My Scorpio. Anyone want it £250?

Right I will cut a long story short, the granny I bought last week has been a PITA, first the alternator went so the previous owner popped over and replaced it FOC, that was kind of him and all seemed well. Gave the battery a charge and all seemed ok yesterday when I popped out in it, sounded drove and pulled well with no issues.

Today I go to pop out in it and it just spins over and wont start, because I am no mechanic I cannot fix it and I refuse to throw good money at it, but mainly because it wasn't even what I really wanted in the first place so bought it as a stop gap until a tidy SD1 pops up.

MOT Feb 2015 and Tax to 31 July 2014, it has approx. £25 of juice in the tank and comes with a spare battery which I think is a good 'un.

I am just waiting for the log book to come through (was sent off by the previous owner on Tuesday). Once that arrives I can scrap it if no on here wants it.

I will upload pics for anyone interested, although most of you would of seen the thread on it last week, here.

That's a bargain and a half, What's the mileage and engine and where in Essex are you?.

Posted

Mileage is 164k but its stayed on the same mileage (164268) since the previous owner replaced the speedo sensor last Friday. He did offer to try and rectify it but it didn't really bother me for what I wanted it for. The speedo does now work though LOL!

Its a 2.9i Auto.

Near Southend Trig.

Bargwin, hopefully not something too serious .

As long as it hasn't made it weigh any less I don't mind.

Check rotor and dizzy cap - ripe for neglect .

Ditto fuel filter.

I have had one of these - it will be something minor.

Shame, it looked good in the pictures.

If I had storage etc etc etc. Hope someone can give it a reprieve.

Have you checked the fuel cut off switch  in the back pannel to the left of the boot catch striker ?

Crank sensor and associated wiring can give trouble on the later Scorpio model, may be worth bearing in mind here.

These never had a crank sensor like the later models  . its all done by the distributor module

Has it got an alarm ?

When you say check the fuel cut off switch, what is there to check? The little white switch on top doesn't really do anything.

Press the white button see if it clicks and stays down  , or is it allready down ?

Does the fuel pump buzz for a few seconds when you turn the ign on ?

Hey, its a dead easy fix this no doubt. Don't throw the towel in so easily. YOUR BRITISH GOD DAMMIT! WE USED TO RULE THE WORLD! Would we have done so with this attitude? NO! If we gave up this easily we would probably all be speaking French! ZUT ALORS! When the Zulu's attacked Rorkes Drift, did Lieutenant Chard give up at the first sign of failure? NO! Did Wellington waver when battling the Prussians? NO!

THAT'S BECAUSE THEY HAD BRITISH GRIT AND THE DETERMINATION TO POWER ON!

The Light Brigade took heavy losses against the Russian forces in the Battle of Balaclava but we went on to win the war!  Elvis Presley was number one with Rock a Hula baby in 1961 but the Shadows knocked him off the top spot. Could they have done that if they were French? Probably, but they weren't French THEY WERE BRITISH!

NOW DRINK SOME PISS WEAK BEER, PUT ON SOME ILL FITTING JEANS AND A T-SHIRT THAT ACCENTUATES YOUR GUT AND GET OUT THERE AND MEND THAT FUCKING CAR LIKE THE THE BRITON THAT YOU ARE!

Are you sitting in the drivers seat and not the rear seat?

@Trigger, washer fluid level? Never heard of that causing a car not to start before! LOLZ!

@Stixy, No I haven't, I cant see me arsing about with it tbh, I am as much a car mechanic as the queen is African.

Tim has sorted it, problem now diagnosed! 8)

Have you tried sacrificing a unicorn and rubbing it's rainbow blood on the bonnet? Classic ford workshop procedure back in the 80's apparantly, which why you don't see many of them about these days.

This will sound daft, but bear with me;  I had a Sierra that did this because I'd opened the passenger door, not the drivers one and you had you lock/unlock it from the same door or it wouldn't fire up.

*Update* The car has now fired up, the previous owner said to pull the white fuel cut off switch up which I did and hey presto. I did kinda slam the boot down earlier when chucking stuff in the boot and that obviously knocked it.

So, the guy I bought it off is a MK3 Granada anorak and has offered to buy it back, plus he lives a mile down the road so it could get awkward. Im hoping this time tomorrow the car will be gone, I will have my money back and this thread will be long gone and never read again lol!!!

OMG don't bridge it. It is bound to be something basic!

And you are publicly broadcasting the fact the decent previous owner thinks his life will be simpler just to give you your money back? Fair play I would have kept that one quiet!

His a really nice chap and he has 5 of these MK3 Granada's, I told him about the latest non starting issue this evening and he was happy to just take the car back I think because he feels slightly bad about the whole saga, I didn't threaten to put his windows through lol!! if his happy to take it back im happy to see it gone and wait until I find something I really want i.e. Saab 900 or Rover SD1
