Could do with working out why the ABS sometimes triggers at walking pace, but the light stays off, and it's never showed up on the MOT, so I'm inclined not to bother.

My 850 used to do the same, it's entirely normal. Aparently the ABS system does a self check once it reaches around 3/4mph, which normally you wouldn't notice, however it is easy to catch the system out, for example if I was moving around a car park, and suddenly had to stop or happened to be crawling along at just the right speed for the test to happen the ABS pump would go crazy. However a quick dab of the brakes seemed to cancel the test and it wouldn't happen again.

Other than the drop links the only preparation I did was to take the air filter out, as I always do

What's the thinking behind removing the air filter? Something to do with emissions?

This was from speed though! Self tests I understand, and both the ex-CMS T5 850 and my old V70 could be caught out like you say. I've experienced it many times at work too, it's possible to hook up to a trailer, roll forward 10' and catch it out the same.

The fault in question happened when coming to a halt from speed. It made stopping at the lines at the foot of various sliproads a bit hit-and-miss! Never did get to the bottom of it, and apparently nobody else on fora etc., had ever experienced it either. May have been an iffy speed sensor.

Congrats on the ticket Richard.

Could be the reluctor rings (if it has them) moving or slipping. Those symptoms are common on Saab 9-5.

That was eliminated too, it was a really weird fault. Academic anyhow as it was never an MOT issue, and it's over the bridge now.

I used to have a Sierra that did that, it had a bit of trapped air in the ABS module.

That looks exactly the same from the front as the one in my 1999 V70.  Mine isn't the premium system but what it most needs is a direct mp3 input.  Do you know if it's possible to use the CD changer wires?

One of the best looking automotive stereos of all time, spoiled only by the godawful font "Premium Sound System" is rendered in. The only way it could look worse is if they used Comic Sans.

I think we can all relate to two-minute jobs that take several hours, I had the same thing last week when changing the rear discs and pads on my wife's car.

That's the best part!

The early ones before the square badges? They're horrible! First time I saw one I thought it was a giffer addition.

It is exactly the same, just blacker. Not really worth the effort but it would bother me.

I believe you can buy various boxes to plug into the changer socket to give you Bluetooth and other inputs for around £50. I think Yatour and Grom are the names to look for. I don't think there's an easy DIY way to do it.

I hadn't heard of that method - thank you.  Do you know if it's an HU version like this?  The model year looks correct but the button on the front is wrong.  Can you remember if there's that kind of round connector on the back?

EDIT

It seems it's an SC, like this one. And I've just seen SC is written on the front, I am such a twat

I have done the SC-805 aux input/tape hack, it's a few years ago now but message me if I can help. I found it worked perfectly well. Tried it more recently with an SC-900 (The fancy dolby one with the external amp) but it wouldn't keep a blank 'decoy' tape in the deck to activate the aux input.

I didn't bother with any resistors - some guides from memory do mention these, but I had no problems.

These days I just lob a modern single DIN do-it-all head unit in.

Seems to be behaving very well this motor, all things considered. I like how you are keeping all the little jobs at bay too rather than just living with them as they mount up, one after the other!

Marianne did a double take on Saturday when we turned the car around and saw Robin's car further down the road!

Chuck tells me this one is blue and mine is green. I think they are both green. I have more than once tried to take the wrong car.

They look more blue when they're driving towards you.

And people's perceptions of colour aren't 100% the same either. I've had a few arguments with Kay over what colour a few of our cars have been (particularly the 850 which was green on its V5, but I'd have sworn was more blueish), but I usually give in...!

No, this is green.

HTH.

That's JRG but it's not very clear as someone dumped an ovlov in the way...

I remember a few years ago when I had problems with pattern radiator fan sensors leaking and by the time I bought a genuine item I had spent more on coolant than on the parts themselves.

I've got spare ally spouts in my collection of spares, if you or REB ever need one: they feel nice and solid when you've got them in your hand, but they do feel fragile when working with them, most 5 pot tinkerers seem to feel the same, and a few have tales of woe. I replaced the one on the T5 because the block side flange looked a bit warped once I'd got it off (it had stuck fast), but the V70's one was ok. Had a replacement stat from ECP in the V70 which fitted, but the ring and gasket were wrong, so in view of the fact that I'd an hour to get it done, get my tea and get to work, I Hermeshited it on, and it stayed that way for years, just fine.
