Well there is good news and bad news.

Good.

Rac man turned up & fixed oil leak, was sump plug loose,so now car is a runner

Bad

Cant get them to recover it now so i have to figure out how to get an mot less car from chester to upminster essex, about 240 miles.

That's what I reckon. I'd drive it there and get the train back Dave but I'm just never going to get the time in the next couple of week sorry..

Just book it in for an MOT in Upminster.

What he said... innit.

How far is it Dave? Getting someone to transport it isn't that expensive. You might even get a good deal if one the transporters is after some pre chirstmas pocket money. Usually gumtree's a good place to look for them.

What's the min distance before another 'breakdown' can occur? Mine used to be a mile and I'd get them recovered home with the knowledge that if it couldn't be fixed then at least I could roll at least a mile away for further assistance.

I've also pushed a car a mile on the flat before although the circumstances were extreme as there was some MOD and Police issues if I didn't do so. In the heat of the moment I did have a little Brian Harvey mishap and run over my own foot though the G plate metro lived to fight another day.

Try Shipley, Dave. As I mentioned earlier you can often get really good quotes from there and it won't cost to find out!

WHS ^

I got my 7 series shipped from ely to blackburn for £137

Dugong delivery services?

Posted

Have looked on gumtree for delivery services either local to you or local to the car? If you go through shitley you've got their fee's and all the bollocks to deal with.

Posted

It will be if someone wants a backload to get home. That's where Shipley really seems to come into it's own, if you strike lucky someone will just want their fuel and a drink for themselves out of the job. Failing that can someone A-frame it for you?

nice easy fix but how did you miss that cavpugette and station? or more worryingly has the rac man missed something more serious.

will the rac come out to the car a second time for the same problem I didn't think they would but that could be an urban myth

Station and I wouldn't have seen it as we didn't fire the car up. The RAC fella put some oil in, fired it up declared it fine (mechanically) then found the leaking sump plug. He was adamant it would make it home no bother, just mentioning it would need a 'proper' sump washer rather than the temp one he'd fitted.

Hang on, so what your saying is that it didn't need a new sump after all, It just needed a new plug?.

Posted

Dave and/or Billy, it might be worth posting this on the Facebook buy/sell car pages. I did this and got the other 147 moved pretty cheaply. It's worth a go, and it's free!

Yep. Told my lad and he was all a bit 'meh' and YOLO about it. He's back on the road now in everyone's* favourite* car, so he's not lost any sleep. The youth of today, and all that.

In that case this car was an absolute steal, I wouldn't even start quipping over the costs of going to collect it.

Dave you are missing a trick here!

You bought to fix and sell on right?

So RAC man has fixed it.........so you just need to sell and collect the profit.

Get it on ebay/gumtree/readerswives for megabucks and just give pinter Cav's number when they want a look.

He shows then round it and deals with the mongs.

Then smiles and hand over the big wad once sold.

Oh yeah........then you pay Cav for the car.

I'm sure Cav will be up for this........

I aint quibbling over costs,i just cant pay out more than i have.... :-)

Hopefully i shall be traveling by train to collect it in next few days.

Just hope drain plug doesn't fall out on way back.

If it does fall out Dave you can call the RAC again and get them to give you a lift home, which saves fuel.
