Honda Aerodeck 4 SAIL

No, it's not one of those, sorry.  It's the later, sensibler one.

It came up locally at a price I couldn't refuse, so I didn't refuse it.  I didn't really have any need for it, but that's never stopped me in the past.  At the moment, though, I do have need for both space and moneyz, so it's got to be moved on.

I bought it off an old couple who'd had it for eight years or so.  It's done plenty of miles (197K), but being an early '90s Honda it wears its mileage well and drives nicely.

The bodywork isn't too bad for its age.  There's a couple of dents - one in the tailgate and a small one on the NSF wing; there's a small patch of grot just under the driver's door mirror and the usual slightly scabby rear arches (offside has been welded in the past); and one of the headlight washers is missing.  The paintwork isn't bad - it has the odd scuffs and a bit of Milford Cubicle on the front bumper, but otherwise it's quite presentable.  It has a big f*ck off towbar on the back, with both ball and pin capability - complete overkill for the garden trailer that it used to tow, but there you go.  It also has a full set of original Honda trimz.  Tyres are budget jobs but have plenty of tread.

The interior is in pretty good nick really.  It has nice squashy velour seats, and a clever combination boot cover / dog guard in the back.  There's a few neat touches actually, including the holes in the back of the rear seat bases to slot the headrests into when the seat is folded down.

It has electric windows all round, electric sunroof, central locking and cruise control, all of which work.  There is currently no wireless fitted.  I have no idea if the aircon works - it's hard to tell one way or the other at this time of year - but on my past experience with old Hondas I wouldn't be surprised if it did.  The only electrical fault I've found is the ABS light occasionally comes on whilst driving - although whether this is due to the fact that it was standing for a couple of months before I bought it and the discs had gone a bit rusty I don't know.  The light goes out as it should when the engine is started, and if it does come back on it doesn't do so for several minutes, so won't be an MoT issue.

It has an engine.

It's the 2-litre 16-valve SOHC engine, the same as in the W-reg Accord I had, but without the OMG VTEC YO.  It starts first go and sounds healthy, doesn't get hot or smoke, and actually pulls pretty well, although like most Japanese engines it likes to be revved to give its best.  The gearbox (5-speed manual) is nice and slick, and the clutch appears to be good.  Overall it's quite a pleasant car to drive, and certainly more appealing to a keen driver than the Carina E I'm currently using as a daily.

It's tested until 22nd May 2014, and taxed until the end of the year.  It would be nice to see £250 for it.

Aye, that's a very nice car for £250, the interior looks especially good.  In other circumstances I'd be all over this but alas not an option right now so good luck, it shouldn't be hard to shift!

I had a Rover 623, very similar to this and my god what a car. If this is 52% of that car then it is pure win.

Awesome Car, should find a new home quite quickly.

Still makes me laugh as its the car that caused my Dad to get his one and only speeding ticket. Went from a manual Cavalier to an Auto version of one of these.  My Dad is no speed demon, but got pulled on the Motor way doing 87. He'd only had the car a couple of days and was driving the Honda at same "noise level" as his Cavalier.

He had used to tell me off for driving to fast as a teenager, but that soon stopped

Cheers

These are great, nice cars, I always wanted one, but alas have no space. Good luck with the sale.

Thats lovely and mega rare, spesh with the manual box. Good job i am a bit hungover right now, hopefully Dave will step in and sort this before it becomes a problem in the bo11ox household.

I cant do anything until bloke collects and pays for my estima, trying to say that the collect within 7 days is from when he paid deposit now.

Well i got news for him,if it aint picked up by Wednesday which is 7 days from sale he will be kissing his deposit goodby and will be re-listed.

Yeah, but the bargain price should offset that, Dave.

That's a fab car for pocket money, Wuvvum, it really won't be with you long at that sort of coin.

Posted

Aye, what Billy said.

This'll go on a classic policy now, so won't be too bad with the right insurance company.

Posted

Wuvvem, where in norfolk are you ?

Joe,any idea who would be good for classic insurance

Posted

All the classic insurance companies seem to be getting wise to this now, and won't cover you unless you have access to another, main car insured on normal insurance. Check your policy documents, Lancaster made this change last year without telling me.

Posted

Aye, PJ as suggested, I think I'm with Footman-James now, I've also used Lancaster cheaply, but see above. However, I think you'll be alright if you're not regularly joining the rat-race and commuting with it. That seems to worry them.

Great cars these, although a little pricey on insurance.

I had an auto. Never let me down.

My old one.

Dave, I'm about 15 miles NE of Norwich, but I work in Norwich so could meet you there if easier.  I should think the car will still be here come the end of the week.

Peter james now only cover cars over 30 years old

Really?  That's gonna screw me over come renewal time as a classic policy is all I have for my stuff (I used the train for commuting).  They let me put a 1991 Rover on my policy in September so it's a recent change.

Edit:  Sorry Wuv, forgot to say GLWTS.

Posted

Same here. None of mine are over 30 and I'm with Peter James, renewal due next month. Maybe I'm about to be kicked off their scheme. I tend to swap between them and Footman James every few years anyway to keep the premiums down.

I just put the Visa on my Peter James policy last week and its only 26 year old.

Wuvvem,you have pm..

Can actually get insurance cheaper with normal insurance.

Bit annoyed that they want an extra £60 for my son who is 37 with clean licence & has his own car.

Maybe its his job,he is weighbridge operator for recycling firm.

Wonder if they are classing it as scrap dealer or something.
