Later model (82 model year?) judging by those mirrors, but looks like it needs a lot of work...

Probally, only the other day my neighbours started ramming each other in the street

Currently one at the Stondon Museum. Rare as hens teeth now I would have thought.

(Another ancient thread resurrected!!)

Early GM cam in head lumps were not great, mainly due to Godawful carb. Later 3 litre injected ones [Monza etc] were nice. They all seem to share the same rot spots, front chassis legs and strut tops especially. The difference in performance between a 2.5 carb one, and a 3 ltr injected jobbie is startling

^Agreed. Anything other than the 3.0i's were 'sedate'.I was eyeballing a 2.5i Senny on ebay the other day, in a similar predicament. The best outcome for these old hacks is parts cars. There's much interchangability between models, even the common panels.

I'd like that as my daily driver! Mind you, a gas conversion would have to be fitted asap.

Strange hybrid the Viceroy, nose section & interior trim of the Senator/Royale with the tail & rear suspension of the Rekord/Carlton. Didn't Saab do something similar with the 90 model, which was the nose of the old 99 combined with the back end of the 900, or was it t'other way about? That Viceroy does look rather nice though, there can't be too many of any of the early Vauxhall variants of the GM V-cars left now.

The 90 had the 99 nose and the rear of the 900 - inside it was a 99 IIRC.

I see this Viceroy every year at Thoresby Hall, near Mansfield. I think the owner is a member of The Autobahnstormers club.

Hope you find it interesting. :D

Cheers, it's interesting reading that and seeing how well priced the 90 was compared to some quite ordinary cars.

The best car my parents has owned when I was around was his old 1979 Royale 2800 without air con. Silver with red interior in the mid 1980s.Sadly, a pricey water pump replacement scared my parents and once repaired, it was quickly sold. :( A few years later, my dad bought a dark blue 1986 Carlton 2.2i CD. I thought it was great. 8)8)8) He let me drive it a few times after I passed my test and I was even insured on it as a named driver for a few months. Wasn't as nice as the Royale but was sad to see that go too. Would have bought it myself but the £800 TPFT insurance quote was an issue!

Superb car the Royale. :D

I had one about 20 years ago when it was just another unloved big barge with an unfashionable badge, and now I've got this one, which gets used regularly.

Is that the one that was on ebay a while back? I know someone from this parish got it but i'm rubbish with names..... if it is, it's certainly cleaned up well! Needed front wings iircIf it's not that one, apologies, and it is still an absolute stunner. I know i've said it before several times, but it's worth repeating- one of my favourite cars of all time.

Hello there, Mr. Hawk. I know you from another forum. Gorgeous Royale that one. Black suits it very well. Did that particular car ever appear in Practical Classics back in 2003/4? :? A few years ago I recall a Holden Commodore with a 4-litre engine (V8?)up for sale on ebay. It looked identical to the Viceroy - maybe an Oz or a South Africa import? Was being sold by someone in Norfolk so not far from me. :)

Yup, and it still does need the driver's wing sorting, that's it's good side! I lost out on a brand new GM wing on Ebay last month which was a bit of a pisser but I'll get it fixed eventually.
