Yes, generally speaking it was only the lowest trim level that didn't have reversing lights.

The oldest Escort brochure I have, from 1971 shows "Standard" (lowest trim) and "Saloon" (second lowest) doing without, while L, XL and GT did get them.

I’ve never actually seen an Escort Standard, single sun visor and no temp gauge etc. I think I’ve only ever seen one basic rubber floored saloon and me and a couple of mates must have had 30 or 40 between us in the early 80’s. Even then the best condition ones always seemed to be 4 doors, usually XLs. But at £40/50 a throw we didn’t really care , a set of Capri struts with discs and either a 1600 Kent or 2.0 out of a Mk3 Cortina if we were feeling flush enough to buy a sump and mounts from European Motorsport and we were away.

The A-Z of Cars of the 1980s mentions these, can't remember the coachbuilder, not many lasted into the 1990s.

Was it Crayford perhaps? Though it looks a bit rough, theirs were quite good.

There's a badge on the back end just below the redundant rear wiper hole.
