Heidel_Kakao Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Sounds like his mistake was going to the post office, I personally would not give him any extra but I am a miserly git.
The Moog Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I think he has asked nicely and we all make mistakes. I would offer half and a top tip to use Interparcel in future. mercedade 1
inconsistant Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I've just had some scalextric stuff posted to me, not via eBay, and the seller told me that the postage pretty much doubles at 2kg from about £6 to £12. My parcel was 10g over so the seller took it home and removed some of the packaging and got it down to 1998g before posting. Up yours Royal Mail! eddyramrod 1
catsinthewelder Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I did feel a bit sorry for a newbie ebay seller recently, they'd advertised a tag-a-long bike for £30 with £3 postage and were fairly local. I hit the BIN and paid with postage more out of badness than expectation and was a bit embaressed when they offered to drive it over as they were going to loose out massively if they posted it. Theres a nice wood for cycling near the sellers house so I went and fetched it.
brickwall Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I've mucked up postage a few times too. I just send the stuff and get good feedback. To me, a deal is a deal. spike60 and messerschmitt owner 2
retrogeezer Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I reckon in this instance I would probably offer half if I was happy with the radio. He did make a mistake sending it 1st or 2nd class and should have just sent it standard parcels or whatever it's called these days.
messerschmitt owner Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 There's no way it would cost £12 odd to post a car radio. Tell him you bought it based on the prices he gave and wouldn't have bid at that moneylast time I posted one it was the thick end of £14 so yes it does cost that to send one. I took the hit!
carlo Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 As he's asked nicely I'd also offer half back (subject to it being OK), telling him you're understanding of his mistake but you probably wouldn't have bid that amount if the full postage had been declared. Apparently a recent report says we feel happier giving than taking.
Disco Fever Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 As he's asked nicely I'd also offer half back (subject to it being OK), telling him you're understanding of his mistake but you probably wouldn't have bid that amount if the full postage had been declared. Nearly fell over! I put these things down to experience, I've been caught out with 'highlands and islands' too, dead happy about that. Would not dream of asking for more though.
MikeKnight Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I was about to reply saying ignore him, but he asked so nicely and is an ebay noob.. even my hardened heart would be tempted to give him a refund. Then I wouldn't, because reasons.
bigfella2 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 I got mugged for over £12 to send a knackered laptop as cheaply as i could, is it me or has Royal fail got mentally expensive recently? Tried to post a laptop battery earlier this week, got told that that is not allowed any more, unless it is attached still to the laptop!! Then thats ok! same about mobile phones too. Would not embarrass myself asking for more postage, there fault for being slack.

The new small/tall/wide/medium parcel options can mean very small variations in weight and size can double a parcel's cost. It's not enough to throw an item in a box anymore, you've got to choose the right sized box and weigh carefully. They have a terrible reputation, but I have been very satisfied with MyHermes. Very cheap and you can drop your item off at a convenience store at 9pm on a Sunday evening which is very convenient. Craig the Princess 1
twosmoke300 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 +1 on myherpes. No troubles with them so far . I just use the cheapest 3 day Service and they will collect from a safe place too so you don't have to stay in.
Bobthebeard Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I recently dropped a clanger on postage fees to a fellow Autoshiter. ^^. Felt bad about it and offered the ' my fault, I will stand it' option. He refunded the postage in full without question, which made me feel even more guilty about getting it wrong TBH!
ruffgeezer Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Yeah I'd go with the offer half and point him towards myhermes, I honestly don't know why anyone goes to the post office these days, well that is unless they want to spend ages in a queue of suffering old biddies with sonny crocheted bobble hats and a faint smell of gin, piss and stale biscuits and that's just the counter staff! twosmoke300 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Glad I'm not the only one to hate post office staff. Do they have to go on a course to learn how to be so fucking miserable and awkward ?
burraston2006 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Glad I'm not the only one to hate post office staff. Do they have to go on a course to learn how to be so fucking miserable and awkward ?Yes. It's a week long course paid for by over charging for our parcels. They also suck lemons in order to get the 'pursed lip we are doing you a favour' look!
eddyramrod Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 You guys are using the wrong Post Offices then! In my local one they are positively welcoming! I do sometimes wonder if that has anything to do with the cute dog I'm often carrying, though...
Skizzer Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 How much does it cost to post the dogs, then? DeeJay and eddyramrod 2
Vince70 Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 The new stereo arrived today and looks in good nick but it now seems that the stereo in the Audi is behaving itself (as is the electric window) The car seems to repair itself which I can't really complain about, the problem being is as soon as something plays up I go and buy new parts.. I think all the little electrical niggles the car had of late has been due to being laid up in a damp garage over the winter months and now that it's dried out everything is back to normal. Either that or the car had an identity issue and thought it was French
robinmasters Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 He's already posted the item...but his feedback is low because he's only just joined eBay..I wouldn't of paid £17.84 in total for the stereo as it's not the one I really wanted.. The stereo I really wanted was in a charity shop the other week and was an early 90s pioneer radio cassette which was boxed for ten quid but I didn't have the money on me at the time and I can't remember which shop it was plus it's 30 miles away. So if I did drive over and find the shop and was lucky enough to find the stereo hadn't sold then it wouldn't end up a cheap buy.. I'm about 30 miles from Battle. PM me if it's over my way (Ashford ish), I'll see if it's still there (I'll post it to you too, for £47.93). Vince70 1
Pillock Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 MyHermes are great. I can even bang parcels in one of their fancy electronic locker things at the petrol station up the road. Feels really futuristic.... I put it in a box and close the door, it turns up somewhere else. Wicked. Also I get to scan a barcode which gives me the same happy feeling as playing with the self scan shopping thing in Sainsburys.
