£200 Celica (logistical shitemare thread)

Well, this is the 200 quid Celica. I've not had so much as a chance to empty the litter out of it yet, but I have taken the battery off for a charge: Sorry the second pic is in wanky black and white.... I must've activated that mode on the phone.. didn't notice at the time as the sun was shining onto the screen so I couldn't actually see it.

Decided I'm going to get the MoT and the clutch done and take it from there... clutch kit is only £45 on ebay so even if it ends up costing me £500 total with a years ticket and new clutch I reckon I'm quids in:

It's got to be worth doing given it's an 03 car and they seem quite popular. It's probably worth 14-1500 quid with a fresh MOT?

I recckon if it gets made shiny and everything looks straight, that could push four figures easily. It's the perfect purchase for someone experiencing a mid-life crisis.

One of my old colleagues went through a bit of hassle with his missus, nearly split up, she told him he needed to be more adventurous so he traded a Felica in for a VVT Celica. And got a tattoo. We parted ways shortly after so I don't know if it worked.

That looks a nice little coupe, I reckon you've landed on your feet even with having to do the clutch and MoT.  Have a great summer with it and flog off in September at a profit.

Aye I like it! Once its tested I'l decide whether to keep it or not. I reckon if I do hang onto it I'll flog the ZT, as I'd quite like to raise some cash to finish off the Cortina 2.0 S.

I really like the MG though so at the moment I'll be more inclined to keep that.

Cortina's almost good to go for its MOT now bar needing a couple of shock absorbers and then a respray. Be nice to have it back on the road for summer

Bloody amazing that a car like this was off over the weighbridge if I hadn't stepped in though, As a country we have totally the wrong idea with cars IMO.

Car are treated like white goods once broken then scrapped

I do like that Celica  a smart coupe well saved

They are nice but they are in the chavmobile bracket because they're so cheap. Looked great when they came out.

No is it a common problem? It's driving him up the wall.

Dunno about Celicas TBH, but I had a similar issue on a Volvo, and it was the master cylinder not allowing the fluid back in (or summert like that) causing slight brake bindage all round.

That car is an absolute bargain,

can't believe it was going to be scrapped.

love the colour, and it's got the boot spoiler,

they look shit without them.

Great looking cars these. Well worth spending some money on and enjoy it for the summer.

Lotus used the 190 engine in some Elise's didn't they?

EDIT: Exige??

I'm not understanding....

Were you shagging his missus?

Or was it you that got the tattoo?

Was it of a Celica?

Biggest bargain in Bargainland. Fab buy!

So it passed its MoT yesterday with no advisories. Win!

I've had the clutch done and its now bob on. The rear discs and pads were pretty shot so I've replaced those, along with some other minor bits and bobs I noticed were a bit shit.

Cleaned all the dog hair out which took bloody ages and gave it a damn good polish and it looks 1000% better!

Its standing me about 600 quid and theres sod all wrong with it now.

Its now on ebay/gumtree at £1150 and has had a bit of interest already so lets see how it goes. ( if on the off chance a shiter fancies it, come pick it up before the weekend and give me a grand and I'm delighted.)

Of course nothing goes smoothly.

Still haven't actually got the log book which is now proving a ball ache. It wasn't with the car when I picked it up and he keeps "forgetting" to drop it off when he's over my way.

Of course what's the first question I got asked by a prospective buyer ? "Do you have the V5 in your name".

Told me he'd post it at the weekend, he clearly hasn't. Text him today with a polite nudge that I REALLY need it now... No reply. FFS!

I'd just go bang on his door but he's in Ayr which is a good 90 miles away and ld rather not have to trek all the way over for a bit of paper

Sheesh. Never do business with mates... Nothing's done in a hurry cos "dave won't mind"

Posted

Just apply for one mate. I'd be surprised if anyone disputes ownership. The cost is a bummer (still £25?) . As would be the wait. But at least it would be sorted.

Remember possession is fifteen sixteenths of the law, so if youve got the keys, you have pretty good evidence of ownership regardless of V5.

I just applied for a log book when I was sold someone elses car while they were on a cruise, and it all turned out well. For me.

There's no ownership dispute, I've known the guy for 20 years. He's just being a cock/lazy.

The only reason I haven't just applied is that they will then write to him asking if he's sold it, giving him a month to reply , he won't bother.. So it'll be six weeks before I see a V5 going down that route.

Pain in the arse.

Sold this morning to the first bloke who came to look at it, Hourly nagging got the V5 this morning and the car was away by lunchtime

£1100.

Sweet!

Posted

Tell your mrs you got 600 for it and put the rest in the Cortina fund.

Posted

What was wrong with it? You could of easily got more than that for it, No? Seems an absolute bargain mate.

Posted

Nothing wrong with it! was a really tidy car. But I wanted a quick sale and I made at 500 quid profit out of it so decided not to be greedy.

I reckon if I'd been prepared to wait there was maybe 13 -1400 quid in it, but meh.

Posted

Fair enough CT, I thought these were £2.5k+ cars but maybe my valuation is out of date. I know a guy that had a red one until last year and he really talked it up.

Seems so cheap for a fast stylish Jap machine that'll probably never breakdown. Nice colour and not messed about with example, I defo would of.

ha! after you had all those issues with the back plates I did check mine. They were like new thankfully.

I parkers price guide checked it and it said £2070 for a private sale, but London prices are a tad higher than up here. The general consensus from looking at sold prices on ebay was I would get 13-1400 ish had I been prepared to wait a while.

But, I made a tidy profit , a good old motor got saved from the weighbridge and a nice guy got a bargain. Everybody wins.

Pillock called it absolutely spot on on the second page of this thread, it was a 49 year old guy that bought it, having just split from his wife.

Midlife crisis purchase. Good luck to him, seemed a nice guy.
