Classic Motor Show, NEC, this weekend

Trig:- Impressed with your £10's worth, but not hyperventilating as I've already got that lot!

I used to never miss that show when I was at Cov Uni, the brochure stalls took quite a lot of my time. Of course, that was prior to eBay access on portable telephones, so nowadays I recieve consignments of awful old cack on a weekly basis without recourse to the NEC...

My phone's brain farted and my PC has shat its BIOS.

I had some photos (sorry, PHOTO'S LOL) that might have been of interest but I can't get any of my stuff to co-operate. The Pop with the quilted leather and bespoke interior was utterly wonderful, though.

I liked the slightly down-at-heel A310 VE on the Alpine stand as well.

Finally got some camera \ computer PC co-operation (LOL CATS THEY JUST WORK NOT SNOW JIZZARD AFRICAN MANE) so I can show you my extra value tat haul from Friday's show:

T0kfmP3.jpg

The red binder at the top is a collection of Swallow Doretti road tests. I had to explain to my colleagues at work that it was a TR2 based sports car and not the furtive lamentations of a whore. Nevertheless, it cost me a fiver and the lady on the stand thanked me for my interest. I love Dorettis and it was great to so many of the survivors on display. I think my favourite was the bedraggled rally car.

The Volvo brochures came from the £1 brochure man so beloved of our crane-driving Acclaim pilot. I now have every 440 \ 460 brochure produced in English, in chronological order. I like pancakes on a Tuesday.

The Otto Mobile 305 was a flat-out bargain from one of the model stands. It was priced at £35 to clear along with a ZX 16v, a 2CV Sahara and a 9 Turbo. I was a bit underwhelmed by their BX 4TC, but this has restored my faith in them somewhat. I can even overlook the lack of sidewall markings on the tyres and the very approximately detailed floor pan because of the effort made elsewhere:

1MmVGFL.jpg

That's a manufacturer sticker used on certain Peugeots- 'The manufacturer gets its claws' - presumably to celebrate PSA's comeback in the mid eighties with the success of the 205. I need to get some GTX alloys for my real-life 305 estate. .

I really enjoyed the autojumble. Last year I got that daft Starter 806 Touring Car, and now I have a second Otto to add to my small collection of resin miniatures.

No-one had a 1:18 GS Birotor, though - I'm starting to think I'll never get my hands on one.

Back from a great day out, Saw lots, but definitely missed lots too. Mega busy show with some GR8 cars. Some really obscure gems. Took lots of photos, and I've got a good mind to put them all up here, but maybe tomorrow, I'm knackered.

Didn't spot any shiters, but couldn't find a BX Leader on the stand, which didn't help.

That model mans models were most excellent, the 305 you bought was stunning as well as the R5 GTT models and the BMW M5 one's, actually all of his larger stuff was special, He was selling up his stock as he was ceasing from trading he told me.

Think I paid something like £65 for mine but don't care, it's a wonderful model of one of my favourite ever cars.

First visit for me and thanks to those who have posted pics - looks like most of mine as well.

I spent the whole of Sat & Sun wandering around the show.

I saw and spoke to the owner of the Yugo convertible who has posted on here; the Renaults were good on top but the white 12 that "won" at Ace was awfully dirty underneath :?

I bought an Otto E30 for £5 less than I paid for the real car I drove to the NEC   .

I loved the autojumbler bit - spent most of Sunday aft wandering round there. :-D

I liked the Pricess wedgie that was the Wolsley prototype. Also the Skoda stand - except for the blue modified thing.

Deffo going again next year 8)

I never really bothered with this. I suppose I sort of assumed it wouldn't/couldn't be worth the cost of getting there and the admission fee.

Having seen all the pictures, it seems I was totally and utterly wrong, it looks ace and I'm already planning to go next time.

Thanks for posting the pictures, gents, so that idiots like me who didn't go can at least look at those.

There's me thinking I'd beat the traffic chaos by going on Friday after the morning rush hour.  Did I bollox, took 2 hours to travel 40 miles.  But was worth it as always.  Met Mr and Mrs Trigger in the Ford section which was apt seeing as he's an Essex boy.

The French clubs in particular put on good displays, shame I've got no money otherwise I'd fancy another Renault (5 or early Clio preferably).  And after a long day the 416 refused to start, took four long cranks before eventually firing up.  Drove it home on vapours as I didn't want to risk stopping for petrol and it not starting at all!

I took quite literally an actual billion photos. Here's the stuff that got me rubbing my trousers in excitement:

One thing I absolutely hate is cars appearing on stands year after year. That blue Skoda Estelle abomination seems to be there almost every year. I remember overtaking it on my way home in 2007 (I think). In my 2CV. Citroen Car Club had the same white concours DS that always seems to be on the stand, and the CX estate they had last year (which is proper delicious I must admit).

Wonder if there's any scope for an Autoshite stand? May need a rebranding exercise but if they let the Audi lot in with their utterly modern, modified dreadful stuff, then surely we stand a chance with some actual old chod?

Had a great day on Sunday. I was a little overwhelmed to be honest there was so much to see, everything from the Ferrari Enzo to the Maestro Clubman D, all brilliant and well presented. Highlights were, in no particular order:

911 club stand

Rover 800 stand

Fiesta mk1 Super Sports

Nova 1.3 Sport / Lotus Carlton / Cavaliers

That huge Citroen CX Turbo

Nissan 300ZX

Everything on the Maguires stand

Talbot Sunbeams

VW Camper (valued at £35k... I would have guessed closer to £50k...)

Missed loads, could have spent another couple of hours there easily.

Well that was fantastic.

Despite being a very hard working four days I really enjoyed that. Didn't get home til 1am this morning which was a bit of a bugger but had a brilliant show. Nice to see Dugong again and meet Lord Sterling, Stuno and AlexG/TheBeard.

Found the man with the cheap Ottos and a deal was had. Already sold one at profit. Ca$hback.

I know people say it is expensive for the public to get in but it really is a superb show and there is a huge amount to see so on that basis its worth it. Anyway, its a whole lot more expensive (like take a big gulp before you commit and take some brave pills) as a trader but even then its still worth it.

Bloody ace. Already looking forward to 2014.

To everyone who has posted pics - thanks! I saw very little of of the show so most of the pictures are new to me!

I got the Orion rear lights but the fronts have been bugging me, I thought Rover SD1 but not quite...

Are they Volvo 480?

Those lights do look like they are off a Volvo 480ES. Surreal modifications

Ta.

To my eye the TR7 is an exceedingly elegant motor car which has stood the test of time admirably. Seeing this car made me weep a little bit, and not from my hogs eye.

It's a Grinnall conversion, isn't it? They built V8 TR 7s and went on to build that mad Scorpion trike thing, one of the very few niche \ kit cars I'd own.

Some excellent stuff and plenty of variety on display there. I'm sure I've seen that Grinnall TR7 before and it puts me in mind of an early.90s TVR or similar. Am I alone in thinking the Volvo lights actually look quite good on it?

Nice to see my dear old Trevi made an appearance.

Fresh paint has done it wonders
