Keys in a Bowl - Test Drive Requests

Recommended Posts

Posted

There are three vehicles I would like to test drive, if at all possible.  I wonder if anyone in shiteland could help?  I'm insured to drive other vehicles 3rd party, I'm just after someone who might trust me behind the wheel of their pride and joy/shed so I can get a feel for possible purchases next year.

In the running, in order of desirability, are:

Triumph TR7 hard top

Austin Allegro 1.3 series 3

Reliant Rialto

If a potential test drive could be had, I'm willing to offer the keys to the Princess (probably the HL, once the suspension is sorted) so a test drive can be had in return should that take your fancy.

I've a good idea of what horrible things await me with all three of my prospective purchases but not much idea - beyond the comfort of the Allegro and the fun/peril of the Rialto - of the good stuff.  I do not wish to add other alternatives to the list at this time, I've narrowed it down to these three after a long and arduous process of narrowing my options down to vehicles that fit my own criteria for a run-around that I like.

Well my late series 2 Allegro estate is at your service if you would like to borrow it. A couple of minor electrical gremlins to sort out first...

Did I miss something?  This reads like you have TWO Princesses!  If so, kudos!

I'd love to be able to help you with your quest but I can't, I'm afraid.  Good luck.

This is not at all the kind of party that I thought that it would be.

Every "keys in a bowl" party I've been to I've either ended up with a Laguna, Audi A4 or a M Class Mercedes.

Eddy: yes, yes I do.  I acquired a second Princess for free* that's been off the road since the late 90s and am in the process of getting it back on the road.  I now have the Champagne Beige '80 HL and an Emberglow '81 HLS with PAS!

I'm jealous now.  I had two of these beauties but there was an interval of about three years between them.  And that's more years ago than I care to remember....

If anyone ever really really really wants a drive of a K11 Micra...

I'll get the chaps in the little yellow van round to see you and pop you in one of those nice comfy coats with straps up the back

Actually it might be an interesting comparison to my Cherry......

I won't be putting my keys in the bowl, it's all fellas on this forum.

Eddy, if you are in Morecambe or Preston when Im around with the Micrashed you can have a go. And if you accidentally left the handbrake off and it went  over Warton Crag I wont be upset

@alexg:  entirely missed your post.  Of all the Allegros I could be offered a spin in, yours is probably the one I'd like a go in the most.  Allegro estates are the box deluxe.

Well currently the Allegro is suffering with a collection of characterful quirks including, but not limited too, jammed wipers, inoperable indicators and intermittent tail lights. If we plan this right, perhaps we could utilise the slim window between the rectification of these faults and manifestation of further defects.

If any regulars on here are passing Ipswich and fancies a spin in a Civic 1st gen or a Acclaim I might be tempted to let them, I mean you can't be any worse than my wife behind the wheel!

Want a bet? This is the man who once crashed a Land Rover into a greenhouse you're talking to.

Also, if anyone is passing in shitty pikey land Semi-Rural Hampshire and wants to drive a Citroen Xsara estate or a cut and shut rusty E-Class, I'm your man!

I still want a go in your Civic at some point Trig.  Next time I'm passing your way in something interesting, we'll have to have a test drive session.

Your always welcome Dave when your passing, Now that I've serviced the carb it's driving much better than when you last saw it anyway.

You don't need to try before you buy with the TR7, they're wonderful, and those headlamps rise up, not pop up on a flappy hinge.

Well what more could anyone possibly want? Pop up headlamps are breathtaking.

Hey, if anyone is passing Birmingham and want to try the KV6 Sterling (and maybe a visit to Longbridge) just let me know. Maybe at some meet, we could all try out each others car. I seem to remember that happening at the ! Longbridge gathering some years ago, I remember driving a few cars.

Maybe we should have a national meet one day where people can try out each others cars? Lord knows if its possible but maybe there's a stately hall or something (Tatton Park?) with lots of private roads.

People are more than welcome to have a go of my 306, just bring a fume mask.

I have a several series land rovers, an allegro, a disco, a puch maxi, an A4 and an alfa 147 and would like a shot in one of those scammel explorers.

Personally I always shit bricks when I have to drive somebody else's car. I'm not that badder driver but I know something bizarre would happen that would land me in a hedgerow. If I drove Trigger's Acclaim or Lord Sterling's Sterling I'd feel like Mrs Bucket's friend with the china cups.

However I'd love to go to a See Other Shite meeting.

^^^^ Oh yessssssss!

Could provide a key to an MGF, Volvo Amazon or possibly/maybe/eventually a variomatic Daf 66.

Sitting on the Puch Maxi while its being towed by your Allegro now that would tick a big box for me...
