few weeks prior to stripping or whatever. Would mean getting it to Hertfordshire though.

I assume that's no use whatsoever but thought I'd mention it on the off-chance.

Will the offender be paying up for the damage?

Didn't think so.

See if the insurers will let you keep it then just ebay it. I recon you'll get close to its pre accident value for the lovely A+ 1300 motor anyway.

Because a man in a wig will take your licence away if you don't have it, no other reason.

Would that be Raymanboy?

A horrible experience all round.

I have a little room and an engine crane in south lincs if you wanted to spend a weekend gutting it?

Bastards. Still if the powertrain from this goes into a Mini and saves another decent Metro from losing it's engine than it's worth the sacrifice. Hopefully the insurance company with give you a good payout.

Wash your mouth out with carbolic soap. It should be dropped into an engine raped Metro....

If there were drums in the back, my bet is they were planning to raid trucks. Quite common for them to raid the fuel tanks of trucks parked along the A14 and elsewhere. Happened to someone I know recently in fact, though the coppers were on the ball and caught the guy in the act. You have to wonder what's wrong with these people. "I need a car, I'll just take someone else's. I need fuel, I'll just steal from someone."

Good that you sort of got it back. I would take the offer of storage and fix it no matter what just to spite the twat that stole it

If it can all be straightened out for a few hundred, it might be worth saving? How hard is it to find panels for these?

Arseholes. These people always seem to walk away unscathed. I used to work at a filling station, and we had drive-offs now and again, and I expect that's what they used it for. Nick a car or alter/fake the plates, couple of drums in the back like this, busy cashier starts dispensing fuel and before you knew it there was an unpaid fuel bill of £90 and an empty pump.

Nasty thing to happen to anyone and it must be gutting to see the mess of your car. Unusual for the culprit to be nicked though, bit of closure I suppose.

I now use my disklok even though it is a knuckle-skinning PITA.
