Does anyone want a very uninviting-looking project?

I have had this Talbot alpine for 15 YEARS!!!!! Bought it from Tyne car auctions on the coast road for about 40 quid just after I finished uni. Went all over in it and it was GREAT, really comfy, surprisingly quick and easy to drive with a 5-speed BE1 peugeot gearbox and power steering. Heater was always a bit shit mind you. Its got a 'janspeed' back box on (same diameter tailpipe as a standard one!!!) which makes a cool rasp. I put it in my dads garage in about 2002 and its been there ever since. Its not hideously rotten and only has 40,000 miles on, possibly less actually. Its got the old OHV simca engine in 1600 flavour, and the engine is a real honey. No rattly tappets like they all used to have.

When it was parked up its problems were: Shitty front brakes (new pads and discs are in the boot), tickover a bit erratic and STOMIL tyres throughout. Since then the inner wings at the back have developed some new rust - they've been patched once so would need some moderatley serious tickling from a MIG. INside the tailgate is a bit rusty too and one of the front wings looks like its been attached with a hammer!!!!

Now its looking a bit sad and has not been started for probably 10 years, though I bet it would start up without too much fannying about.

I have got a new front wing for it actually as the 'hammer attack' one is looking a bit sorry for itself.

I dont particularly want any money for it, hence the price of less than FOURTEEN QUID which is the equivalent price of 6 bottles of my favourite Tsingtao chinese lager from Tescos. Equally, it seems a bit lame to save it from a scrapyard (I was the only bidder) then keep it indoors for 15 years, only to weigh it in at the end, So I am hoping to find it a new home who can do better than just weighing it off (which I could do myself obviously) or banger racing it. Dont get me wrong though, its been sat for 10 years and will defo need some reasonable level of fettling to get it back on the road. Don't think you can come with a battery and drive it to an MOT station to see what it needs. Its located in Wisbech, cambs. if you think you can offer it (or most of it) some sort of nugget of hope for the future, mull it over for a day or two then PM me. Its not going anywhere in the immediate future as I am too busy!

PS the Raleigh Dynatech 'mission' is not for sale and has a cracked frame anyway.

Still got its original Phillips MW/LW radio cassette as depicted in the Haynes for these cars, which sounds beyond terrible on the 2 statios such a radio can pick up, and is almost certain to chew up your favourite KD Lang tape (ask me how I know). Also still has the 'car details' summary that was in the windscreen at the auction house!!!

Wish I was sufficiently talented and motivated to take this on, class motor with a great tale behind it.

I love these cars.

It's not a million miles from me.

I reckon it's light enough that the Toyota would cope with trailering it home.

It's so cheap than even I can afford it.

I have a mate who can weld (and who welded up the rear inner wings on my last Alpine).

However, I have absolutely nowhere to put it.

CUNTSTICKS.

Once I put a Suzuki Whizzkid in the yellow paper, price 'free to good home'. Lesson learned the hard way there.

I SHOULD buy this car as I am landed in France and I'm guessing spares aren't that hard to come by. Plus there are a load of very old cars still doing the rounds around here. HOWEVA, I've yet to see a Talbot Alpine around here. All the VERY old cars around here are Renaults/Peugeots.

Some one at the Simca Talbot club woud like this. They have a forum and you can advertise a car on it for free

I have a huge soft spot for these - my first car (in 1983) was a 1977 Chrysler Alpine 1.3 GL and about 2 years later I had a 1980 Solara SX.

I keep looking at this and thinking "how could I arrange to........"  but in all honesty a project is probably out of the question when I'm here in the Middle East.  But if it doesn't find a good home in the next few weeks (and if one or two things come off as planned on the work front) then the situation may change.

Dropped you a PM, am in Simca Talbot Club and have a Solara and Alpine, both having been restored. If in agreement I'd do the same with this.

Cheers

I once advertised an E-reg Renault Trafic van for nowt in the free ads - fourteen calls - five people said they'd take it. After six hours waiting for the wanker who was first to turn up, I called number two in the queue. Was there in an hour, did the V5 and off he went.

I don't want a Talbot though, not even if you gave me the six beers for taking it away!

Love these. Used to hire them from a one man and a shed company called Peter Waugh Car Hire Guildford where they were tagged "Peter Waughbangers" and "local use only". I wanted one go to work in Denmark so he sold it to me then bought it back when I returned. Used one (with bags of sand in the back) to pull a 39 foot trailer + microlite the length of the A303 on bank holiday Monday, I had a clear road in front.   Loads of them in Denmark and all badged Chrysler.

What You Tube needs is one of those videos entitled 'Talbot Alpine first start in 12 years'. Lots of American cars and trucks, plus a few Mercedes for some reason but nothing interesting. I'd watch it over and over again!

Is this thread a joke or does this alpine need a good home...as you can see from my collection I look after these cars and have turned down numerous cars recently....if its a genuine thread then please let me know.

I doubt it is a joke...From my communications with Mr B he is very genuine...I expect he's just not logged on since posting the thread...

Can't imagine Bollx joking about this.

Can't imagine a better home than Benjy's Garage Of Lushness.
