The first image is of cars for sale. The Ford has no plate. Sometimes these were cars being sold as spares other times the  sale may be a bit iffy.

That shot sent me back in an instant. I spent a lot of the 80s hanging around Hastings because of the Hastings Diesels. But once they had gone and I'd bought a bus we took that there too. 

It's not immediately apparent but the blinds were meticulously hand painted to show intermediate stations on the Tonbridge Hastings line. This involved going through my many Routemaster blinds looking for the right letters, drawing round them on paper, cutting them out then drawing round them again on a new blind and hand painting them white. The 22 is a standard RM blind but 22 was the Southern Region route code for Charing Cross to Hastings. In London terms it went to Putney. 

 

There was also a lovely steep girder bridge which used to go over the east end of the platforms. 

 

Which was replaced with a much more austere affair. 

The semaphore signals are also long gone too unsurprisingly. 

 

Then there was the old goods shed. Seen here being used to store withdrawn Hastings Units before they were taken away for scrap. 

And from the other end of the goods shed looking back at the station. 

With bonus Ital and what looks like a white Carlton. The site now looks like this. 

I'll admit that probably gets more use than the goods shed did but I will always remember it how it was.

Some of the spare Hastings units were used to make the hybrid Tadpole units with some other stock that used the standard Southern loading gauge.
