Classic Ford show photos

For the last few days I've been getting pestered to go along to Santa Pod for the Classic Ford show, I wasn't too bothered as i was told it's full of Escorts and that it's a bit boring, but due to a change of plans on Sunday i was finding myself home alone for the day yesterday so I accepted a mates offer of a lift to the show with another mate of mine, plus i meant i could pop my Pod cherry.

I'm glad i did accept the offer now as it was a great day! The stead for the day was this MG ZT 190, it cost my mate £250 with a knackered engine, he had a spare V6 out of a Rover 75 sitting around so fitted that (changing the belts first) and it's been running it fault free since, bit revy mind, over 4000 rpm at 75mph! no wonder it was so juicey.

Anyway i digress, here's some photos of the day.

We passed this old Audi on the way.

There was a fair queue to get in but it gave a change to see plenty of old stuff, this P100 sounded like it was running something modern.

This Escort is a monster, If you remember the Royal Nail van then much of the running gear is in this, Cosworth 4x4 running 700 bhp and doing mid 9's on the 1/4 mile!

These next few were on the Classic Ford magazine stand, they were under cover until 11am before being uncovered to show everyone.

This is a 3.0 V6 Uren Salvage, it's a bitsa though it's a reshell with a vin bought of ebay i believe.

That motorsport Tranny has made me go a bit giddy. "The 1.3S" badging on the tail of the Zakspeed tribute caused coffee to project from my face.

Sorry to interrupt you there in mid-post!

I don't 'do' Fords, but the Corsair really is the Bulls Bollocks. As a child my old man had a Mk1 Orion and the guy next door had one of these as a cheapo runaround. It looked better than the Orion IMO!

Did ford ever fit the Essex V6 to these, or was that only for the Zodiac, Granada and Transit?

I don't think there were any official Ford ones, but the V4 in the UK cars was an Essex V4...

Thanks for putting the pictures up of Santa pod... I normally go myself due to a couple of friends owning old fords and racing them up the strip and we normally all go camping for the weekend...

I hear this year it was a bit of a mission leaving on the Sunday as it took my friends forever and a day to get out the car park...

Every year I get bitter and twisted when I see all those Escorts and Anglias which I sold for penny's now worth a billion quid lol

For extra autoshite points you needed the horrible V4 Essex engine Corsair which I believe was in the later ones rather than the decent pre crossflow Kent series engine.

Some great stuff there, bit of a purist's nightmare!

Reminded me of C889FRO, a rather fast Escort RS Turbo lowered on Speedlines that used to always be parked on the next street next to me, then disappeared a few years ago. Just checked and it seems it was scrapped early last year.

It was a utter nightmare! We just sat in the car park for ages with some other friends waiting until it died off in the end, we still never got out until 6.30pm, the show finished at 5pm!

Corsairs are the nuts, they have really grown on my over the years and I'm gutted i missed out on that 2.0 V4 GT recently, I know someone local selling a early 1500 project which would be tempting. As for the V6, It has been done but not by factory and I don't think by Salvage

The guy who rat looked the MK1 Cortina should be banned from driving for life.

Corking pics there Trig, cheers. Gold Sierra for me please, bar the stupid exhaust. Was it quick?

Posted

Good pics! Some interesting stuff there - but (at the risk of sounding creepy) nothing I'd crawl over your Cortina (or Eddy's Granada) to get to...

I find stretched tyres profoundly depressing. Fake German number plates ditto. Each to his own.

Do rather like the Corsairs though, ratty and otherwise, and the silver Mk3 Scrote, and the baby blue 100E, and some of the proper hot rod things.

Posted

I must say, My Mk3 was still nicer than many the one's on display yesterday (except the Uren one), they all looked a bit tired and bodgy, those Escorts with the German plates were in fact LHD German imports, Mk3's must be the latest thing to ship over now.

A mate of mine who's a local car dealer has this Corsair project for sale at the moment with the 1500 crossflow, it needs a few jobs but it's far from rubbish, he's told me to make of offer on it but I haven't got much spare cash at the moment.

NOW you're talking.

Red vinyl? Pea shooter exhaust? That Corsair bumper that looks like it's on upside down? Inappropriate Serck plates? Get on it!

Proper early 60s colour too. I've just painted my kitchen that colour, in fact, it being a 1963 house.

ford had a few Essex V6 corsair ests as chase cars while the mk2 cortinas where being rallied before they where replaced by mk1 escort

think race proved did some along side their mk2 savage Cortina's..

the cossie powered mk3 escort is owned built by the owner of "royal nail" van far as I know he still had both.

shame that mk3 savage was written off/reshelled as it was the original development one.

recognise quiet a few of the other tina's .

.

What he said :-)

Tbh I hate "scene" cars, I've no idea why everything has to be lowered or why you would ever want to change the engine especially for one from a different company.

Each to there own and all that, but when there "ruined" like some of them obviously are how how does this bode for the next owner? If there ever is one

I first saw this on your Flickr pictures in 2010 and loved it for its original untouched look and also its colour a very rare shade called Green Jade.  It appeared for sale in 2011 for around £1200 but I was unable to buy it as I was in the process of trying to secure a 1976 (1975 built) MKII Escort 1300 Ghia totally original down to dealer plates/rear window sticker etc, so I was unable to buy this green 1300L.  I had seen on another forum a while back what had happened to it and was sad to see that.  On the plus side I did purchase the 1300 Ghia its in safe hands with me as I won't be selling it and its staying totally standard.

Great pics as usual, thanks for sharing.

Some tasty cars there, that silver Capris 3.0S would do me nicely.

Does anyone know where I could get some of those stripes on the side of the gold Mk 2 cortina?   Are they off the shelf anywhere or is it a matter of getting them made up at a graphics place?

Seeing the VW scene influence on presumably younger modders is interesting and whilst not for me ,I'm just happy people are willing to mess around with old cars. It did make me think what's the Ford equivalent of Pineappled? Not the Old Skool, Sarf Landon, Rally / Race rep , Pikey VIP look that's all well established, but the new generation stuff. Coconutted ? Potatoed ? ( maybe for the £50,000 re-shell Irish rally cars)

As for banded steels,I' can usually take them or leave them, but, that 3.0S Granada looks pretty hot, never seem that done before- who needs scabby Cossie Scorpio allys ?
