Those early mobile phones weighed a tonne back in the 1990s.

That will just be a ton, no need for foreign weights then.

We had metric when I was at school in the '70s. I never learned how many pounds in a ton or yards in a mile.

I think I was probably in about the last group of children to be taught both imperial and metric at school.
I later worked in the electronics industry which meant dealing with US companies as well as European ones, so knowing both systems was essential to.

The U.K. has never gone completely metric. We still drive miles and drink pints of beer for example.

Ton v Tonne is close enough to be considered virtually the same in every day use.

It's interesting how it changes - my grandfather was b. 1900 and taught the metric system - imperial was just a way of life that everyone kinda knew, from what he said.

Got to be a film prop. These are cast iron and with the glass in impossible for two men to lift. Wikipedia says about 680kg - that's heavier than a Citroen 2CV.

You'd need plant to move that in one piece.

Days before ideas of safety if that is a professional prop lift - no gloves or foot protection 🤔

It's 'The Little Crown' - in Albion Street Rotherhithe London. Was near the former Surrey Docks. Now empty.

Yes it is Rotherhithe, on the corner of Albion Street and Renforth Street. The pub closed in 2002.

In 2019 it looked like this
